When my godson Adam was 9 years old, he developed a brief but freakishly intense obsession with Elvis Presley. He took to singing Jailhouse Rock at the top of his voice. Today I pull up the the first window at Mcdonald's to pay. The woke employee inside has his mask around his neck and just hands me my credit card back without saying a word. I proceed to the next window and as the window opens I immediately hear somebody say "I ain't going back to burger king." Then he just throws the bag at me and doesn't say anything. Afterwards I ended up on the toilet for an hour so not sure what they did to my food.

This is all theoretical, but 1 more thing I wanted to add:

Lets say I wanted 20k per month for retirement. Which is plenty, and it'll be taxed at long term capital gains. To be able to still stay slightly positive, the net total would have to be around 3.8-4 mil.

If I do the opening post strategy for 17 years, it will amount to 4mil. I will be 50 years old at that time.

So theoretically I can retire at 50, and the interest gained will be more than the withdrawls, while still enjoying life and being extremely comfortable.

Honestly running the numbers blew my mind. This is the actual way that rich peoples stay rich. I don't see any need to go out and invest in anything else. There is no work involved in any of this. You don't deal with the headache of setting up a bunch of rental properties and dealing with difficult tenants, don't have to worry about following the ups and downs of the stock market, don't have to worry about putting in all the work in growing businesses. You can relax and enjoy life.

If all you need is lets say 5k per month withdrawls to live comfortably, you'd need a million to be on autopilot. If you can muster up 2k per month for 20 years, you can retire and thats it. And you should have ira/401k (+/-roth) all maxed out, so once you turn 60 or whatever, you can start withdrawing from those, withdraw less from the brokerage, and let the brokerage keep growing. At 1 mil and withdrawing 5k per month, after 20 years of doing that, you'll be at 1.2 mil.

Is there any flaw in any of this logic? serious question. I ran all those numbers with 3% inflation, 8% returns. Even if the markets go down, they will always go back up. I think the only flaw is how taxes will be unpredictable. 20 years from now, will capital gains be alot higher, will they start taxing unrealized gains...that would be a bitch.
