Bad news and good news.

Bad news: Feels like I pulled a muscle in my back somehow, so trying to move in certain ways hurts. I'm pressing a hot water bottle against it right now. This is the last thing I need right now when I've got a bedridden mom.

The elderly aunt I mentioned has passed away. While I'll miss her, I'm glad she's not rotting away in that nursing home anymore.

Well, turns out the cat is dying of kidney failure, which is a common thing older cats experience. My brother is gonna get some liquid that he has to inject into her three times a week to keep her healthy, but I think we both know it's delaying the inevitable. Worse, because I need to stay home in case my mom needs me, I won't be able to accompany him if and when he sends her off. I would 110% go with him otherwise. We both love her dearly.

I also just found out a more distant and elderly aunt of mine is on her way out. But considering she's spent who knows how many years bored out of her skull lying around in a retirement home, I think it's a mercy. She did have my cousin's family nearby to visit her, but I don't know how often. She deserved better.

My mom, my aunt, our cat, the car accident, the GI bug, the tornado... everything is just piling on all at once. When will it stop?

Woke up nice and early to tornado sirens and a tornado warning. The tornados were small and missed us, but what a shitty time to get hit with them. It's been a streak of high temperatures by February standards, so I had the windows cracked in my mom's old bedroom (where I'm sleeping since she's in the living room hospital bed). And this had to happen when my mom was incapable of going down the basement stairs, though she could get to the downstairs bathroom with some assistance if need be.

This is also after my mom timed her medication times to reduce the need to call me and wake me up at stupid hours, too.

Watching footage of the Tomb Raider Remastered trilogy reminds me of when we visited Microcenter in '98 or '99. It was one of the most magical moments of my life! Imagine being an impressionable child visiting a big computer store during a revolutionary time in the tech industry, seeing all these weird and wonderful games and gadgets. It really got my imagination flowing, wondering what all these things would be like in action.

My brother took the female cat to the vet since she once again woke up thrashing and stumbled when walking. Turns out they're seizures. Don't think there's really anything we can do about them. I just hope they don't rob her of a peaceful passing. Every pet deserves a gentle end. She doesn't seem likely to die anytime soon, but she is very old for a cat.

I recommend the webcomic Nerd & Jock. It starts out by making you think Jock is gonna bully Nerd, but flips it on its head. Later, it becomes about their friendship and the antics they get into. There's some nice moments that cement their friendship and how they help each other compensate for their weak areas. While they get girlfriends later on, it doesn't harm the quality of the comic at all.

Oof, glad I don't have any pitchers available (our only one is being used as a flower pot), because the fruit punch our neighbor gave us is sugar-free and uses aspartame instead. That shit always gives me a headache. Like, "I just took a sledgehammer to the skull" kind of headache.

Latest haul from my neighbor (aka my unofficial second grandma): Big bowl of potato/egg salad, lunch meats, a loaf of bread, bag of fruit, box of Hostess Kazbards, some packets of fruit punch mix, and a Danish Kringle (imagine a ring-shaped Danish, but 2/3 the circumference of a car tire).

My brother's got a 3rd Rock From The Sun DVD playing. These "alien" characters don't act too different from the average 90s sitcom character.

Mom's back home again. She did indeed have blood clots, so she's got medication that will eventually get her leg back to normal.

She's really looking more haggard. Me and my brother treating her well made her look 20 years younger, but the past year has resulted in her looking as old as she actually is. Hate seeing her like this, but there's nothing we can do but tough it out until the end.

Not helping is that I'm wondering what my hospital bill is gonna be. I have insurance, but it's not the best. Will it be a couple hundred? A couple thousand? I have no idea. Taking an ambulance was likely a very bad idea, but there just HAD to be a concert my brother wanted to attend that night, and that bout of queasiness (anxiety?) just HAD to happen shortly after he left. Bad timing has been a plague upon my life.

Aaaand now my mom's left leg is swelling up, which could be a blood clot, so she's going back to the hospital right after I left.

I hate how right I was about predicting the difficulty of the next two months.

My brother told me a coworker of his went through the same thing as me, down to having pain in the same area. Guess it's just something that's going around. Something that tricks naive chumps like me into thinking it's serious.

I'm back home. The diagnosis was that I have a viral GI bug, which basically causes irritation and swelling of your intestines. This little fucker just HAD to settle down near my appendix and make me think I had something else.

I probably got it from eating out. A distant family member sent us a Doordash card, so me and my brother went out to various places, and one of them probably gave me the infection. Probably the Japanese place that served these damn good rice and meat dishes.

