Contrary to the narrative that far-left circles on the Internet might portray, the majority of the voting public does not want to dismantle Capitalism and put Socialism in its place, and that includes the majority of registered Democrat voters. Barack Obama and Beto ORourke are both advocates of Capitalism.

right-wing economic policies harm vulnerable people and empower people who are already powerful. this is proportionately more harmful to marginalized groups (queer people, disabled people, people of colour, etc.) than to the general population. "cutting taxes" means cutting the social programs that assist those vulnerable people. that's far, far worse than any bigotry at the individual level

there's a fairly common misconception that people become more conservative as they age.

there is a small amount of truth to it -- older people do tend to be more conservative -- but it's a matter of survivor bias more than anything else. that is; people with more money tend to be more conservative because it is in their self-interest. people with more money also tend to be older, because people with less money tend to die younger.

I'm not even sure I believe in intelligence as a concept; never mind the idea that it can be measured to any meaningful level of precision

What states make it hard to get ID? In my state, it can be a pain to deal with the DMV back then but you can just walk in and get what you need now, post-pandemic.

Obviously it is still killing elderly at a higher rate. That said, of the original 95% (ages 65+) who got their vaccine, only 70% have got their booster. That number drops to 40% for a second booster.

If they want any percentage of unemployment other than 0%, they need to provide a UBI which will provide a livable wage which can provide the following:

* rent
* food
* electricity
* healthcare
* car + maintenance
* internet
* phone
* entertainment
* cheap hobby

at that point, proposing that people be unemployed will be a non-evil suggestion

the thing about ubi is that any middle men for the mentioned services (landlords, grocery store owners, owners of power companies, etc) will reap significantly larger benefits than the rest of people. why should they be incentivized to raise prices? the more effective solution would be to provide those things directly

I was picturing someone taking a bigass cauldron of chili and throwing in a bunch of fucking fettuccine or something and I was ready for combat.

yeah I will often eat chili on top of noodles, like instead of a pasta sauce, but putting noodles into the chili itself seems strange

beans -- specifically kidney beans -- are a core ingredient of chili. chili is good when put on noodles (instead of a pasta sauce and such) but it doesn't inherently contain noodles

I'm pointing out the problem, not creating it. the problem, in your analogy, would be with "business marketing 101", and with the military industrial complex; not with me.

They aren't, and really you're just deflecting from the real groups that are like gangs, sex traffickers or drug cartels. Who I'm almost positive you've talked less shit about combined then the military in your life.

Their choice, and weather or not they share your morals. Which is a entirely other matter and one I don't think you've ever even considered.

as has been pointed out, "their choice" to join the military is generally not an informed one. regardless, I'm not criticizing "their choice" here. I'm critiquing the military industrial complex; specifically the predatory nature of it.
