I haven't seen the Tulsa Watchman series but I can't imagine they would skip such an important landmark in this city. It's just too cool.

I was pleasantly surprised by the series, especially as it was filmed in 2019, a full year behind the racial unrest it tackles

Someone pointed out a while back that Jar Jar Binks and George Bush roll off the tongue in a similar way. Small one but prequel villains were all about politics. Also his appearance, he straight up doesn't look like a good guy, there are Gungans who talk coherently meanwhile he's inexplicably doing a Kermit voice and amending extra vowels to words. He's a tall dude (Oh there's also this bit where either or Qui Gon or Obi Wan says "I have a feeling there's something bigger behind this." and Jar Jar's just looming right behind him), he's got the weird Sith-looking eyes.

There's all the weird moments in TPM where Jar Jar lucks his way out of danger, or allegedly messes with people either through plain old manipulation or uses force mind tricks. He's got that freak jump into the water near the start. Some people say right at the end of the movie when he's standing next to Palpatine at Qui Gon's funeral, he smiles. I don't know if I buy it as a full on smile but his mouth does contort. He's often the cause of them stopping at places they end up needing to go too, gets himself into trouble, defuses it and presses on.

It goes with the ring theory people have. Sometimes I hear people say 1 matches up with 6 and sometimes it's 1 to 4. Either way the reveal that Jar Jar had been messing Anakin around since his youth in episode 2 would have done more for the movie than what we actually got. In 5 they reveal Vader's actually potentially got some good in him, in 2 they could have revealed that the wacky joke character is a main villain. Unfortunately the desired result fell apart fast because people initially took to him so poorly. We got a new abridged version in the next two movies where the act became his true self. The movies really don't know what to do with him in 2 and 3 where 1 clearly had ideas for him.

The big point here is Dooku being rushed into the plot to fill in the void. Lore went on to really help Dooku later on but when 2 came out he felt like some guy who just showed up for the sake of having a lightsaber fight at the end. Dooku dies in 3 and that scene had Anakin kill someone, justifying it to himself despite it not being the way the rest of the Jedi would want to do things. Count Dooku had betrayed the Jedi and beaten Anakin once before. There was also something I heard about a cut bit being Dooku arranging the death of Anakin's mother. If you take all Dooku's feats and apply them to a Sith Jar Jar, you get a much better scene. If Jar Jar had been manipulating Anakin since his youth, helped cost him Qui Gon as a master, potentially caused the death of his mother just to mess with him, dumpstered him and Obi Wan in a fight and then cut his arm off, it'd make so much more sense for Palpatine to go "Kill him, he's seriously bad news, he needs to go." and Anakin would have a much easier time agreeing and justifying it to himself. That'd also mirror the ultimatum Palpatine gave Luke in 6, except this time where Luke refused to finish Vader, Anakin very quickly decides Palpatine is right and goes for it.

I also sometimes wonder if since they lost the chance to do Sith Jar Jar, they went Aw well we'd better not let our idea for an animated character in a lightsaber fight go out the window and then made General Grievous. Grievous debuted in the 2003 Clone Wars cartoon I believe so he was probably a later idea thrown in as an amendment to the original plan going off the rails. I'm not sure what Sith Jar Jar would have used as a fighting style but the first thing that comes to mind is either one or more floating lightsabers. Something aggravatingly difficult to fight conventionally or really unfair looking would fit.

I really hope we get to see it in some capacity.

Twitter hyperbole spinning some religious adoption agency being exclusive to its own religion, into some sort of free-reign for antisemitism in Tennessee, is also not okay.

There's a flaw in the funding mechanism. Perhaps a funding mechanism that should not exist, or at least be much more obvious and stringent with its strings.
Dubya's "faith-based" initiative was a mistake.

So why not put that/your position in your post, instead of "with actual context"? The criticism (a private church accepting public money and turning away people not of their faith) remains the same...

