6. Ironic - The most ironic part of this song is that it's hardly about irony. I don't know how intentional that was. But, while this is distracting, at least Alanis makes fun of herself for it. The music is awesome here too.

I always just assumed that it was an inside joke where the ironic part was that are no ironies in the lyrics.

The most amazing thing to me is the sheer number of hits that came from this album, yet I don't remember it feeling oppressive at the time. How can somebody be everywhere like that and not get old? Must be because the music is that good. Maybe that's why she played God in Dogma. Though I will say, listening to the whole album does leave me a little tired of her vocals. Maybe that's why God didn't speak in Dogma! Seriously, though, this is a really good album.

Tell me you're British without telling me you're British, Arctic Monkeys. Why not drive around in a Mini Cooper with the Union Jack painted on it while you're at it. A decent album well worth the listen, but I'm unlikely to go back to anything other than a couple favorites.

Considering all of the other cards that can go into a deck where Nova is useful, does the game need a better version of him?

While our government is not, in fact, a Ponzi scheme, I do see how it could be seen that way. The problem, however, was that Madoff ran his into the ground after a couple of decades. Not sure I'd trust something that has worked for nearly 250 years to a guy who committed a crime, knowing it was a crime because it was part of his previous job to stop others from doing it, and didn't get away with it. That's like hiring a former prosecutor to be your defense attorney after he got caught murdering his wife.

I'm just not shocked by this in the least. Childhood stardom is among the worst things a kid could have to deal with growing up, and his manager was accused of extra heinous stuff by other clients (dude probably diddled little boys, including Aaron). He had drug problems pretty much his entire life, and boy did he have bad relationships. One girlfriend threatened to kill him, another was arrested for domestic violence against him. By the end he was trying to make rent by way of OnlyFans. Basically his life is the kind of thing you'd wish on your worst enemy. I feel bad for him

I'll buy one on the very off chance. I won't miss $2, but obviously that kind of money would be life changing beyond belief. Someone's gotta win, right? Really, just deaming about what I could do with the money is worth $2.

I'm glad we went with one of the more foundational, easy to listen to jazz albums. I find the genre intimidating, but this was a pretty reasonable introduction. I was wondering for a bit if I was going to like the album. I like Tourist Point of View but right after it goes into slower/quieter stuff that just didn't do it for me. Once Mount Harissa hit, though, I noticed that I was subconsciously moving along with it. I almost made it my top song, but the last two minutes really dragged it down for me. And that's kind of the problem for me - this album is all over the place, there's not even internal consistency in many of the songs, let alone the album as a whole. I know some people love that about jazz, but it doesn't work for me. Overall a good experience, though.

I wanted to like Glover but it's just a sub par game, at least the N64 version. Just as clunky, unfun to control game. Hope the PC version played better for the people who are looking forward to this.

So I actually did want to listen to last week's album but it just slipped by me (a common thing for me). I did decide to go ahead and listen to Sugar/Tzu since it came out on top (and happens to be the second track). I get the sense that black midi isn't a band/artist I'd really be into, but I did appreciate what they have going on. Lots of talent in there. What many would call "noise" I can see as intensely skillful. Again, not my thing, but I might still try to give the full album a listen sometime.

If you told 14 year old me that I wouldn't just listen to an album like this but actually enjoy it, I don't think I would have believed you. My tastes changed quite a bit over the course of my high school years and by the time this album came out I was ready for some Kylie. I find this album to just be an absolute delight, despite a couple of songs not being all that great. This is absolutely an album I would listen to on repeat.

The reason why this is interesting is because the story is interesting. "This is a cd that was left on my windshield" is not a compelling story. I recorded this off the radio, I've been trying to track it down, I've talked to these people etc. is a more compelling story. Also it doesn't hurt the story at all that it was from cold war era Germany. A lot of information (and even a few people, I'd wager) simply vanished after the fall of the Berlin Wall. You really couldn't find a better time and place to set a mystery like this.

I love the response you get when you shazam the song. Someone should get a German DJ from the area to play it (if they haven't already) and asking if anyone knows who the band is. Or, hell, track down German DJs from that time/place. This is, again, if they haven't already. If the song exists someone, somewhere has to know who it was.

That does not sound like any episode of X-Files that I remember, but it's been a long time. I can't help, but hopefully someone who can comes along.

If Nixon had lived to see what Trump pulled off he would have kicked himself. Impeached twice, rode it out, wasn't that far from being reelected anyway. It used to be, but they've let their quality fall far to much. I guess that means JJ's? We have a chain here in Tucson that is definitely not national (yet) called Eegees that's really good. The make these fruit drinks that are like slushies but made with real fruit. Not quite a frozen smoothie, either. It's hard to describe but the drink itself is called an eegee. When I moved to Tucson there were I guess 17 locations and only here, now they have double that and have invaded parts of Phoenix metro area.

Way too flattered to be mad... can I go a little off track and ask, and I hope this isn't insulting, is that about "passing?"

Also knowing my friend, and knowing his friend groups, maybe he does know such people, but I do not think these are people he would call friends nor vice versa. I am easily the most progressive person in his friend group and will admit in this matter I still have much to learn. Honestly this whole thing came up because he was angry at someone who was "clearly a woman" introducing herself by saying I'm so and so and my pronouns are she/her in a business meeting.

Okay, to unpack this...
There are some trans women who may refer to themselves as traps but it's not common and usually comes from an older, less modern mindset (and may be fetishism).
It's more likely that crossdressers or femboys may call themselves traps and my friend maybe lumps those groups together though they clearly are not the same thing.
The trans women (so far) in this thread would not self-identify as such and could be seriously offended if someone else did identify them as such.
Due to the complexity of the situation it is not strictly a slur, but nevertheless my friend is probably not being fully honest in saying that he "knows several trans women" that call themselves traps.

No love for Ys III ever, it seems. It was my first Ys game so I had no idea until later that it was the black sheep of the series. Still, Ys 6 is top notch.

I agree on MM. Just because it has several much better sequels doesn't mean it's a bad game. It's just not as polished.

I was having shall we say a heated debate with a friend of mine and one point he used the word "trap" to refer to trans women. I told him that was a slur and he shouldn't use that word to describe a person. He disagreed and said he "knew several trans women that call themselves traps." I found that hard to believe. The only time I've heard the term used is in the pejorative. Am I wrong? Has the word "trap" become something that trans people have "taken back" like the n-word? If it is, is it still wrong for someone outside the community to use the word?

I can't believe Street Fighter got that far. Was there vote stuffing? I know it launched a great series, but that game in particular is not good.

I don't really know Jazz and everyone I've talked to about it seems to have at least an informal education in music. That's knowledge I just don't have. As a result it's a far more intimidating genre to me than any other, including Classical.

I did Lyft for like one night almost a decade ago so I doubt my experience means much but I will say the money is good if do peak times.

Initially while listening to this album I got the sense that this one just wasn't going to be for me. I was digging Prelude 3.0 a bit, but the next few songs felt like they went too hard. While I appreciate the sheer skill it must take to play like that, I don't really appreciate listening to it too much. There is good stuff in here, but the album as a whole is not something I would want to listen to again.
