I mostly agree with your ranking. The other day I tried to figure out who my top 10 characters in the series were and your top 5 from this list was all in that top 10 ranking >.>

Think the one big difference is that you liked Weissman a lot more than I did. For me I really like the scene where he's first introduced (well...introduced as Weissman anyway) but otherwise I found him more middle-of-the-road. I does have some great scenes at the end of SC also but I lean more towards liking those because of Estelle than because of Weissman.

Edit: Actually I'd have Loewe somewhat higher than you but he'd still only come in around 10 or so for me so not sure how big a change that actually is.

Yes he will and I am here for it

Joking aside I do actually like Cassius a lot. It's not so much that he himself is a great character, but the effect he has on the world and the other characters is just very cool to me.

I wasn't super big on Richard but he definitely has fans.

I might have him as one of the more interesting antagonists just because the series is a bit hit-or-miss on that front.

I am willing to compromise to an (All Phase Mix) if it is allowed. (I don't know enough about the games to know if it should be.)

Hopefully this Akiko Shikata success continues to next year when I nominate EXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION/.~omness chs ciel sos infel for the hundredth time.

I don't think anyone is ever going to dethrone Estelle and Renne from my top 2 character spots in the series but I would love to be proven wrong. They are both very cleanly ahead of 3rd place (a non-Sky character) though and that's certainly not due to any fault of the rest of the cast(s).

As for which of them is #1 though I have no idea.

I could have sworn you actually learn that in this game, but I could be misremembering.

Estelle the actual best. I love this last scene.

I like at least Dancing Mad, Sunleth, and Last Specter's Theme better than that entire list.

Guess I can say here that I finished everything in the game now. The postgame stuff was all very good and might even be the highlight of the game.

I am very excited for Kuro no Kiseki now, which is a refreshing change after Cold Steel 3 and 4 ended on a bit of a whimper for me. (In fairness, at least the former of those is probably not a widely shared opinion)

Alisa is great I never got the haters either.

I don't think she makes it through the Cold Steel 1/2-->3/4 transition especially well, but her content in the first 2 games is great.

I'm still working through the postgame (which has some relevant story content), but I generally agree with mac's review. I don't think I quite liked it as much, but it's a very good game. Probably a mid-tier Trails game overall for me--I don't think it ever reaches as high of emotional peaks as the strongest games in the series, but it's very consistent and is the first Trails game in a long time I don't really have anything major to complain about (since...Zero? Hell maybe even Sky FC). There's also a sense of thematic identity to the game which is something I always loved about the earlier games and never really felt present in the Erebonia arc (this might be because some of it just didn't resonate with me as much idk)

I was a downer on the Daydreams at first despite liking the doors from Sky The 3rd a lot, but they have really gotten a lot better further in to the game. They're still worse than the Sky Doors on average, but definitely a good experience either way.

Also from a pure gameplay perspective this is the #1 game in the series so far and it's not especially close.

Something about the themes of Howl's Moving Castle really didn't sit well with me and I can't remember what it was anymore. Definitely my least favorite Ghibli work I've seen though. (I've only seen like 6 or so of their films, to be clear)

It was almost certainly directed at me. I was originally only trying to comment on the scene in 3rd with Ouroboros and then made some weird clarification that said a lot more than I intended, so if that was out of line I apologize.

Continuing the conversation is probably a bad idea either way though.

I think the Northern Jaegers (ie. the ones mentioned in the Salt Pale door) are a bit of a special case among the corps we know things about (as of Reverie), and even then I wouldn't really say they're good guys.

I thought about commenting this but I don't know if I actually agree. It's just that they change from "faceless mob that is completely evil" to actual characters with motivations and personalities that are still usually evil.

It's definitely not just Weissman--no matter how you slice it there are other unambiguously evil characters in the organization besides just him.

I definitely don't think Ouroboros is a heroic group. There's a lot of people who think they're supposed to be an "ends justify the means" sort of villainous organization where their ultimate goal is "good" though, which I think is more what I meant. (Well, the goal of the higher up folks I mean)

Really they aren't a spectacularly unified organization in the first place though which is part of what makes figuring this out tricky.

Come to think of it I might have already commented something similar on the SC playthrough but in any case there it is again.

All this is to say that I think the jury is still out on whether or not the Grandmaster is a villain at all. I know for a while people were predicting the final Kiseki game to be Ouroboros+protagonists teaming up against the Church. This was like 5 games ago though, and I think to begin with a lot of that had to do with the JRPG cliche that churches are always the villains.
