my argument against gmail is mostly just that my browser's built-in web client isn't compatible with it while it's totally compatible with anything else (it's just convenient accessing it from the sidebar)

one game that i was thinking about regarding this matter was fuga

i wouldn't necessarily count the other little tail bronx games, but i'd say fuga counts as indie despite being from a company that has 200ish members total and primarily does licensed anime games, purely because it was a self-funded trainee project in said company... that said, if it had been another naruto game instead i probably wouldn't have held the same view...

on the other hand, there was also that one case where Kadokawa produced an official Overlord game with supervision from the creator, official voice actors etc, yet that one is... probably still safe to call indie since even counting all of the sound team, localisation team etc it still only comes out to about 40 people, and it only happened because of a lone member of Kadokawa getting the green light for what was explained to be very much a passion project

nah neowiz is actually a gaming giant in korea i think (mostly because they do mobile games but still, they had money to put into it for sure lol)

anything from a studio or dev team of more than like, 50 people should be automatically disqualified unless it's like an unofficial fan project imo

and yeah no major commercial funding, it can be something picked up by a publisher of note but if it's marketed heavily (outside of like, explicitly indie showcases) it probably isn't one any more

I added the second one as a bonus for extra context since it's effectively an extension of the first's scene (and song), mostly just since i knew it was going to get destroyed here so i figured i might as well make the most of it

truthfully i'd have picked the latter's use of it if i could but it's not the actual credits in that one (it's two scenes before the end in the movie)

spent a good 45 hours encoding both (after learning the "voting based on the animation" part was a thing, since it just got in off the song alone in noms...) and it's a bit bittersweet it didn't help lol

first match was really tough, zombieland OPs are always a ridiculous amount of fun (honestly i'd have probably also voted even temptation from the hell here because it's impossible to not burst out laughing at that one), but fight together got me in the feels bad

not a very important note, unravel and kawaki wo ameku are both songs that really frequently get covered still (not a huge surprise since everything from tokyo ghoul does and they both have official uploads with 9-digit viewcounts) and i've gone and checked a bunch of each for comparison in the past, so that was also a neat connection to me

if a poll were to happen and hard no votes have more than any of the other options i'd be happy to concede, till then though i personally want to push for allowing these because i think it's the only chance a lot of it could ever get in any contest (not that any of it's even likely to get in in the first place)

i mean a democratic approach to a big part of the scope of the project doesn't sound too bad to me but idk, i agree we are already pushing it on polls for this part but eh, unlike the others it should at least be possible to put all the viable options on in one go and make it completely clear what people want to go with most here which i feel is important since i think there could be a bit of a split opinion

at least next year's gba contest should be a lot more clear-cut lol

Hm, I'm not sure. The one you've linked seems reasonable but if we start allowing clones there'll be a question of where to draw the line, and we risk running away from Mega Man altogether. How rigidly would something have to adhere to Mega Man to be considered a clone? I'm not firm on fangames so it may be wiser to disallow them entirely to avoid ambiguity, but I do like the idea of giving little known tracks like the above a chance to shine. I'll let others weigh in before I decide on that, as I've said I personally have very little knowledge of the series.

yeah, i put the link there because i personally think that there is grounds to include SOME but a line definitely does need to be drawn and i don't know the best approach myself. there may be people who really want to include stuff from games like megamari or legend of dark witch if this is legal and it just gets more awkward from there

maybe the best way is to just establish where people want it to be drawn, whether it should be strictly at just "has mega man style gameplay" or just "has SOME mega man style gameplay (eg. some of: boss rooms/health system/powerups)" or to the strict stance of "must have mega man-style music" or just "no"

I see your posts in these topics every month and I just want to say you have immaculate taste ^5

it's obviously no secret that i like a lot of things, and so there's always so many games that i wish i could get all of myself day 1, and since i can't telling others about them is kind of a way i effectively compensate lol (especially since i feel like if i don't say it, everyone here will only get something like starfield and most likely never know these are even a thing, so, like, for anyone that cares, i'm glad to get comments like this to know they are appreciated in some way)

putting these posts out also just helps me keep better track of which of the ones i want to prioritise, with so many things across multiple platforms that i'm incredibly inconsistent about what i want to play it on, i honestly do come back to them even in later months myself just so i can vaguely attempt to plan out my game budget slightly better

highly recommend to anyone that isn't familiar with some of those titles to look into them since i think they're all cool and i really have no idea which ones i'm going to be prioritising this time

it's possible it'll end up being none of them at least for now since i still have a ton of the stuff i mentioned from the last few months at very high priority levels

(even from around this past week alone, i'm just reeling from not having enough to get any of ac6/rhapsody (well, i guess i was most likely going to get it on switch anyway but lol)/OU/ghostpia on pc/alice escaped on switch yet

((at the very least it gave me a great excuse to put in a lot of time into my most anticipated free to play title of the year (Aster Tatariqus, a mobile srpg with all the production values to completely rival modern (switch) fire emblem titles) which also just launched, and scope out its soundtrack which is actually fantastic. shamelessly bringing it up here in the unlikely event the global version also launches in september, i'm guessing it's still 2 or 3 months out though))

really don't like the idea of pokemon or smash of these since they would be thoroughly unsatisfying, being heavily biased towards songs from specific entries at present (and in smash's case just being too... i dunno, i don't think a contest of arrangements is very healthy)

mega man would be also a bit... well, i mean, if you don't think about how it'd play out it seems interesting, but if you do you'd basically have to concede it's most likely to just see something like mm2 wily coming out on top over, let's say a handful of mmx songs and then the rest

sonic is all over the place in a pretty good way i think so i guess it gets my pick here
