I really feel like I need to give Hereditary a second shot at some point now that I can go in prepared for what it actually is. I absolutely loathed it my first time through because I have a major pet peeve for stories that introduce paranormal elements partway through that fuck with whatever intrigue it had going on without them. I was completely on board and even downright enthralled when the movie was just about grief completely annihilating a family and the introduction of ghosts and all the associated stuff just completely soured the mix for me - it felt like I had a movie that I would have liked a lot more yanked away and left feeling kind of blueballed.

I'm sure there's some payoff in whatever big come together moment this one's building up to I can't imagine that'll make me feel much better about her own personal story being outright destroyed, lol

Just finished Throne's story and lmao wtf was that trash. I've generally been very positive towards this game's writing so far after doing Temenos, Osvald and Ochette, but I legit can't believe they just threw out an actually interesting character like Father in Chapter 3 so they could have completely-random-immortal-dude who sperm banked his way into a stupid FF8 plot twist. What a mess.

Did the PSP version of Sky not have autosave? (I'm constantly confused by what features were added where since we had the PSP version followed shortly by the PC version which added a bunch of stuff, yet again followed shortly by the Vita version which had even more stuff we never got!)

Yuffie is so great to play I have to wonder how much they're going to be boosting up the rest of the party in Rebirth. As they are now, none of them come close to scratching how fun she is.

He was the guy pushing and pushing to the suits for NEO to get greenlit, he did the character designs for most of the characters and so on. Stranger of Paradise was flat out his story concept, too. He's spoken at length about how he had the story of 'an angry man' in the pocket since Dissidia Duodecim. Team Ninja did the gameplay, but the game concept was Nomura's brainchild and he's the one who got Kazushige Nojima to write the story treatment.

See, neither of those come close to crossing the border of "heavily involved" to me. Credit where credit is due, he definitely deserves to be recognized for pushing for a greenlight for NEO TWEWY and for his work on it as an artist. Stranger of Paradise yeah I'll recognize he had the loose concept of the story but if someone else actually wrote it and a completely different studio made, you know, the entire game, I'm not seeing how either of these examples result in these games being spoke of as "his games" like he directed them or even really had anything to do with their development as games. Yuji Himukai is a fucking incredible artist but I wouldn't say he should get directors credits on any of the Etrian Odyssey games!

-NEO TWEWY (sold poorly, but extremely well liked by its fanbase)
-KH Melody of Memory (kind of a meme game, reception was positive but not stellar)
-FF7 Remake (speaks for itself)

I know Square Enix is mostly to blame for this because of the extremely liberal way they slap Nomura's name on things but it's still nuts to me how often folks attribute games to him where he had little to almost completely nothing to do with the game itself

True, FF7R is partly Nomura but he was joined by other directors and just based on what we know it's difficult to draw the lines of where influence starts and stops. If anything I'd suspect Naoki Hamaguchi had the most to do with it since he's helming the rest of the Remake series and Nomura was in full development of KH3 at the time.

The only recent ARPG Nomura has made is Kingdom Hearts 3 - he had comparatively little to do with Stranger of Paradise, development of which wasn't even led by Squeenix but by Team Ninja.

Holy cow, this is massive! Not sure I have the patience for Dota anymore but this seems totally transformative.

But yeah this game is exceptional, absolutely jam packed with soul to a crazy degree and feels incredible to play once you've got your arms around the rhythm/character action fusion.

I really wonder what a truly offline FF14 would look like, since just porting over the gameplay completely would be a little odd but at the same time it would be a horrible loss to lose all of those boss fights as they currently exist. Maybe FF16 will give us an idea? Seems like the cadence and structure of those boss fights might be pulling pretty liberally from FF14, even if the combat itself isn't.

I don't expect FF14 to go anywhere for a very long time but I really hope they're already starting to think of how they want to eventually take it offline because man it would be awful for the best story in the franchise to become unplayable or otherwise become a shell of its former self.

Games don't "age" but they can look really primitive when looking back on them with modern sensibilities, which Goldeneye definitely does at least when played on original hardware.

Slap mouse controls and performance boosts on it and I think you still have a pretty good game - the layered approach to mission objectives based on difficulty is really cool even compared to more modern games, though Perfect Dark almost immediately blew it out of the water in that and all other respects.

I'll agree that The Answer is really bad even if it does serve as a pretty cool epilogue and give Aigis some of her best stuff. Going into a sloggy, never-ending dungeon crawl with a pathetically weak party right on the tail of going nuts in endgame feels miserable, and there's a ton of padding on top of that. You could definitely cover all of the meaningful plot in a VN segment that could probably be shorter than the Labrys story from P4A.

Outer Wilds and Subnautica are both really funny cases because they can be either pants-shittingly terrifying or completely tame to the point of a player not understanding other people's reactions depending on specific phobias you may or may not have. I wouldn't really call either horror but they're simultaneously ridiculously effective at tapping into some legit primal fears in a way not too many other games even come close to, even if it doesn't always feel intentional.

Except Echoes of the Eye, holy shit that stuff was tense.

Anyway, tag - I'm so completely jealous that there are still people who get to experience this game for the first time.

Well I'll be damned - I didnt believe either of these!

Persona 3 Remake seems a bit weird at first blush but thinking on it is a fantastic chance to address the common complaints of there not being a truly definitive version of the game - and updating that story with modern production and flair could be really cool!

Designs for the new Jet Set look sick but I definitely am more skeptical of this one. Let's start by confirming Hideki Naganuma is on board and then I'll start getting excited.

