Fair. I just kept thinking about this and realized another dimension, whereas previously I was mostly defending the MCU in terms of subject matter.

You jest but TBH I honestly hate the idea of the game being primarily known for "destroying Samus's character" more than the game itself. Albeit mostly because the plot is such an unholy mess anyways, and it's still understandable if regrettable.

Not on the topic of She-Hulk, but I remembered another reason why I take issue with the whole "Marvel movies are not cinema" stance - even if the movies may not be ambitious in terms of story, they often display ambition in other ways. You'd think audiences will always head out to see comic book movies no matter how crappy they are, or that movies like The Avengers being huge events is a foregone conclusion even though that begs the question of either why Hollywood never bothered to make such a film before, or why the previous closest attempts at such a film like say The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or Van Helsing weren't anywhere near as big. Or heck, this says nothing about the effort it really takes to realize characters like Batman, Iron Man, and Captain America in film. I know Batman isn't Marvel but you get the idea.

Again, I'm genuinely concerned by this definition used by people like Scorsese. Is Jurassic Park cinema then? Are the Indiana Jones movies cinema? I've always felt like Spielberg movies are often at least as much like theme park rides as 'cinema', including his dramas, but I generally find that to be more good than bad. Are Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, and Predator cinema? Maybe I'm thinking too hard about this but still.

I have never seen The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen fully but I have seen Van Helsing. I wouldn't say the latter is good per se but it has its charms. Coincidentally Van Helsing had the same composer as most of the Avengers movies, heh.

I don't think they cared about the MCU to begin with TBH.

I know there are people who think that, it's just they're not generally perceived that way.

None of the games that have been eliminated so far are really the franchise's A-tier though. The only thing outwardly weird about this is Pinball, Hunters, and Other M lasting this long.

It was more Other M I was concerned about TBH. Maybe this seems shocking given my reputation on this board but I have a good feeling I would not like that game if I ever replayed it, which I haven't done since 2013 when the game was still relatively new. Doubt I'd find the game to be particularly terrible either but it's not like it's undeserving of being labelled such.

I think Fusion genuinely has a good story, at least for what it is anyway but I like those kind of techno-thrillers a lot. Other M just has too many subplots and plot holes and generally comes off as a confused mess as a result even if the intention is clear.

Oh well it sure as heck isn't me. Not that anyone will be convinced.

What is going on even

Based on what I've witnessed with movie fandoms, it reeks of entitlement. Whenever something 'woke' flopped, it did so because it's woke. Whenever something 'woke' hits, it actually flopped.

Thought Ragnarok was decent. The humor landed more often than it missed and I could at least kind of take the plot seriously.

I more meant it might not help the impression but fair.

Also TBH I think I jumped the gun on suggesting that the first act of No Way Home was my favorite part of the movie. That said I did think it set up Peter's overall predicament very, very well. My favorite scene might have been Norman meeting Aunt May for the first time which is technically part of that first act, but I'm just saying whatever comes to mind at this point.

I'm so dumb it took me until this year to really get it.

I only mentioned the dang RT score because I was thinking maybe that's why it seems Love and Thunder is "hated".

Probably doesn't help it has the 2nd lowest Rotten Tomatoes score for an MCU movie, ahead of only Eternals.

The only other Coens movie I've seen aside from those two is No Country for Old Men, which I also thought was great. Kind of amusing how so much of their backlog is on Disney+ where I live.

I want to say how that makes it even more unnerving people are cheering on Zaslav for cancelling the 'woke' Batgirl, but it's pretty blatant by now that to them 'political' only means catering to the left.

At least people can generally talk about Phase 4 Marvel movies in something resembling a civil fashion.

Prime 2 and 3 are really good games that don't measure up to the instant classic that is Prime 1.

You could probably count the number of bad Metroid games on one hand.

Count me as another Steve Buscemi fan. He's one of the few saving graces of Armageddon for one thing.

Basically if Buscemi isn't one of the best things about a movie it's because said movie is amazing, see Fargo and The Big Lebowski (and yes I have seen both).

IIRC Favreau specifically stated one of his main influences on Iron Man was Batman Begins, so that kind of checks out.

