The_Apologist 05/27/23 8:36:22 PM #187 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Neither of those acknowledges the strain of misandry within feminism (or, if the misandrists aren't true Scotswomen, I'll say: within feminism's sphere of cultural influence). [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Yes. But not many are calling out the misandry that already exists among their own ranks. I see a lot of inward reflection and critique regarding 'white feminism' and transphobic feminism within the movement, but I don't see a similar effort to diagnose and condemn misandrist feminism within the movement. |

The_Apologist 05/27/23 7:11:49 PM #183 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] This is often a dogwhistle for blaming men, though. And even if not, it's still a basic misunderstanding of how culture works. Generally speaking, culture isn't dictated from the top down; it emerges from the bottom up. So we should focus our efforts on the common people (but without blaming them, since each individual has negligible cultural agency). [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Can you give me some examples of those organizations publicly denouncing the handlers? |

The_Apologist 05/27/23 6:50:53 PM #181 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] I agree that contemporary feminism is giving increasing consideration to ways in which traditional gender roles oppress men. That's a good thing as far as it goes, but I worry that it can't go very far as long as there's the underlying belief that men created traditional gender roles. That's where I see little or no evidence of progress among today's feminists (although I'm optimistic about the feminism--and masculism--of tomorrow). |

The_Apologist 05/27/23 6:04:21 PM #175 | [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Unfortunately, it still seems to be a basic tenet of mainstream feminism that men are more at fault for patriarchy than women are. And this belief seems to be at the root of a lot of misandrist sentiment among feminists--much to the detriment of the cause of gender equality. This is a huge generalization, though; I acknowledge that there's a lot of diversity within feminist thought. |

The_Apologist 05/27/23 4:50:34 PM #166 | ai123 posted... If things are worse for men, who made them that way? Bad question. One of the biggest mistakes people make when thinking about gender is to assume that gender roles developed under the conscious direction of a ruling class, rather than simply emerging organically from people's collective unwitting decisions. So the answer to your question is: no one in particular, but also kinda everyone. And the tendency to blame the patriarchy on men in particular is one of the fundamental reasons why gender discourse is currently hamstrung. |