I hover somewhere between DS4 and Dualsense. Dualsense is really great but it's also reasonably hefty and going back to a DS4 once in a while does feel really nice in its own way. Legit don't have any other controllers I'm remotely as happy about since IMO Sony's line of controllers are the only official ones that have ever existed with actually decent D-pads, but the more recent Xbox controllers and even the Pro Controller are all pretty nice if you're playing something with minimal/no D-pad usage.

PC has had a wide selection of font mods since day one so even if they don't it's no love lost there!

Some of these other quality of life boosters sound really nice though and even if I'm guessing you can mod those in as well it would indeed be really nice to see a confirmation that they're just patching all of this stuff in.

Have a tough time believing this after the last beta was cracked so bad that people have been playing it ever since. Even if there is an open beta, I wouldn't personally count on it having the rest of the roster because at that point they're just releasing the core of the game for free if it gets similarly cracked.

It's a direct upgrade and absolutely superior, though honestly I don't even find Del Taco to be particularly good. Taco Bell is absolute bottom of the barrel.

Geoff's show is mega corporate cringe which is indeed much less fun than the raw cringe of E3s past, but that era is totally dead and has been since well before COVID. There's literally no room or reason for something like E3 when companies can stream their own shows and dominate the (now unceasing) news cycle at any time of their choosing.

Yeah I'd agree that rain is brilliant when accompanied by intentionality but that's only the case in one extremely specific section of the game. It's just pure tedium everywhere else.

California's probably a bit of a special case but condos are really appealing here, especially in OC. Very happily own one myself. Rents out here are about as much as a mortgage and you get far more out of a condo for your money than you do a house. I paid around 565k for my extremely comfortable condo and the same money would, at best, give me a house that's literally falling apart.

I can't watch this stuff until lunch but I do have to wonder the implications of everyone on this topic being more interested in rerunning durability discourse that's been stale for years rather than unpacking the possibilities of anything that was shown here.

PCs get new hardware literally constantly so it's always a bit funny to me to see people get mad about the prospect of iterative hardware in the console market. If you don't feel like you need the power then it shouldn't be an issue - devs getting the limits removed from them is only a good thing and it's an actual nightmare how long console lifecycles are getting. I'd gladly take four PS5 releases before the PS6 if it meant technology was constantly improving. It's an extreme case but just look how miserable the Switch is right now and how much people are dying for a Switch Pro that can actually run these games.

Super excited to see this, been hearing great things! I think so far, 2 is the easy loser. Crazy jump in silliness aside, the choreography is just really, really boring and repetitive compared to both 1 and 3. Like legit, take a shot every time Keanu grapples someone and you'll be blacked out before the movie is over.

That sub-tick technology sounds legitimately incredible. Like, to put it in context, this is even bigger for shooters than rollback netcode is for fighters if it's legit - would completely redefine the gold standard for fps multiplayer.

Just finished all the chapters 1s! Partitio's was far and away my favorite, holy crap I fell in love right away.

Overall loving the game but I will say it bothers me kind of a lot that there are two characters that offer instant buffs/debuffs in a fight at night but zero equivalents during the day. The day/night thing seemed super cool at first but because of this I feel like I'm just purposely hamstringing myself if I ever travel during the day (especially since Temenos is my MC), which sucks since the daytime areas are really pretty.

The responses to this topic really weirded me out so I paid extra attention during my drive this morning - can confirm I only actively check when preparing to change lanes or when I know I'm going to be braking. Seems like what's in front of you should be of far greater concern in every other scenario. Like, why does what's behind you matter with any regular frequency?

Maybe it's a California thing but at least here if you get hit from behind, it's 99.99% going to be the full responsibility of whoever hit you. By contrast you should be far, far more concerned with not hitting anyone in front of you, because if they slam their brakes in the tenth of a second you're looking behind you for some reason, you're probably looking at a doubled premium.

These two things kind of solve themselves actually since you can parry the "shockwave" that starts up the instant-kill minigame or even just dodge it to skip it entirely. You only enter the minigame if you get "hit". Funny enough I thought that the parry introduction was when the combat system really came together!

Absolutely fantastic show, got so many laughs out of me. Zach Hadel is a twisted little lad and I legit can't get enough of his voices. Agreed that the grandma scene absolutely kills me every time.

I would be scared shitless to use a Wiki for anything in a game like this that has 10+ sequels, especially when everything you'd ever need to know can be found either in your in-game notebook or in the spoiler-free FAQs and Steam guides that exist.

Legit have never brushed before bed in my adult life and my teeth are in great shape - dentists consistently say I appear to be brushing very well and I've never had a cavity or any other problem. Electric brushes are an absolute game changer for anyone who's never used one.

I would actually call both Predator and Die Hard about as perfect as movies can possibly get, just two insanely fantastic films. Die Hard just barely edges it out almost entirely for sentimental reasons as it's a Christmas tradition for my sister and I to watch it - and god damn if it's not just as good every single time.

Yeah I'll definitely add my, erm, voice to the pushback on American VA work being bad. Things haven't been "bad" in a blanket sense since we moved past the PS1 era (which even then had insane stuff like MGS1) and they're actually generally really fucking good now for both games and anime.

There's a mod on PC that makes every character gain AP regardless of their participation and wow is it an improvement not to have to deal with that tedium. Really surprised they elected not to fix that with the remasters.

Yeah Schreier pointed out in his follow up tweet that a delay like this is just going to be for polish - it won't solve the problem that caused the huge negative reaction to the recent showing since it's literally the core of the game that people don't like.