So the majority seems to be arguing that A) the couple got the services they wanted and B) they weren't using the services for foster children in TN. Neither seem (to me) very legally sound, though the second may be more technically applicable. Still, public funds being given for this program really changes how much religious discrimination is "allowed".. iirc, churches/religious groups offering free meals/food can have a prayer but can't require people to join in

The majority ruled that the couple's complaint about the Holston Home for Children was inapplicable because they originally planned to foster a child in Florida, while Holston only handles in-state arrangements.

"The contract the Department has with Holston provides funds only for services for children' in the custody of the State of Tennessee.' For those who didn't read the article:

A couple needed to take some adoption courses, and a church was offering them but only for Christians. I believe it was a church, and the couple is jewish.

The couple then went to another org to get the courses done, but sued the church for what they did.

Court said "meh, you got the courses done, dismissed."

I'm not sure the additional details makes this better? The church is publicly funded for this program...

Conspiracy theorist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) claimed this weeks mass shooting at a parade in Illinois could have been a secret operation carried out by gun control advocates.

Two shootings on July 4th, one in a rich, white neighborhood and the other at a fireworks display, she said in a clip posted on Twitter by Patriot Takes, which monitors right-wing media.

Greene was referring to the parade shooting in Highland Park, which left seven people dead, and likely an incident in Philadelphia that left two police officers wounded.

It almost sounds like its designed to persuade Republicans to go along with more gun control, she said. I mean, after all, remember, we didnt see that happen at all the Pride parades in the month of June.

Green pushed back at how her comments have been characterizing, posting a statement on Twitter from her press office insisting that all the Congresswoman did was ask about the timing.

I can only surmise that people like Adams are what happens when people who were clever in their youth develop dementia and are only held together by the memory of their better days.

I'd put forward a theory that on a broader level people who become popular for "relating to the common man/woman" are predisposed towards believing they have equal insight into other areas of knowledge

I used to work with a woman that was going through something similar. She'd regularly meet with her abusive ex whenever she had to exchange their daughter. Only whenever they would he'd be physically abusive to her still and she couldn't get help from the police because the dude lived in an extended family home and his relatives would always back him up when the police got involved.

Over time the abuse would escalate from him grabbing her wrist to eventually him choking her. She was forced to stop coming over when he grabbed her hand and pried her finger backwards and snapped it. Then she got her mom involved to handle the exchanges and her mom could only handle going over there for that about times 3 times before she gave up to.

The police finally got involved only after the dude essentially kidnapped their daughter. She went over there to pick up her kid, the dude wouldn't let her leave, and told my coworker to kick rocks. The guy could only stand to be around his daughter for a week before he called and asked for my coworker to come and get her. When she did she discovered that the daughter had a broken arm. It caused a huge scene that spilled out into the streets and the police finally arrested the dude.

Damn... I hope his sentence was harsh

He's resigning as party leader but not as Prime Minister (yet).

Over the summer the members of the Conservative Party will vote for a new leader, and that person will take over from Boris as PM.

Technically a General Election isn't due for another two years, so whoever the Tories choose has at least that long in the job, but usually a PM who comes to power this way calls a GE sooner so that they can deflect the inevitable "the public didn't vote for you" backlash (even though our whole election system is based around us not voting for PM, but I digress). I doubt they'll call an Election straight away, because they'll want time for the Tories in general to distance themselves from the Johnson stink in the eyes of the public, but I'd guess that by next Autumn we'll have a GE.

The party can elect any MP (or peer, I believe) as their leader. The leader of the party with the majority of seats in Parliament is made Prime Minister (worth noting that the public doesn't vote for the PM, we vote for our local MP). If there's no leader of the party (as will be the case when Johnson steps down later) the current PM will continue in an interim capacity until the party choose a new leader, who then takes over.

I never felt Hank acted with malice or enjoyed making people, especially his son, uncomfortable, which seems to be the a running occurrence with the few episodes of LMS I've seen.
