Musk in 2022 secretly ordered his engineers to turn off Starlinks connectivity along the Crimean coast in order to thwart a Ukrainian attack on Russias naval fleet, according to an excerpt of Walter Isaacsons long-anticipated Elon Musk obtained by CNN. Musk made the decision out of a fear that the attack would lead Russia to retaliate with nuclear weapons, according to Isaacson.

The Ukrainian subs rigged to blow up the Russian ships lost connectivity and washed ashore harmlessly after Musk disconnected their service, Isaacson writes.

Musk agreed to let Ukraine use Starlink soon after Russia invaded in early 2022, and Isaacsons book describes how conflicted he was that his companys technology was being used to launch attacks. How am I in this war? Musk told Isaacson. Starlink was not meant to be involved in wars. It was so people can watch Netflix and chill and get online for school and do good peaceful things, not drone strikes.

...Britains second-biggest city effectively declared itself bankrupt on Tuesday, shutting down all nonessential spending after being issued with equal pay claims totaling up to 760 million ($956 million).

Birmingham City Council, which provides services for more than one million people, filed a Section 114 notice on Tuesday, halting all spending except on essential services.

The deficit arose due to difficulties paying between 650 million (around $816 million) and 760 million (around $954 million) in equal pay claims, the notice report says.

The city now expects to have a deficit of 87 million ($109 million) for the 2023-24 financial year....

Now, on the issue of what Dylan Farrow has alleged about him -- detailed in an HBO doc that Woody labeled as fiction -- he basically brushed it off here in this interview once again ... pointing out it had been thoroughly investigated at the time, and nothing came of it. A 4-year-old in Tennessee died after being shot point-blank in the chest Sunday by a woman who said she was teaching the girl firearm safety, according to authorities.
Breanna Gayle Devall Runions, 25, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of Evangaline Gunter.

According to a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrest warrant obtained by HuffPost, Runions told police that she had taken a 9 mm handgun out of its case, removed the magazine and called Evangaline over to show her firearm safety.

Runions pressed the barrel of the gun against the childs chest and pulled the trigger, police said she told them.

I don't have a problem with the idea of people owning guns for self defense, but I feel like we generally haven't shown that we're responsible enough to have them as a society.