My dad is recommending that I put castor oil and a hot pad on the affected area, which I'll do tomorrow.

No results yet. So tired, but I unfortunately can't sleep in anything that's not a bed. Every time I drift off, I jerk awake. I fucking hate it. Maybe if this thing had a pillow.

At least Spiderman: Far From Home is on TV. Heard nothing but good things about it.

So... I'm in the hospital. And not as a visitor this time.

I've had this pain in my lower right belly for a couple weeks, and signs point to appendicitis. I got real queasy a couple hours ago, so into a an ambulance I went. Got a CAT scan done, so I'm waiting for the results.

Of all the lousy timing. I'm already tired and miserable from this situation with my mom, and I've gotta deal with this shit.

The hospital bed arrived. Holy shit, was it a pain to get this thing inside. I couldn't get a grip on the box, so we had to take it out and hold it by some more handle-like parts. This thing was damn heavy; like 200 pounds.

Boy, Suicide Squad sounds like it's a complete mess. You know how the Arkham games were subtle and atmospheric? SS is the complete opposite, with a comically cluttered HUD and loads of hyperactive colors and effects flashing on the screen. And you know that four-letter word that starts with a W that CE doesn't like very much? It's that. The male antagonists are all majorly disrespected in their death scenes and biography entries, while the opposite is true for the female antagonist. Harley grabbing Deadshot's ass in a scene is treated as a joke, but you know the journalists would flip their shit if the roles were reversed.

In fact, I found out something interesting. There's this company called Sweet Baby Inc. that gets hired to crowbar in as much political correctness as possible, and their grubby stink is all over this. They've also worked on God of War: Ragnarok (which I liked), and Alan Wake II (which has great review scores), so their involvement isn't a guaranteed touch of death if there's a good director to reign them in, but they're still best avoided. This isn't Rocksteady anymore; just a bunch of talentless hacks wearing their skin.

Thankfully, all is not lost. Rocksteady's co-founders and several of their old talent started up a new company called Hundred Star Games, people in general are becoming more aware of the W word and Sweet Baby, and SS is getting awful player numbers on Steam as people return to Arkham Knight in droves.

Had a pretty chaotic morning. My mom ordered a medical inflatable mattress because she was uncomfortable sleeping on the couch anymore, and she was so desperate to get it set up that she made me wake my brother up to help set it up at 6am. Was able to catch up on some sleep afterwards, but I'm still mentally exhausted. The mattress helped for now, but she's thinking of ordering a hospital bed.

Stuff like this is why I wish I could skip straight to the end.

Started playing Evil West after it went on sale a couple months back. It's a beat-em-up in the vein of DMC. It's like a throwback to third-person action games from the early 2010s PS360 era. It's made by the same studio that made the Shadow Warrior reboot trilogy, so there's a healthy balance of fun gameplay and a story that keeps the action moving with occasional moments to breathe. And with a story about a badass cowboy fighting monsters, it's very fertile ground for a good time.

It's pretty well balanced, and I never really felt like my deaths were the game's fault. Well, mostly. The first two levels have some harsh red lighting, and enemies have red/yellow attack indicators, so I took a lot of cheap hits from the enemies blending into the environment. Probably doesn't help that I'm playing on our smaller kitchen TV. Since my mom's settled down in the living room, she's also pretty much completely taken over the TV, and my last two times playing, I only got an hour at most in before she asked to watch. With her weight loss, she doesn't snore anymore, so I never know if she's sleeping or resting her eyes.

Like any game with a big expansive moveset, I have trouble keeping track of all my available options. Just an hour in, I have the gauntlet, revolver, rifle, shotgun, and electric gauntlet. And there's still several more yet.

My mom's been sleeping on the couch since she got back, and the cat has been sleeping on the arm next to her. It's a really sweet sight. For all her indifference, it's like she knows when something is wrong.

Our neighbor has been making us more stuff lately, probably because she knows about my mom. A couple days ago, she gave us a bag of fruits, three packs of deli meat, and a big bowl of potato salad. Tonight, she gave us 2/3 of a tray of carrot cake. Last week, she made us some cookies and egg custard. She thought my mom could have the custard, but even without the antibiotics, she just can't do desserts.

This Twitter user called onebadnoodle_ made some drawings of what they imagine the parents of Ed, Edd & Eddy look like. They really fit the style of the show, and their traits are cartoony enough to be believable.
