At the time of its release and given how easy it is to manipulate in game assets by duping items in gen 1 pokemon... I'm sure it would be pretty creepy seeing the game get busted by scrolling past the item scroll index as from that point on asset values can be freely manipulated by choosing said "items" and so forth... Allowing people to teleport, go beyond bounds, have in game music change and stuff or even crash the game...
