Sadly it won't matter much. Linus touched on it in a recent podcast, but Ukraine produces a significant portion of a metal that is used to make pc parts, so unless someone steps up to take that responsibility if Russia gains power over that territory, they can cut off shipping to the rest of the world entirely and horde it for themselves.

War is never easy or an instant solution, but with Iraq and Afgahstian overthrowing a regime, corrupt as they may be created a massive power vacuum

Kicking out an invading force would have less negative consequences if said invading force didn't have a nuclear arsenal to virtually match our own.

Hmm, well all I know is that after spending years in Afganistan, they eventually pulled out and the Taliban took over in days and are now currently suppressing it's people.

The idea that any major power can just go charging in guns metaphorically blazing to fix an issue is a fantasy. The US failed with Afganistan, have been in a technical stalemate war with North Korea for decades and the "war on terror" was a complete disaster.

Now I dislike armed conflict as much as the next person but you can still "win" against a larger power without needing to be able to actually outfight them.

Just make it extremely costly and draw it out as long as possible till they realize it's not worth it and pull out.

It's why the cold war happened, a war of information, secrecy, proxies and sanctions.

Unless you are a smaller country this is how war is fought. The days of outward war between 2 major powers is long over.

A proxy war can still directly involve one side and still be a proxy war.

For example the russian invasion of Afganistan was considered a proxy war.

So Ukraine has essentially become yet another proxy war if what I'm getting from this speech is accurate.
