TodorokiHayato posted...
I went a week without smoking/vaping nicotine, then I ate something spicy and my urges to smoke suddenly came ten folds. For those that used to smoke, how did you quit? I am having the hardest time dealing the urges of wanting to feel "buzzed" rather than craving nicotine. I've tried substituting nicotine for weed, but that was too potent and wasn't nearly weak enough to give me the same buzz that I got from smoking cigarettes.

Dang...I wish I never smoked. Smoking was never cool.

I'm happy to hear that you're ready to quit smoking.
That's probably the hardest step to take.

I'm not sure where you live, but many state governments do have programs available to help you quit smoking, including nicotine patches, lozenges, etc etc.
And, if you have a decent insurance, you may consider asking your healthcare provider for help (and they may prescribe things like bupropion if other options don't work out). I mean, you should talk to your provider regardless, but some options may be more financially viable with good insurance.

But, yeah, try looking up state government sites for help (or just try using a search with google with "state name, quitting smoke, government program", etc etc).

*saw that you were picking up patches.
If you've never used them, be sure to talk with the pharmacist for advise on how to use them properly (like hot shower, nightmare, etc etc).

I don't think this theory is particularly real. Doesn't hold up under scrutiny. A dead patient incurs zero medical cost. There's a lot of people who die between 40-60 from cancer and from a capitalist POV it doesn't make sense to milk someone for like $100-$200k once in their life when you can treat them for all kinds of age related issues later and make much more money long term. They would definitely cure cancer if they could.

The conspiracy probably comes from the comment made regarding hiv/aids treatment vs vaccinw during an investor's meeting.

Essentially, it was argued that a lifelong trt was more profitable vs a single vaccine regimen.

emblem-man posted...
Could this be achieved by giving health care providers more time with patients? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the supply of doctors artificially limited because med schools limit the number of new med schools and the number of medical students.
Seems like we shouldn't do that, and should aim to have an increase in healthcare providers. It would probably also decrease average wages, but it seems like it'd help overall

Ok, two things:

1) Shortage is with all healthcare providers, and it's really the case of greater demand than the availability. While it may be true for doctors that medical schools may be the choke point, other areas are trying to meet the need. It's just that there is a greater need than there are people, regardless of the pay. Money's good, too, but it doesn't seem to be enough when you see people pulling 56hr weeks on a regular basis (and not just for a single profession).

2) I'm pretty sure all heathcare profession learn social issues (well, it's sort of "non class but mandatory presentation/seminar" type of thing that you have throughout school). It's just that no one really tends to keep it on the top of our head. It becomes a background noise, essentially. If nothing else, it's not what's tested on the license exam, and (I hate to say this) people of all levels of providership receive less risk of being brought in front of the board for advising guideline adherent care (which doesn't take financial issue into consideration) as opposed to achievable care (but may not be the optimal advised treatment protocol).

On a somewhat related but totally off the tangent note, a lots of places say "eh, let's send something that we know will work, wait for it to get rejected by the insurance, and go with suboptimal meds that's going to fail. Then we can file for the medication that we actually want because the insurance preferred meds failed."

But, of course, that's for people with some insurance to begin with.
