It looks like the only other officially nominated track was "The Void" back at the first topic. I wasn't a fan of that one, but to be fair, it has been a few years since I heard it & my tastes may have shifted enough that I'd be more favorable to the song these days.

(I don't keep a record of extra songs that weren't officially ranked, so I don't know if any others showed up during a post-ranking listen)

Anyhow, I'll add those songs to the extra list next time I'm at the tablet.

Phil Bozeman (the vocalist) has such a powerful voice and his childhood was pretty messed up. Both his parents died when he was young and the last two albums have songs/themes that relate to that.

Any specific song you'd like me to check out after the main ranking? I'm not opposed to trying another one or two later.

Mambo No. 5: Ehhh... it's a good attempt, in theory? I like that they changed the lyrics and it's an interesting novelty, but I'm not sure if I liked it. I'm also not sure I didn't. I don't know how to process what this even is.

Crocodile Rock: Obviously not as good as the original, but it is oddly charming. The way that one fellow can't really sing but is obviously having fun makes it vaguely inspirational. I kinda like this one.

Doesn't seem like a bad album.

It's not bad, but I'm not connecting with it... I'd say the backing music is an improvement, but the lyrics & her vocal performance are a serious step backwards. A bit too hopeful & spiritual, with a chorus that repeats often enough to take up the majority of the song's runtime (or at least feel like it does), but she is talented enough that I don't really mind it... first reaction would probably be over 50, but below 55. (Though considering the extreme variation in songs' scores from day-to-day, I wouldn't place too much stock on a first reaction.)

I like his voice here. The song does feel a bit long, as though it didn't need to be a full-length track, but there's a pleasingly smooth quality to his voice that might be able to carry the song fairly far. I'd be surprised if it dropped below the 55 point Wall, but I'd have to hear it a few times on different days to see if I'd take it far above that line.

The other two songs, I'm not as sold on... they're kinda funny, but it depends on if they wound up being the type of thing that'd randomly get stuck in my head or not. I think it's too soon to guess how many points they'd wind up with.

It's basically just a catch all term for mid-50s to early 60s teen pop, girl groups, and early rock n roll. Hugely influential on pretty much all music genres after it.

Ah. Well, I was listening to a lot of early 60's stuff earlier this year, so that does check out. Thank you!

I definitely did want to hear more examples of saxophones and I'm glad a variety of saxes were nominated so that I could try to pin down exactly what I liked about them. ...Unfortunately, my interest in the instrument is apparently rather narrow and... well I go a bit more into the topic during a song that was supposed to be eliminated tomorrow, but since the song is relevant *now* & everything in the Wall is tied so the order is meaningless, I suppose we'll add a surprise 11th song to the Wall:

(First Reaction: A very snazzy type of jazz that is enjoyable, though I personally would've liked it to be a bit more subdued and laid-back. It's fun and energetic, just a bit too energetic?)

!Yeah, I don't think I'm a jazz... pony... I think I can appreciate how complex this is (and at least partially improvised from what little I can understand of people who know what they're talkjing about say about this) & it's definitely a style of song I wanted to be nominated so I could get exposure to it, but it's just not clicking for me.

[Final Thoughts: Yeah, I'm afraid I'm just not big into most styles of jazz. Also my saxophone love seems to extend entirely to... whichever type of sax was featured in the end credits of various Disney Afternoon shows, such as Darkwing Duck:

Ahh... there's that particular set of notes that triggers the good shot of nostalgia... it's a bit of a lower pitch and much smoother (and poppier) than standard jazz. Either way, this nominated song is ummm.... "not that", obviously, which I'm not holding against it--it's just a general 'oh yeah, when I thought I loved saxes, I think it's this one particular type for reasons that I didn't know were nostalgia and furry based, but like everything else is my personality, is very much related to nostalgia & talking animals' type statement.]

So.. uhh... it may be less "I love saxophones" as "I love things that remind me of furry cartoons and a specific type of sax does thanks to the Disney Afternoon". Which I hadn't realized at the time, but... yeah...

Still, thank you to everyone who helped me come to this realization.

It's possible the Simpsons has also influenced my opinion of saxes thanks to Lisa, but that has yet to be determined.

Okay, so current plan for the next few days:

1: Every remaining song with fewer than 55 points has been upgraded to 55 points, effective immediately. I've already updated this change on all of my pages & it'd be a pain to change it back, so it's a bit too late to change things now. ...I mean, I <i>could</i>, but I'd rather not.

2: This means that there's going to be a lot of tied songs, which will take a few days to go through. We'll be dropping ten songs a day, at least until the Wall o' 55 is resolved and this goes back to being a normal ranking topic. ...or whatever passes for a normal ranking topic for us at any rate

3: Like always, songs that are tied right now may be given additional points at any time to move them out of being tied... which means I don't exactly know how many songs will wind up being tied by the time the Wall ends. So I kinda don't know what placement to assign anything right now; everything's going to be at #??? place until the Wall is fully resolved.

4: While the songs are tied, they will be eliminated in the originally scheduled order... I did consider grouping all of an individual's nominations together, but I feel it's more dramatic if there's seemingly no rhyme or reason to the order the tied songs are posted.

It's nonsensical, but this is a place where reason goes to die & you were warned about CHAOS in the opening post. ....after you'd already nominated and it was too late to escape, but still, there was something resembling a warning.

Messed up the counting there for some reason. Attitude Intro should be #717 and every song posted since then should be listed as one rank lower, so Ceora should be #692nd place.

Will try to do a few extra eliminations tomorrow to round out the bottom 100 songs, which would be a good time to recheck my numbers & see if there are any other glaring inconsistencies that need to be fixed.

Mighty Echo definitely ended up top 10 in that ranking, if not top 5. Can't remember precisely myself. But either way, it's fun that it's stuck with you that much in the time since!

Was it? Well, then I feel better. I do remember it having abysmal scores on the first two listens and it finally clicking at the last moment, but I couldn't recall how much of a boost to its score I actually gave. Either way, I went back to that song quite often, so it's good to know that it did get a relatively high score.
