In Japan, an estimated 1.5 million people many of them young men now live in complete isolation. The problem has grown so severe that the Japanese have a term for it: Hikikomori, one who literally withdraws from society. Some 6,000 miles away, the United States is experiencing its own form of hikikomori. During a recent interview with Chris Williamson, a British podcaster based in Austin, Texas, the political economist Nicholas Eberstadt discussed the fact that 7 million men of prime working age are currently without employment and not seeking jobs. Many of these men, said Eberstadt, spend inordinate amounts of time indoors, totally withdrawn from society. They play video games, watch pornography and tend to engage in heavy drug use, according to the author of Men Without Work.

Work carried out by academics at Kyushu University in Japan has found that a low testosterone level is one of the common metabolic signatures of hikikomori in young social recluses which is important to note because testosterone levels among young American men are plummeting and have been for years. The drop now reportedly affects 1 in 4 men in the US. Men lacking testosterone are also at an increased risk of developing noticeably larger breasts, a condition known as gynecomastia. Research carried out last year by scientists at Emory University identified the ways in which testosterone influences the hypothalamus, the part of the brain responsible for the creation of oxytocin the so-called love hormone which also mediates the risk of social withdrawal and rises in tandem with testosterone.

McDonald shut down the implication the staff had been fired for "calling the cops", adding: "Just to be clear, our educators are able to call the police. "We train them to step back, it's about their safety and we take that policy seriously because we've had instancesand we've seen in other retailers instanceswhere employees step in and are hurt or worse killed." That's no exaggeration. In April 26-year-old Home Depot employee Blake Mohs was shot and killed by an alleged shoplifter in Pleasanton, California. Six months previously fellow Home Depot employee, 83-year-old Gary Rasor, died after being shoved to the ground by a shoplifter trying to escape with three pressure washers in Hillsborough, North Carolina on October 18.

I just got my top wisdom teeth removed (had the bottom done years ago but it was a horrible experience, had to have my tooth drilled out and broken apart, didn't want to deal with the tops since they were fine). The dentist was actually a miracle worker. He put local anesthetic on the area, said he was just gonna poke around to see if it was working. Did the right side and then the left side. Then put gause in like 5minites or less. I didn't even realized they were being removed.

The issue was more the length. It was 90 minutes straight of it. So I had to deal with hearing drilling and the constant trying to get teeth out for entire time. When I could have been asleep and be woken up when it was over.

I kinda wish I was put under for my wisdom teeth removal. I didnt have an emergency contact waiting in the lobby so dentist said I couldnt and it sucked having to be awake for it as they removed all four at the same time.

The track's parent company, Churchill Downs Incorporated, said in a statement Friday that the remainder of its Spring Meet would be moved to another Kentucky venue it owns, Ellis Park Racing & Gaming in Henderson. The season ends July 3. On June 11, the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, will wrap up the Triple Crown races for 2023. Racing at Churchill Downs was expected to cease after the weekend's races and then continue at Ellis on June 10, the track said. The track, home of the Kentucky Derby, reported on May 27 that two more horses had died. They were the 11th and 12th horses to die during the spring season. The venue probed track surface conditions but found no red flags. There have also been probes conducted by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority.

"No single factor has been identified as a potential cause and no discernable pattern has been detected to link the fatalities," Churchill Downs Incorporated said in its statement. The parent company said it wanted to suspend racing in order to see if safety measures are working. "Even though the investigations and expert reports have indicated no surface issues, CDI has elected to relocate the meet in order to conduct a top-to-bottom review of all safety and surface protocols," it said.
