In the latest installment of Republicans cultural and legal war against LGBTQ adults and children, the vast majority of the U.S.s Republican attorneys general filed a lawsuit last week suing the Biden administration over its Department of Agriculture (USDA) rule aimed at preventing LGBTQ children from being discriminated against in school meal programs.

Twenty-two Republican attorneys general, including from states with explicitly far-right GOP leadership like Texas, are suing over a rule announced by the USDA earlier this year that prohibits schools from receiving federal meal funding if they have meal programs that discriminate against LGBTQ children. About 95 percent of public schools receive federal funding for meals. The rule is based off of anti-discrimination rules laid out in Title IX.

Their argument that the USDA doesnt have the authority to make such anti-discrimination rules is similar to what a Tennessee judge found of federal protections for LGBTQ people in school and the workplace last month.

However, the underlying reason that the attorneys general are bringing the lawsuit is to advance their mission of subjugating and punishing LGBTQ children and adults for existing. Indianas Republican Attorney General Todd Rokita, one of the leaders of the lawsuit, said in a loaded statement announcing the lawsuit that the Biden administration is dead-set on imposing an extreme left-wing agenda and added that the anti-discrimination rule is a form of left-wing authoritarianism.

Of course, the real threat of authoritarianism in the U.S. is coming from the right, which is coordinating to rig elections for the GOP and has spent the last years enshrining cruel anti-LGBTQ ideologies into their official party platforms and passing laws establishing legal bases to discriminate against trans youth, unleashing violence against the LGBTQ community.

Advocates for the National School Lunch program, which helps to feed tens of millions of children each year, have long held that the program is necessary to reduce poverty and improve health outcomes for children who may not be able to access meals otherwise. The USDA anti-discrimination rule was announced as part of a Biden administration initiative to prevent discrimination against LGBTQ children in schools.

Republicans have spent decades trying to make cuts to school meals; earlier this year, thanks in part to Republican leaders in Congress, legislators failed to extend a universal school lunch program that has fed an estimated 10 million children through the pandemic.

The party, which has been lurching further and further into right-wing extremism, has launched a deluge of escalating attacks against LGBTQ people in recent years. Earlier this year, after Republican legislators banned trans children from participating in school sports and hurled hateful and false child abuse allegations against parents of LGBTQ children, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that his administration was moving to ban trans children and Medicaid recipients from receiving gender affirming care care that evidence shows can often be life-saving.

In another recent lawsuit, a prominent Texas Republican who had a major hand in crafting the states restrictive abortion ban argued that allowing people to access HIV medications for free under the Affordable Care Act was a violation of his Christian clients rights to maintain their homophobia.

It wasn't just defeated, it was flat-out dumpstered. Currently at 61.9% against with 76.8% of the vote in. It's fucking political malpractice the Democrats aren't launching a full-throated offensive on the issue, to say nothing of the moral bankruptcy of not doing so.

So significantly more people voted "No" to this than people voted "For" Trump in 2020.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), one of the 25 Republicans who had abruptly switched their initial yes vote to a no, signaled on Monday that the bill, which provides aid for veterans suffering from toxic exposures, will overcome the blockade when Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) puts it up for a vote again.

It will pass this week, McConnell said.

A similarly squirmy Senate Republican Conference chair John Barrasso (R-WY), the third-ranking GOP senator and another Republican who had changed his vote, told Politico that he would expect it to pass.

Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD), who voted against the legislation both times, said that at some point the bill is going to pass and it will pass big.

The leaders backtracking marks an attempt at damage control as Republican senators find themselves getting raked over the coals for blocking the PACT Act, which had initially passed the Senate in a largely bipartisan 84-14 vote last month but was brought to a vote again last week due to a technical error.

When the legislation was put to a vote again, 25 Republicans whod voted for it the first time inexplicably blocked the bill; a move that was widely understood to be a flailing attempt at politically motivated retaliation after Schumer and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced a deal on a bill to address climate change, drug pricing and corporate taxes.

Because then everything is at the top of the screen and the bottom is just the bottom. To me not only does it look nicer but I find it better having everything grouped together.

GM doesn't want people buying some of its newer and most sought-after models, such as the GMC Hummer EV, to quickly sell them for a profit. The automaker is implementing several aggressive measures meant to discourage the practice, even if it ends up losing the company some customers. In a letter obtained by Corvette Blogger, Steve Carlisle, GM President for North America, told the GM Dealership team that the company is "limiting the transferability of certain warranties" if the vehicle being resold was purchased within the past 12 months. Further, GM will ban the seller from "placing future sold orders or reservations for certain high demand models (as identified by GM)."

Carlisle said the models affected by this new rule are the GMC Hummer EVs (SUT and SUV), the 23MY Cadillac Escalade-V and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. GM has been struggling to keep up with the demand for its electric Hummer vehicles, and the company said it's because it was developed from scratch and was built on top of its new Ultium EV platform. According to a Wall Street Journal report earlier this month, GM has only been producing up to a dozen electric Hummers a day. A spokesperson told the publication that the company's output will increase sharply in the second half of the year, but the automaker has over 70,000 reservations for the vehicle, and some people may run out of patience and just purchase from a reseller.

"When vehicles are quickly resold, particularly by unauthorized dealers or other resellers that do not adhere to GM's standards, the customer experience suffers and GM's brands are damaged," Carlisle said, explaining the reason behind the automaker's decision. "These changes are being implemented to ensure an exemplary customer experience, to ensure our brands remain strong, and to help prioritize ownership by brand enthusiasts and loyal customers."

In addition to these particular measures, GM also recently announced that it's giving $5,000 in reward points to customers who keep their eighth-generation Corvette Z06 sports car for a year.

Agreed. It never made sense to me that cities started pushing bicycle lanes right inbetween parking lanes and actual traffic. It just seems unnecessary and dangerous.

And that's an issue with poor policy/planning by City officials. It's not an inherent issue with bikes.
