I wouldn't. It looks like they are well on their way of smashing their goal but they allow you to donate more if you like. Surplus however goes to the indie devs themselves. A noble cause if there ever was one.

I prefer to take it at the pump.

I see no downside except for squandering the money out of panic, possibly putting yourself in a worse position.

Skatebird is one of the titles included. Fun skating game with an incredible soundtrack. The game alone goes for like $16 on Steam.
