I feel like complaining about the rewards of side quests is everything wrong with gaming today.

Doing sidequests because you want rewards is just a skinner box. Xenoblade chronicles was horrendous with this. The rewards were great and the sidequests were complete garbage. It killed the game for me because I felt obligated to do stupid meaningless tasks.

The sidequests in this game I've for the most part really enjoyed because they have expanded the story of the game. Some have been not great but for the most part I've enjoyed the world building

Yeah victim blaming would be blaming the dog. If you have a dog that is skittish you need to be a responsible pet owner about it.

It can both be sad that the dog died, and true that if something happens ever single year without fail on July 4th, it should be accounted for by responsible pet owners.

If you aren't responsible it can still be tragic, but it isn't the neighbors fault when the same exact action took place on that day for the last 50 years.

I guess I've never really understood the concept of adult theaters at all. Are there really enough people comfortable enough to watch porn in a room full of strangers (who are all presumably equally comfortable with it) to make them worthwhile to operate? Regardless I completely agree with your assessment that the entire thing was blown out of proportion but that Reubens should have had the sense not to do something like this while he was still one of the major players in children's entertainment.

They made a lot more sense pre internet

ngl I was waiting for this one to drop ever since I caught up. You could probably fill a quarter of this list (and I'm being generous here) with weird brony stuff. I appreciate the addendum. MLP: FiM was for a while one of my favourite shows though I never finished the series so maybe I am actually a FAKE FAN and it does suck to have a decent piece of media tainted by some very loud bad apples.

Yeah, I think normal fans probably fell off after the first 3 seasons or so. The songs fell off and after a while it was just fine.

Which was probably also part of the problem where the Fandom remaining was the most extreme

Ive kind of stopped following this topic as Im further behind.

But to me this game is what dragon quest XI promised itself to be. I bounced hard off that game because it felt like the plot went nowhere and the side quests were complete fluff nonsense. The explanation I read was that was culturally what gamers who played those sort of games liked which I thought was weird.

This game has echoes of that with the putting together the ship quests but I feel like it actually executed where I can play an hour a day and feel immersed in the world and maybe it doesnt really advance the plot but the characters are interesting enough that Im on board.

It's also worth pointing out that releasing a big-budget anything also comes with a lot of expenses like advertising, and taking theaters away from films you either have out there or will release soon that could be a more efficient use of money for movies.

Going 'well, we put this much into it, we have to finish it' is sunk cost theory in action.

Its also residuals. You agree to pay the writers and actors a cut every time its aired or for however long its available.

if you never release it then you pay nothing

#29: Spamming One Show All Day, Seven Days A Week

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/3/9/AAAG8cAAEotr.jpg
I guess if you love Teen Titans Go... Merry Christmas?

Remember when networks used to play different shows at different times every day? You'd turn on Nickelodeon, and the average day's programming consisted of a couple dozen different shows. Same with Cartoon Network, and the Disney Channel. These days, you're lucky if you see more than half a dozen different shows in a day, as most kids' networks now spam the same show over and over again, sometimes only showing one thing all day. For Cartoon Network, it's usually Teen Titans Go. For the longest time on Nickelodeon, it was Spongebob Squarepants, with the occasional Fairly OddParents or Loud House marathon. Marathon... marathons used to be special. It used to be, people looked forward to seeing their favorite show two hours in a row. If a network was showing the same thing all day, it was an event, accompanied with things like interviews and trivia quizzes. Now, to paraphrase, "it's just Tuesday". And... I get it, to some extent. If a show's killing it in the ratings and showing it over and over again puts butts in seats, then it can be a good business move, at least in the short term, to do just that. But scheduling like this cuts down heavily on programming diversity. Remember the days when you'd change the channel and stumble on your new favorite show? Spamming programs like this doesn't give lesser known shows a chance to shine, and if the show you're showing repeatedly begins to decline in the ratings, it can take down your whole network's numbers, leading to firings or worse. Fortunately, these days networks seem to have taken that lesson to heart, and Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network are both trying out more programming, but modern viewers still have painful memories of when it would seem like months would go by without anything but Spongebob and Teen Titans Go on their screens.

This is.... incredible

And its during christmas break when kids actually might want to watch during the day too?

Even if you wanted to watch Teen Titans go, why would you be playing the same movies multiple times?!

#66: Buffalo Gals

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/0/3/AAAG8cAAEoC7.jpg
They came out, all right.

Cow And Chicken was one of the original Cartoon Cartoons, and was known for its absurdist humor and its love of sexual innuendo (with more butt shots than pretty much any cartoon ever aired up to that date), but Season 2's "Buffalo Gals" was not only completely over the top, but was positively loaded with offensive stereotypes of lesbians, complete with a group of motorcycle riding women who literally break into people's houses to chew on their carpet. I'm not making this up, they REALLY went there... not only that, but one of the Buffalo Gals was actually flirting with Cow... depicted as a seven-year-old child on the show. In the episode, the Buffalo Gals break into Cow and Chicken's house, and Cow is enamored with them, eventually following them to their hidden campground. Eventually, Chicken has to show up and fight them off to rescue Cow once she becomes disillusioned with them (which, being a seven minute cartoon, happens very quickly, with about 30 seconds of that seven minutes just taken up by a performance of the classic "Buffalo Gals" song). I'm not sure what the writers were thinking that kids would get out of this episode, but needless to say, this one courted controversy from its first (and ultimately only) airing. It was a different time, to be sure, but even back in 1998 this was never going to fly, and you can't even defend this one on comedic grounds: the episode wasn't even funny. Cow And Chicken was always surreal and controversial, and sometimes it was at its best when it was at its most bizarre, but this was just offensive, and it blows my mind that somebody signed off on this.

I hated cow and chicken as a kid.

But the moral of this story is dont piss off everyone at once. Cant imagine anyone was ok with their kids watching that
