ok so fun stat, guffguy's seeding is actually working out pretty well so far since, of the 24 matches to date, Fran is only the 2nd "upset" from a seeding perspective (after Ardyn > Zell).

Of course, "so far" is the key phrase there...

"Death Express" and "Devil Thomas" are both sick names though, damn, robbed by the character limit.

I'm not sure if that's a case of Yuna underperforming or Sazh overperforming.

replaying XIII definitely rekindled my liking him!! but it may be Sazh overperformance, I'll be voting Yuna over Gilgamesh at least but I'm sure there's Yuna voters who'll go Meshy. We'll see the over/under performance next round...

theres some people out there that hate XIII-2 over either bookends in the trilogy (it's me and Roba, we're some people). Plus like he said, Lightning's his fav so it makes sense there's a dropoff in the Lightning-less game. For me it's just... such a bleh game and (XIII trilogy spoilers) just totally feels useless knowing how it ends too. Noel and Serah aren't really great characters either and don't recall being as much a fan of the battle system, particularly the 3rd-member-monster system? Just didn't have the same magic as the other two games (personally I loved Lightning Returns the most and I know that puts me in a minority position...)

I'm doing a XIII trilogy replay right now and I'm just spending copious hours at my favourite part in XIII and I'm not really looking forward to going through XIII-2 again tbh... will probably try to speedrun it as much as I can

to be fair, you literally only need to do well in 1 contest to make the bracket, but yeah she had a 16th and a 29th in contests XV and XVI... don't know who was behind those runs besides FFDragon, and so long ago that who even knows if the others are still around <_<

Hear that FFD, Aki Ross's last proper run in SMFFFC was 9 years ago - picturing you instantly decaying like in The Last Crusade right now, lol

I don't think my standards for an OP to grip me are that high, maybe they are higher nowadays following voltch's contest, but come on. No one could even convince me the new Goblin Slayer OP in any way competes w/ the original's. So that's a really big 0 for 3 with SxF and Kenshin, geez...

At least the return episode was great, nice to re-enter that world esp with big emphasis on the side and background characters, and I'm also glad they kept the same musical motifs for the area themes, now whether they maintain the same battle songs, I guess we'll need to see...

Spy x Family even better, repeatedly lol'd the last few minutes there. Really feels like it never left, off to a great start!!

Congratulations, I can now no longer tell you to "play ff7 ffs", lol

As noted above the compilation took the mystery out of the "did all humanity die in the ending or not", though I would still say there's two ending mysteries there (1) Red allegedly being the last of his kind but clearly not per that FMV (easy enough to hand wave this away/Before Crisis intro'd a female of his species apparently but nowhere else in compilation) (2) iirc he's 48 which is 16 in human years at the time of the game per Bugenhagen. So 548 years old is what, about 183 in human years? Seems abnormally long tbh...

I forgot about the Aeris image in the church, the flood of Aeris resurrection rumors and speculation on the internet in the late 90s that helped drive, lol...

Even after all these years, watching the ending when Tifa says "what's that?" and the Lifestream starts to poke out of the ground and the music flourishes, ah... it still gets me.

I like the fact the materia Seph throws at you in the Shinra basement was Destruct, which you can use to Debarrier the Wall he starts every Safer fight off by casting

There is more Yuffie in Dirge and Crisis Core so more incentive to go check those out post-Advent Children! (Still recommend playing CC)

....there's only one other thing I want to speculate on but I couldn't until you've played Remake so I will hope for a Steam sale sometime soon!

I guess we'll soon be in "play ff7r ffs" territory, lol

Edit: forgot one thing

Robazoid posted...
Yuffie was smacking this thing for 9999 damage sometimes!