That's actually kind of true I guess? Mostly I get a kick out of the bad guys being a splinter faction of the Nazis too evil even for them - like Black and White morality taken to an extreme. I know HYDRA became a major part of the MCU's mythos later on though.

Black Panther 2 has a good shot, and Avatar 2 could resurrect some of the first film's magic. Other than those two, doubtful.

I guess this will come off as the standard complaining about YouTube randos on my part but it actually seems relevant in this case. At first I was caught off guard by people celebrating Zaslav's executive purge in the belief that he would restore the Snyderverse since he probably wouldn't have greenlit the Snyder cut in the first place and seems like precisely the kind of guy who'd think "Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman underperformed, this is not the right direction", but on further examination I think they simply mean that the DCEU will focus on Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman instead of "Batgirl, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman". Which is still outrageous, although I GUESS I see where they're coming from with Cavill Superman and Batffleck in limbo while The Flash is to introduce Supergirl and Wonder Woman 3 is still happening but it hardly strikes me as something that would come to mind.

I mentioned in the politics topic how I've been tempted to watch Midnight's Edge stuff if only out of morbid curiosity for their takes, only for the TITLES of their videos to put me off (mostly because they speculate on The Flash getting cancelled even though Zaslav has given every indication he believes in it) to the point where I resort to just checking out bits of their livestreams to see their take on Batgirl's cancellation...and they act like the ONLY reason people are outraged is because the lead actress is Latina. I think this might just be what has finally put me off those dumpster fires - how could someone see the state of modern Hollywood and think 'wokeness' is somehow the biggest problem? Ahead of stuff like Disney monopolizing the industry and comic book movies hogging attention...oh wait.

But yeah, the AT&T leadership which is precisely what greenlit the Snyder cut to begin with afterwards became the bad guys because they wouldn't go further with it even though pre-AT&T WB likely wouldn't have even given THAT the time of day. To say nothing of people acting like departed CEO Ann Sarnoff wanted to make everything woke, as if women think with their vaginas.

I'm not entirely willing to believe the stories about Ezra grooming younger people because that term has become an anti-LGBT buzzword now but otherwise yikes.

Morbid curiosity of an "opposing" viewpoint. Though by this point I can't even look at the titles of their non-livestream videos without feeling disgust so even THAT'S fading.

On that note I've been repeatedly tempted to check on Midnight's Edge (an increasingly far right YouTube channel that reports on genre entertainment which I used to get my news from, mentioned by me repeatedly in the MCU topic), but not only have I been turned off by their overt focus on race, gender, sexuality, and similar topics when there's so much more to talk about regarding the film industry at the very least, but their recent videos are all speculation on the possibility of The Flash being cancelled in similar fashion to Batgirl even though David Zaslav has made it clear he believes heavily in The Flash. I wound up quenching my thirst by checking out bits of some of their recent livestreams (only tiny bits at that), and the only thing I picked up was a bizarre narrative that Batgirl being canned does that movie's actors a favor somehow because it didn't test well.

That stupid YT news outlet is basically the main reason I know about people who equate leftists in general with communism, which is why it came to mind. In this case however they just act like the film industry is communist (lol) and doesn't care about making money as a result because they REALLY buy into the whole Get Woke, Go Broke narrative even though they keep citing the same few examples ad nauseam. I could go on but I'll spare the board more for now, just figured this would probably be the best topic to rant about this in. Except for maybe the parts about the DC movies.

Apparently Zaslav believes in The Flash since he says it's testing well. But I think somewhere I heard so did Batman v. Superman.

Poor perpetually underused Black Widow. At least Scarlett Johansson is somehow maintaining a stronger overall acting career than most of her Avengers co-stars (which is another reason the Black Widow salary problem pissed me off), very good for an actress pushing 40 who derives a lot of fame from playing a comic book character. Although given Black Widow is more believable (if that's the word) than most such characters and comic book movies generally being a pretty big deal nowadays it's probably more conventional wisdom spoken.

Very proud of her. By this point she probably only derives as much fame from her looks as Harrison Ford did at her age.

More meant that the "epitome of 2000's superhero movies" commented sounded about right based on what I saw.
