My father died from covid in 2020 in the winter. It hasn't been easy. It's not his death per say but the fact he had to suffer in isolation for two weeks prior without family contact.

He was always there for sick family members and to help us out in times of need, but we couldn't be there for him. I'm still rather shocked. Had he went down with a stroke or a heart attack or car wreck, I think I could unpack and process it better. His passing was an extremely surreal and painful event. It has left a pretty gaping hole in our family. We had finally talked him into semi-retiring (he loved to work), and he had made arrangements for it over the course of 2020. He and my mom were both set to retire, and he never got to enjoy it the fruits of his work. My mom retired alone.

I generally cope with it ok, but I occasionally get pretty misty.

I had my break lines fail while driving before. A dear jumped out in front of me and I slammed on the breaks. The sudden increase in pressure broke the break lines. It was dead of winter and salt from the road corroded the lines.

I'll caveat it by saying I liked the non-school part of school. I liked the activities and seeing people and having fun, but I rarely enjoyed class itself.

My father kept a pump action 12 gage on hand. The other guns were kept locked up.

He kept some sort of a revolver that could fire .410 shot gun shells in his office.

His though was something that would fill a door way and sound scary but also didn't have the penetration of a handgun or rifle.

I suppose it varies by your need and home though.

I grew up loving baseball but cursed that the local team was the Pirates. One of my earliest sports memories is the Barry Bonds/Sid Bream moment in the NLCS in 92. That season was followed by a team that never had another winning season until like 2010. They had a chance around 10 years ago to win a world series but instead of building that team up after losing to the Cardinals, they actively made it worse.

Now they're a hodge-podge of nothingness.

The guy that owns the Pirates. Garbage franchise due to ownership. Team went over 20 years without even going over .500. Had like 4 good seasons like a decade ago and then quickly regressed back to garbage.

Their team is basically a quad A affiliate for the major leagues. Trade talent for prospects, if and when a prospect ever develops, unload for more prospects.
