I don't think that one is a threat. It's just the inevitably of people being pushed too far if nothing is done. No one wants that to happen because it never ends well.

At the same time, gfaqs can not allow such comments (thinly veiled or not) to be made.

And no I'm not an internet tough guy. In fact I'm someone that's been very passive for most of my life whilst living in violent areas. I'm used to people walking all over me and the psychological consequences of "just words", so I know first hand how badly in need so many people are of an ass kicking back to their senses.

There's no such thing as "just words". Words can also lead to deaths or career ending cancelling and most violence begins as "just words". Words are always the catalyst for something bigger. Someone that is a bully is going to always be a bully until they experience the deterrent of violence in response and learn to think before they speak. You're doing a favour to all the potential people that asshole would've made miserable.

It's no use parents or schools teaching kids to "Think before you speak" if there's minimal or no consequences in most cases anyway. That becomes a pointless phrase without any reinforcement, despite it being a thing that every individual should have hammered into their common sense.

Yet my experience says otherwise. I literally live in an area where groups of kids hang around on corners of streets and will say some offensive shit at you just for looking in their direction. They act that way because they don't think anyone is going to actually respond with violence. If you ignore them they don't learn a lesson and just continue being rude to everyone. If you respond verbally then they're getting the response they want and expect, so still nothing is learnt. Yet you also can't be violent because they're just kids.

I literally work in a place where almost every day groups of 17-18 year olds come in, try to stir up trouble, ruin my day by making my job hard for me and being rude. There's no consequences, because not even security over here is allowed to legally lay hands on them and they know and abuse that fact. Then they end up being the next generation of violence asshole because the world has basically taught them that they're free to walk over everyone. Then what'll happen is they get to an older age, act this way to the wrong person who will lay hands on them now they're adults and they end up getting fucked up in a way that's too late to learn a lesson.

It doesn't matter if being passive is the right thing in your mind. To the verbal aggressors they just see you as being docile and a bitch, so they get complacent with acting that way and you're not achieving anything. It also means that people get so used to being pacifists that when others are in actual physical danger they end up being the kind of people that just stand and uselessly watch.

How do you propose that anyone learns consequences if the best you can do is just ignore them for stepping out of line or just call them a big meanie? If more people knew there's potential for violent consequences for acting like a prick then maybe just maybe more people will think before they speak, which is a habit everyone should follow anyway.

It's like everyone loves to forget that verbal aggression has physical outcomes. Someone can easily push someone to suicide with just words, so this holier than thou mentality of violence is worse than words is nonsense. The point should never be if something was "physical" or verbal. People should always be looking at the intent.

Now again this doesn't apply to the Will Smith scenario, just the general menatlity that violence is never the answer. Self defence is always ok and no one should ever have to put up with someone ruining your mentality to make themselves feel better or superior. Even more so if it's someone with you that's close to you and you know don't have the courage to do something themselves.

I was just talking about how people are using the situation to say the nonsense that violence is never the answer, not this specific scenario. In this scenario I can see both sides of the argument in favor of either individual. This apparently isn't the first time Chris made a joke about her alapceia, and she obviously wasn't laughing then either.

I'm not saying someone shouldn't joke about something if that target person is in the crowd, but Will has been very open about his wife's emotional struggle with alapecia and Chris just turned the whole crowd's attention to her so now she probably feels like the whole room is laughing at her. When someone's suffering from something is on-going it's probably best to not make jokes about it when they're in your front row and the world is watching, not unless they themselves have been openly jokey about the situation or you're a close friend

I think it'd be different if the joke was directed at Will and he reacted like this, or if his wife was the one laughing and he was the only one bothered, but I can see why he did what he did when his wife's just came out to enjoy a nice night without being humiliated and reminded of something that clearly emotionally bothers her still. I can see why Will did what he did.