The power of Conformer, my fav ultimate weapon and the best imo. Since it's powered by enemy base HP whereas the others aren't as guaranteed (hp, mp, limit gauge) or can take a long while to power up (Vincent and Barret's) while hers is always good to go, and she has the long range advantage and it's the easiest (and earliest?) to get. It's really why Yuffie was a mainstay of my low-level runs over the years... plus her 1-2 limit being a healing one

Then they spent the night together (in a chaste way)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/9/5/AAC56kAAE59r.jpg

ok here's the funny bit about Vincent recruitment now. He always says "Wait! If I go with you will I meet Hojo?" and the response from Cloud is "Dunno. But we're after him and Sephiroth. So, I guess sooner or later..." (Tifa and Cid have comparable responses if you get him when they're party leaders)

But if you recruit Vincent on Disc 3 the dialogue tree is literally this, per the script (which I also noticed once time I waited until then to get Vincent):

Vincent: Wait! If I go with you will I meet Hojo?
Cloud: Yeah, probably...

lol Cloud, what a dick.

note the Turks fight in MIdgar gives you that option because you did the Wutai stolen materia quest, if you hadn't it would've been mandatory fight against all three of them.

if you go the wrong way when you're in the tunnels leading up to the Proud Clod (...really can't give the FF7 translator too much grief but in that case, yeah...) you can revisit the Shinra building and open up those treasure chests you couldn't back on Disc 1. Cait Sith's ultimate weapon is also in a locker there, and iirc it won't let you revisit the top floors since Diamond Weapon blew them out. But you can revisit a floor that still has the "trail of blood" from Jenova being dragged, like they never cleaned it up despite the weeks that passed, lol...

alright Leon/GMUN/whomever, I need expert Star Wars fan opinions here (please @ me in your response if so since I won't be checking this topic otherwise)

For background: I never watched Rebels or Clone Wars and I don't care about Ahsoka or Sabine or any of that so I haven't watched this series (also didn't watch Andor, basically I've just done Mandalorian and the Mando eps of Boba Fett)

Buuut I do love Ray Stevenson from past roles he's been in AND I love Thrawn by way of the Thrawn compilation clips from Rebels I've watched on youtube so he's what I was interested in seeing the most

so in your opinion should I just:

-Skip Ahsoka like I've basically done already
-Watch all of Ahsoka because it's worth it for Thrawn & Ray
-Watch only some Ahsoka episodes (if so gimme specific episode #s plz!)

Thanks!

need a World Government to form and make it illegal for PS2 games to not be available to play on any other systems (....glances over at my delayed replay Xenosaga trilogy while I work through XIII trilogy replay don't start Leon!!)

Roba: yeah Dirge I was going to recommend watching just a youtube cutscene compilation, you won't miss anything from not actually playing the game. Crisis Core is available on switch & steam at least if you wanted to give that a go, otherwise maybe the "youtube movie" route with that too, though I'd still recommend playing it.

Regarding Steam releases, it was revealed in a Rebirth trailer footnote that the exclusivity window for the game is only 3 months vs. the 12 months Remake had. That being said, it still took well beyond that window (one extra year I think?) before it got onto Steam or whatever but ideally they saw like, FFXVI's numbers vs. Baldur's Gate 3 or whatever and they get a move-on getting it onto Steam...!

There's a difference between "the game told me who that is" and "oh I know who that is"

Those things hit differently

literally (Roba don't click this again, massive Remake spoiler)

When Remake came out I had a habit of watching people's playthroughs for certain parts of the game and the entire Zack sequence is friggin massive. If you played the game you know who that is and the enormity of his apparently surviving.

People who never played the original game were just confused on what was going on that whole time and couldn't appreciate what the game was showing us there and setting up.

Between that and the fact the story revolves around plot ghosts trying to force the original game's plot, the glimpses of the future the game shows you, I just couldn't imagine playing remake without the original... but that's just me!

Fiop: yeah there is no prompt for that, but makes sense considering what WazzupGenius00 said above which I also didn't know, very interesting.

I also resurfaced a "first time playing" memory based on your post, and Roba's earlier post about being in the Whirlwind Maze area and "If I didn't know better, I would've thought I was heading towards the final boss". Because of my trials and tribulations playing the buggy PC game, I never recruited Yuffie or Vincent, and I got to Disc 3 and there was that "nearing end of game" feeling of course, and in my mind I'm like "oh this is another fake-out like before, I haven't even gotten those 2 characters who were included in that little booklet that came with the game!"

....lol :(

Also another funny story about recruiting Vincent on Disc 3 but will save that/try to remember it for later.
