It rarely happens in Western media, but I always find it amusing when a bulletproof character uses a gun. I don't know why.

I'm watching the movie now and I'm at the scene where they're watching Snow White. It's interesting to think that there was a time when Disney would license their properties out to movies made by other studios. The same thing hit me when I saw Mickey Mouse represented in the parade from A Christmas Story last weekend.

Written by the movie's screenwriter, huh? That's pretty interesting. If he says they're aliens, I guess that makes them aliens. I always assumed they were supernatural since Mogwai is supposed to be a Chinese word for demon, but I guess it makes sense that someone who discovered a gremlin would think they're a demon whether they are or not.

Something they bring up in the Jurassic Park novel is that, with most large predators, the strength is in the neck more so than the jaws. Gorillas have a stronger bite than lions. A lion gets a hold of its prey with its jaws and uses its neck tear its victim apart.

Then again, a tyrannosaurus had pit bull jaws and alligator teeth. It's like a hydraulic press designed to crunch bones. It might have had the strongest bite.

I read an article just this morning about how THAT scene about Santa Claus and her dad almost didnt make it into the movie because its tone was so much darker than the rest of the film.

At least it gave us one of the funniest moments in the sequel when everyone dead-asses her when she's trying to explain why she dislikes the 4th of July.

Fun fact for you, Gizmo was originally meant to be the one to become Stripe the leader of the Gremlins but when Steven Spielberg saw how adorable Gizmo was he was the one that vetoed that idea.

Stripe was originally supposed to be a transformed Gizmo?

I'm not sure what to think. Spielberg definitely made the right choice in splitting them into two separate characters, but he's also responsible for my one misgiving with the film.

Billy should have been the one to defeat Stripe, and was meant to be, but Spielberg argued that Gizmo was the hero and mandated that he be the one to defeat Stripe. It's jarring to watch Billy get stalked and beaten up for several minutes and come out of the fight with nothing to show for himself. Other than that, the film's great.

It's hard to believe that Spielberg is responsible for the best and worst decisions of the movie.

It would be, except Halloween is better off being at the end of the movie. That's really the advantage that it has over Christmas. The Christmas season is 25 days. The Halloween season is 31.

"Realistic" superhero movies miss the point of superheroes.

It would be difficult to incorporate the rock, paper, scissors style of fighting into a film. What's he going to do, get mauled by a robot master only to come back and dominate them once he's discovered the right weapon?

Should the film spoil for viewers which weapons are effective against which robots? Should they have original robot masters so that they don't tip their hand on the games? Or should they lie to players? Oh, of course Heat Man is weak against Electric Spark.

In any event, the visuals would also eat up any budget. I don't want a movie that takes place mostly in a frozen setting because Chill Penguin's stage is the only one that won't eat up the budget.

I tried and failed to get into that show several times even though I own the DVD, just wasn't my cup of tea. However, speaking as a mature adult male in his very late 30's, you bet your ass I'm gonna give the show another shot now, homina-homina-homina!

That episode wasn't aired on TV in the US, so unless you had the DVD box copy or someone told you and you could find fan subs, most people wouldn't be aware of the hot springs episode.

Unfortunately, that episode actually has meaningful plot developments, so I'm sure a lot of people were confused in the last episodes where Gene got his crazy powerful caster shells from.

The next episode opens with Gene and Jim discussing how many caster shells he was able to get. It doesn't really create a plot hole since it can be presumed he collected them between episodes.

Still, it does kind of cheapen it.

"Yeah, I picked it up along with yesterday's groceries."

If you start out with something basic, you can branch out and do more outlandish things -- like Mario leaving the platforming behind for some go-karting. If you start out unique and you conform to the standard, that's taking a hit.

Cruz has publicly bullied his daughter and proceeded to get re-elected. There is no reason to believe that anyone that votes for Cruz and watches the news would change their mind here.

We'll see. The popularity polls will be out there soon enough.

If he increases in popularity because of this, the US is in trouble.

Her being a lesbian, something I didn't know until this topic, makes a different in the amount of sympathy she'll receive from conservatives. They're not altogether known for being sympathetic to LGBTQ individuals. You might even get some disgusting "sympathy" from people thinking that she was corrupted and that this wouldn't have happened if she'd chosen a normal life.

Even so, driving a daughter to a suicide attempt is bad PR.
