TLJ doesn't do that. Everything it deconstruction is done purely to diminish its value, nothing more. Rey's backstory is thrown out, but not because it's actually saying anything about Star Wars' "destined lineage" trope; it's just to say "yeah, it's jot important, dummy." The grand plan of Finn, Poe, and Rose fails almost purely to be mean spirited. All of the emotional highs that make Star Wars Star Wars are undermined basically just because. And regardless of Johnson's INTENT with Luke, it's obvious that the writing just doesn't pan out - it comes across as a wholesale diminishing of a character a lot of people cherish, and it doesn't do anything to replace or rectify those s***tered feelings. The whole movie is a nihilistic treatise on pointlessness and meaninglessness, and whatever "realism" arguments you throw at it, that's fundamentally not what Star Wars is supposed to be.

I feel like some of these are just spinning what happened to be negative. Like TFA copied a lot of A New Hope, but also set it up to go in a different direction, and then people were upset when it did.

They didn't throw out Rey's backstory, they solved it. And Rey's parents not mattering is so much better than her parents actually mattering, especially with the whole movie's point is along the lines of "anyone can make a change". Rey's parents abandoning her is clearly something she has baggage over, so its a good move to make her come face to face with the fact her parents were trash and abandoned her. I wouldn't consider this "subverting expectations" its just a reasonable direction for the build up to go.

Finn and Poe's grand plan was instrumental in both Finn and Poe's character arcs, and its failure is instrumental in Poe learning what it actually takes to be a leader, and Poe deciding the rebellion is worth fighting for.

Though there was nothing Star Wars as a whole could do with Luke that would leave fans happy.

Mine was the same way. IIRC he said he used to be a drill instructor so he was a hard ass about everything in the class. He would always flaunt about how difficult the tests were going to be. I actually ended up with an A though I liked that class more than most.

Part of it was definitely me being bad at it. The chemistry classes at my uni were pretty known for "tough but fair" and the only thought I had during the actual final was "wow if I had actually been following along, this would've been a really enjoyable test"

Failed that course, and then took a different course to not need to retake it and still graduate.

I can still access some of my course websites online, and the only one from that year still there is the Organic Chemistry one. But all the resources are gone, so its only there so I can see the 15 I got on that second midterm.

Shirtless Bear Fighter. I don't need to say anything else for this one.

A Telltale style game where the actual gameplay is limited, and the focus is on story would be an ideal pick for basically every comic, but especially the really OP superheroes like Superman or Martian Manhunter that wouldn't necessarily take well to gameplay.

These f***ing people are so obsessed with trying to find "outsiders", it's so odd. Especially when they prop up rich people and charlatans in the process.

Its because everyone is fully aware the system we have doesn't actually work for like 90% of people. So its easy to get behind the person that's smart enough to actually point that out, and push for actual change. The problem is we have it set up so the people pushing for change either have no intention or are incapable of actually following through with it (see: Justin Trudeau in Canada, Obama in 2008) or are exactly the kind of people the broken system benefits and are taking advantage of people not knowing better to further break the system, which also lets them cry about how its broken and they're the only ones who can fix it.

The status quo sucks - why would you trust the people that made it that way?
