I played a lot of this one as a kid, I think I actually 100%'d it

it's a pretty easy game, there's like 2 noob trap things that make you instantly lose but once you know those you will make it basically every single time

today I discovered Oregon Trail II, however, and holy fucking shit this game is awesome. You actually walk around the towns, it's literally just an RPG (without any leveling up), and they have dozens and dozens of items i dont even know what they all do.

Tbh I had to look up that last post and it has taken a significant amount of fun out of learning about the Oregon trail. Wtf wrong with ppl.

I eat cheese pizza so nice restaurant are way better than fast food pizza. I get an awesome large pizza for 12 bucks, but it's a tier above.

The fact that Magnus won the entire tournament EVEN THOUGH he had a loss to Niemann (via the 1-more resignation) is evidence that Niemann is not stronger than Magnus. Niemann got a free W against the strongest player in the tourney. He should have cleaned shop if he's so good.

And, of course, Kasparov was almost certainly right about that. And he was certainly wrong about Magnus. He underestimated magnus, but I don't think Magnus is underestimating Hans.

it's enough that I think the world should definitely be more inclined to listen to magnus on this one. the chess.com review only happened after he resigned that game, so his action had the desired effect of prompting an investigation by the community. that investigation (done by people that are business competitors of magnus...magnus runs his own chess site too) should carry a lot of weight.

ultimately it's beyond damning. hans is 100% a fucking cheater.

I told you guys magnus was right when this story first hit. recently chess.com found 100s of examples of Hans cheating online when they looked into his history. Hans is a liar and piece of shit and a cheater who's double-trippling down on his own bullshit. Hans is a con man.

magnus played this guy and he knew that he wasn't anywhere on his level. it's hard for people to understand when the skill level is this high.

and ive said it before: you just don't know magnus. he's actually fucking awesome. he would never, ever, accuse someone of cheating just because he lost.

it's not like he hasn't lost a game before.

that guide is not the best but it did remind me of the other mechanics:

FOOD: Use filling rations. In the original version (not deluxe) you want the smallest rations because it's too hard to hunt (in the original you can carry back only 100 lbs of food, in deluxe it's 200).

PACE: Grueling. You want to go fast. If you see:

"bad water"
"no grass"
"no water"

then switch your pace to slow.

although the national park registry claims that 6%-10% of the travelers died, that is an overestimate.

more accurately it was closer to 4-5% of travelers died on the trail (and, theoretically, since the journey took 6 months at least some were going to die anyway). around 400,000-500,000 people traveled the trail, so probably 20-25,000 or so people died.

Yes they really got free land provided they were white and a man.

at first all men were given 1 square mile of land (64 acres), but they quickly changed it to 32 acres per man, with an additional 32 for your wife (if you were married).

15 boxes of bullets
3 of each spare part
1 pound of food

then hunt every day until you have 2000 lbs of food.

anytime someone is sick/injured you 100% sit your ass still and rest, even as much as 30 days, until they are better.

You can also exploit the trading in this version: ask for 99 dollars until someone offers it to you for 3 oxen. sell those oxen then ask for 3 oxen and accept the first cash offer that was under 99 dollars. repeat as much as you can tolerate.

If you don't care about score, be a Bank and use all the extra money on food so you don't have to hunt as much.

You can also play amazon trail but i dont know anything about that game except spear fishing was impossible.

What's the best start?

I start in March because I'm going to hunt and rest a lot. Even starting in April caused me to almost lose my last run. Theoretically even May shouldnt be a huge problem though.

Yes and yes. The key mechanic in the game is illness, broken bones, diseases, etc. Anytime this happens you are literally supposed to rest until it's healed. A broken bone can easily take 21+ days to heal in the game. You need to hunt a lot to have enough food to do this.

For rivers, if it's under 2.5 feet you can ford it. If it's between 2.6 and 6.0 feet you should caulk the wagon and float it. If it's higher than that you should take a ferry.

There are mechanics to when you should hire the Native American ferryman, but I don't know them. I always take this option, but it CAN mess up.
