I remember them. I actually saw those movies.

Rock-a-Doodle was fun when I was a kid. It didn't hold up quite so well when I watched it as an adult, but it was still reasonably enjoyable.

Ferngully could've been better.

Anastasia is the only movie I recall where I disliked the concept, but liked the movie itself. The movie is easily the best of the three.

I never saw The Pagemaster. I kinda think the Nostalgia Critic review steered me away from watching it. But, now that I think about it, I've never really had access to it. It never appeared on a cable channel that I had at the time or on a streaming service that I had access to. It might have been available at some video store, but it's not the kind of film I would have paid to rent. I've really just never crossed paths with the film and never had any reason to lament my not getting to see it.

I do recall wanting to watch the movie for the dragon when I was a kid though.

That brings up another issue.

In some way or another, every story shows its age. Damsel in distress, ethnic comedy sidekick, etc. Raiding tombs isn't exactly looked upon fondly anymore. Even modern Tomb Raider basically holds onto the title as a legacy title and doesn't actually have Lara exploit artifacts from other cultures.

I suppose it would be easy to have Indy as the good explorer trying to stop the people who wish to steal artifacts. That probably means that Brody the museum curator is off the cast list, but I wasn't exactly banking on him to be in a reboot anyway.

I have long felt that they should have treaded Indiana Jones like James Bond. We could have had so many Indy movies since the 80s. Just try different actors. But they shouldn't remake the old movies. Just have Indy in new adventures. But back in the 30s and 40s only please. No more 50s or 60s or 70s (not sure but I think the new one is supposed to be in the 70s)

It is kind of interesting. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 1982 movie about an adventure in 1936. If you subtract 46 years from a hypothetical 2028 reboot, you get a film set in 1982.

It's kind of hard to imagine an adventurer like Indy in that time period, but then I guess some of the cash-ins were set in the contemporary 80s.

Producers are more like Ilsa than Indy when it comes to letting treasure go.

Indy isn't going to be retired indefinitely. That'd be like setting fire to a barrel full of money. At some point, they will likely reboot.

I doubt there will be a direct remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark. At least not until the story falls into public domain. You can't have a movie under modern Disney in which God objectively exists and the Ark of the Covenant is undeniably supernatural. Conversely, even most secular viewers would be disappointed if they remade the movie and revealed that the Ark of the Covenant was "just aliens pranking us, bro!"

I think the series will probably get the Batman Begins treatment with a younger, edgier, and less traditionally masculine Indy. Marian will undoubtedly be the love interest unless they want to go for an interracial romance with an original character. Sallah, if he appears, will likely have a dark complexion and thin features to distance himself from the John Rhys-Davies portrayal. Belloq will likely appear in the first or second movie of the new series. And, of course, they'll have an original mystical object that they can go after instead of something tied to prominent world religions.

Don't misread me. This isn't a "Wah! Disney gone woke!" rant. This is just an honest estimation of what I think will come next for Indy. They'll probably wait 5 to 10 years before rebooting the series. But once Harrison Ford reaches 9, I imagine they'll reboot the franchise with or without his blessing.

The Flash has a much higher chance of being a good movie, but I've seen all four Indiana Jones films in theaters and so I have to see the fifth.
