there isn't a contradiction at all between not wanting people to be homeless and having access to better care while also not wanting them congregating outside their front doorsteps.

No, but since large scale social change isn't happening any time soon that's how these problems get dealt with anyway. Homeless intervention strategies are reactive and exclusionary. It sucks.

TonyKojima posted...
This is an asinine take. You can absolutely be against homelessness and support better access to the poor while bot wanting them setting up camp on your front yard. Sorry but I wouldn'r want homeless camps in front of my house. And I doubt even the staunchest liberal would as well. Your comment is virtue signaling.

See my above comment. Until we start actually change society this is how we will treat homeless people. Just shuffling them around and making it someone else's problem.

The good
  • How did they improve on nearly every single thing on BoTW, this is a masterwork of a sequel
  • The physics and hand tools are surely going to change gaming yet again
  • The fusing system and in particular how items are linked to monster parts is a simple work of genius. It's crafting without being a giant pain in the ass, and at the same time it doesn't render pick up or quest reward items obsolete like most crafting systems and still makes battle rewarding. Like remember in literally any Bethesda game how you'd craft the ultimate sword and then every quest felt reward felt pointless after that?
  • Rewind might be even more impressive. How the hell the switch manages to record and rewind the path of any object I don't know.
  • From a game design perspective, how they manage to give you all these game breaking tools and encourage you to use them, and still make the game fun is wild. Like they really went "here's a puzzle but you can fuck with it and that's ok"
  • The temples were better and more unique. Still not quite old school zelda quality though.
  • An actual villain this time, thank god for that

The meh
  • Oh yay, even more koroks, and this time those fuckers want you to do a boring fetch quest for them
  • I did not really love most of the shrines this time around, maybe I'm just overall fatigued from BoTW
  • about those temples. They were far too easy and formulaic. I guess we just aren't going to get back the level of intricacy that say, OoT temples had.
  • The combat is still pretty crappy. I get that the sandbox element to this game is encouraging you to approach combat in a different way, so maybe I'm just playing the game wrong. But it seems like more often than not I am still just spamming Y to win.
  • This one isn't really a criticism (and it's probably not even fair), but it's a shame that the game didn't wow me like the first one. I guess it's just that everything feels familiar enough where I don't feel like I'm going in blind.

The terrible
  • The sage abilities are so badly implemented it doesn't even feel like it came from the same game designers. It's so weird that they were so careful about every aspect of the game but seemed to just never play test this.
  • There really should be loadouts and the ability to pre-craft arrows. Because going into a menu and scrolling through 300 items just to fire one arrow is not good, and changing each outfit piece by piece is annoying
  • This isn't even important but I just really hate how when you go to a stable and talk to the guy it takes him about 3 seconds to walk over you, every time, no matter where you are or he is.
  • Why can't the horse just follow you to wherever you fast-travelled to? I get that there are better ways to travel, but man it's really annoying when you just need to run like a mile and there is no good option.
  • On a similar token upgrading armour is so painful. A full cutscene for every piece of armour you upgrade, individually. That's excessive. Yes the great fairies are rapey, we get the picture.

I can't even renew mine until 6 months before expiration, iirc. Could be even 3.

It worked and was normal here until brexit. Before brexit, you could have a UK passport that was valid in the eu for 10 years + whatever time you added by renewing early.

Of course I checked myvisa requirements and passport expiry, it's well within the timeframe I'd be there.

But because of fucking BREXIT there's now some weird rule that isn't really advertised anywhere that your passport date of issue has to be within 10 years. My passport's date of issue is march 2013. I'm a few months out. So even though I have a valid EU passport and it's within the expiry date AND I have a return flight booked a few days later, it's likely I'll be turned away at immigration. And no refunds.

About a thousand bucks down the drain because of a weird rule like this.

I'm going to see if I can get an urgent passport but appointments are slim and im supposed to fly out on thursday.

We're far beyond the point of resorting to 'lack of other explanations' or 'guessing.' Evolution is 100% proven and factual. The only people that think this are the ones with a complete lack of understanding of science. For those unaware, it will always be called "Theory" of Evolution, even if we completely understand every single fact/facet of evolution, and never be called "Law of Evolution."

No, you misunderstand my point. I'm not diminishing the theory of evolution. Of course it is true, and of course it works, and no other explanation is even remotely close. I'm talking about the process of scientific discovery being one that fundamentally works like "we've done a bunch of very careful testing and collected a lot of evidence and also weighed up all the other ideas, and this is the explanation that makes the most sense in the most specific way".

You can never prove anything in science in the sense that it's status of being true is irrevocable. You can only disprove things, and come up with ideas that hold up to the most amount of scrutiny.

When I say "our best guess", I don't mean an armchair quarterback throwaway comment. I mean a collection of hypothesis that have been tested, scrutinised and shown to align with reality, in a way that no others have been able to do.

But you always have to be open to the possibility that the theory may be wrong and that new evidence or methods of testing can become available. That's why it's the scientific theory of evolution and not the universal law of evolution. Fundamentally, science has to be falsifiable.

Climate change is obviously a big problem so it's not like any one person is going to make a large contribution, but there are things you can do which are better than other things you might do:

  • vote for parties or politicians that back large scale changes to emissions
  • Make more ethical choices in corporations you support where possible
  • call out practises that don't help
  • spread awareness of the problem and support the drive to large scale change

Yeah, people (especially on CE and certain other internet bubbles) have an impossible time empathizing with people they disagree with ideologically so they tend to miss what I consider pretty damn obvious signs that a person is having a hard time in life and just demonize them and try to unperson them however they can.

I just switch to flippant mode when people act like that to me, it's too cringe to engage with seriously and they're already clearly doing worse than me so why kick them while they're down, ya know.

It's gotten so much worse over the years too. However much people slam on 4chan/b or old school gamefaqs culture of the past, at least those guys had a sense of irony. These days on message boards like these people go from 0-100 lightning quick as soon as they think someone is outing themselves and really just throw any person and any disagreement straight into the deplorables bin.

Yeah I get it, your time is limited and you don't have the energy to "reach common ground" with every person you disagree with. But to that token, don't get into shitfights on the internet in the first place.

If you had moral qualms about watching it don't fear. It completely lacks the charm of the original anime, the jokes seem to miss and even just Sanosuke's voice actor just can't quite summon the same intensity the original guy had. Kenshin is somehow less goofy and less threatening at the same time. And I can already tell Saito is going to be a let down.
