Expanding the courts is the way to go period. It puts the judicial more in line with the average citizen.

These clowns are out of touch AND corrupt, and the only way to make change on a reasonable time scale is to stack the court.

"Oh but Republicans will just do that to!"

AND?!?

At least they would actually be accountable to a vote and Republicans already control the court for likely decades to come.

Any progressive "oh I want this" without expanding the courts is fanciful jibberish. It is the only way short of waiting decades.

There isn't any evolution of the characters or setting and thus the possible scenarios they can be involved in are limited. Moreover, it is mostly grounded in reality and thus there isn't as much room to just pull shit out of nowhere (like South Park can).

South Park had a similar problem that they got around by simply having the kids involved less and plots come to them. But if the Simpsons took that approach they wouldn't be the Simpsons anymore.

The answer is that every show can go too long for the narrow scope of their setting and/or characters, and The Simpsons passed that point a long time ago.

Too busy remastering Skyrim to work on fridges.

Kidding aside, they really don't need more projects given how long their releases are taking already. Skyrim released in November of 2011. Like it might be 15+ years after Skyrim before we get another Elder Scrolls game.

Fuck remasters they need to focus on sequels.

People are ridiculously depressed about the state of the country and distracted by pointless shit.

It all ends up in a cycle where things get worse and worse and people just accept less and less.

There might be a breaking point, there might not be. But one things for sure, it is likely to get worse and there is currently nothing that looks like it is going to lead to things being better...

Are people still not understanding that it's controversial to change something people paid money for? They keep mentioning other media getting reprints, but reprints don't change what was already bought.
Some people just love to act like people are overreacting to everything.

It is one thing to make efforts to change an art style's risque elements (that many gravitated to the series for in the first place) it is another to remove shit like announcer packs or alter already released artbooks. They are doing both.

I see this as pretty fucking lame and an awful precedent.

But this conversation and the people I am responding to are arguing about what ought to be not what is.

And yea this trial is unprecedented and who knows? Maybe it goes farther up the courts and has implications about the horrific ruling that you linked.

I quoted you as saying something was criminally negligent. Which it is not by the SCOTUS ruling.

Again, he may be convicted of this charge but it will absolutely be thrown out on appeal. It is completely missing the legal mark here because he does not qualify as a caregiver nor do police have a duty to risk their lives for citizens, and that includes children.

Moreover, you are over simplifying the problems here. There are many scenarios where such laws if they did exist would actually be a detriment. For instance, what if an officer fearing that he will face liability if he does not go in, enters a situation prematurely and is killed or - perhaps even worse - kills those he was trying to protect?

This is why protection exists for police officers and soldiers. It is easy to second guess split decision making in a once in a life-time decision making scenarios, but society does not necessarily benefit by putting more pressure on these people.

Man was fired, he is being shamed, why exactly do you believe it just to go further than that?

Let me add these cases as well since that alone is not sufficient.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia

and

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeShaney_v._Winnebago_County

And whether or not you feel the Supreme Court is wrong is irrelevant to whether something is illegal or not. If they say it isn't, then it isn't. They are the final vote. You can argue about what should be all day, but if you want to call something illegal, and the Supreme Court says otherwise, then you are just blowing smoke.

Holding police accountable for their failure and criminal negligence seems like a pretty good way to get them to take their training and their responsibilities seriously.
Except, by US Law, police are not required to risk their lives to protect anyone.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town_of_Castle_Rock_v._Gonzales

So your claims of criminal negligence are incorrect.

Again this man should be fired, he should be shamed, but under US Law he did not commit a crime here.

To be clear he is being tried for child neglect not an accessory to murder or anything like that.

I think even if there is a conviction this is being overturned on appeal. A cop is not a "caregiver" for children at school. Moreover, US law dictates that cops do not have to risk their lives for others.

This guy should be fired. He should be shamed. But a crime? Not in the way US law is currently written.

The reality is that he was probably an extremely arrogant and delusional person that made a series of decisions that cost his own, and more damning, others lives.

He basically did the equivalent of not buying bullet proof glass while driving through a war zone. It wasn't a question of if someone would be killed, it was when.

You understand why there is a bull in Pitbull right?

They were bred to pick fights with bulls. Bulls can weigh 2000 lbs to a Lion's 420 lbs.

Pitbulls are way too mixed to make any definitive statement on what they could or would do, but their ancestors were literally bred to pick fights with animals many times their size. They could and would pick a fight with a lion and they would die fighting it. The Lion would likely take injuries far beyond what it would deem acceptable in the fight as well and might even die from those injuries.

All this entire episode did was remove a lightning rod for political discussion that kept it all relatively focused and diffused it elsewhere to make other boards worse.

Forgive me, I haven't played a MK since the original
I mean for perspective they had a mode that was basically a story RPG / fighting trainer hybrid in Mortal Kombat Deception called Konquest which had a plot centering around how the primary antagonist became the primary antagonist. It was released in 2004.

But every game had a story in one way or another.

There are also plenty of retcons and timeline shenanigans to the point where the story was muddled at best for the vast majority of the series. Though I think they did a decent enough job setting up for this with the Aftermath expansion for MK12.

Then again in my many years on this site I have seen some absolutely laughable decisions by moderators and staff so it is entirely possible CE could absorb all the political topics from 261 and still not get axed for "reasons".
