First 70 degree day of the year. My cat came out briefly a couple times, but now she's staying inside, despite normally loving being out. I don't think she's sick, just an oddball.

We've got these trees out back that have these two-inch green needles instead of leaves. I don't know what they're called. But for some reason, some company came and cut off/stripped half of their lower branches, so now they've got branch stubs on one side, bare branches on the other, and untouched branches up top. Why would they do that? They just look ugly now. They may as well have chopped the whole things down.

We got a new toilet put in. This thing is a beast! Your hand barely leaves the flushing handle before it's done flushing and starts refilling. Our old one was some old thing from the 80s. It was constantly leaking water in the cistern, making a faint trickling noise and making it partially refill itself every couple of hours.

Stray is a very unique and interesting game. You're a regular cat who falls into an underground city populated by robots that act human and get caught up in their affairs in your attempts to get out. You can understand them thanks to a little robot drone buddy who's somehow able to translate for you.

The art direction is great, making the post-apocalypse look beautiful. There's lots of color and light alongside the broken, neglected environments.

Surprisingly, there's even horror. Like "fleshy shit growing on the walls" kind of horror.

I wish there was an option to select from different cat types or fur patterns. I was never really drawn to orange cats. You initially start out as part of a group of four, so being allowed to choose one of them would have been nice.

I'm also kinda confused about how intelligent the cat is. It was living a normal life on the surface, yet it can somehow understand the drone buddy's translator and do some mild puzzle solving, stuff that would certainly be beyond our cats' minds.

Also reminds me of how the Red Cross organization doesn't like when games use red crosses on medical supplies. Anything that originally had a red cross on health items would replace it in rereleases, usually with a white and red pill or a green cross. Sonic Adventure 2 had red crosses and red-white pills, but neither of those made sense, since those only appear for mech characters, so a toolkit would make more sense.

Well, killing all those monsters and beating up gods in Ragnarok was tiring, so I got Powerwash Simulator to wind down. It's a nice, relaxing game where you can take your time to hose down various buildings and vehicles back into pristine condition, with a little time-lapse video at the end of each job.

You can press a button to highlight all the dirty spots to help nail that last tiny speck, and certain objects will autocomplete when you've cleaned them around 98%. You get a few bucks every time you clean a certain object, so it encourages you to clean in segments. If you have one object left and aren't sure where it is, you can select it from the item list and it'll flash white in the environment.

There's this cute little recurring gag where there's frequently cat pawprints going through the dirt you have to clean, including on vertical surfaces and even ceilings.

Surprisingly, it's published by Square Enix, who are known for having really story-heavy games. There's even a free DLC where you clean Croft Manor (I guess the deal was in place before the Tomb Raider rights were sold). It's also getting a FF7 level pack in the future.

If you do get it, I would HIGHLY advise remapping the "toggle spray" button to the FPS shoulder button of your choice. Otherwise, you have to hold it down to spray, and I'm sure you can guess you'll be spraying A LOT. Your trigger finger will thank you.

Nice, they added Game Boy and GBA games to Switch. Unfortunately, GBA requires that expensive expansion pass. At least they have Superstar Saga on there. If they put Wario Land 4 on there, I might think about it. Thankfully they have WL3 for GB as well.

These past couple of nights, I've been half-expecting to see our male cat sitting on the landing or walking around the corner like he always did at night. But no, he's still gone for good. He really was the best thing that ever happened to me. It's the only time in my life I've ever known what unconditional love is. Sure, my family loves me, but they're naturally good people, so I didn't really have to earn their love.

Sometimes, when my brother's not here, I go into his room, hold the box with the cat's ashes, and talk to it. I hold it, kiss it, tell the cat how much I love and miss him. I hope my words are getting to him.

My brother isn't intending to get another until our current one passes. I would love to get a fresh new cat that's more eager to show affection, but first we're going to have to go through the heartbreak of losing the female cat. She may not be the cuddlebug he was, but she's made it clear she likes me. My brother's had her since 2005, so I can only imagine what losing her would be like for him.

I really like when games have your actions make immediate positive changes to the environment, instead of "Great, maybe now this place might not suck 40 years from now". Okami was great at this, clearing out corruption and restoring nature. It even happens in GoW Ragnarok, which is a great way of showing how much Kratos has matured. His old self didn't give a single shit about collateral damage, so he tore through gods that controlled important environmental things, causing those things to go haywire and really fucking the world up. Even back in the day, I found it hard to root for him.

An odd little thing about my late cat was that he never folded his ears back when you went to pet his head. Even if you touched his ears and pushed them back yourself, they'd never fold. Meanwhile, if you graze the female cat's ears even slightly, they're down in an instant.

Only Let's Game It Out could take a game about streaming and immediately find a way to escape the map, clone sellable items, and turn it into poor man's Minecraft.

My brother got a PS5 and the Dead Space remake. Lucky. Wonder if he'd let me take it for a spin and make my own file to play while he's at work. The original was the first PS3 game I'd ever gotten a platinum on and what I consider to be my sixth favorite game of all time, so I definitely wanna check out the remake.

Apparently there's a rumor of a DS2 remake in the works as well, which was also really fucking awesome. I wonder if that means a remake of 3 could happen as well. That definitely needs a revamp. EA forced the devs to include microtransactions, co-op, and to make it more actiony (even including regular, non-mutant human enemies). That turned off a lot of people (myself included), it sold poorly, and that was the end of the original series run.

EDIT: Also looks like PS5s are going for way better prices these days. Like, $550-600ish, even the ones with physical disc drives. Guess I was right about a price drop from the downfall of NFTs.

There should be an RPG where one of the weapons is a sword you hold by the blade. You'd take damage every time you swing it. The description would be "It's extremely powerful, but is painful to hold for some reason."

I haven't beaten it yet, but I'm definitely giving GoW Ragnarok a recommendation. Everything is just fantastic, from the graphics, to the combat, to the writing, and even the ways they mix things up since it's not just a Kratos/Atreus journey the whole time now.

However, there is one annoying type of oversight. You'll regularly find this resource called Shattered Runes. Since you have to gather resources to upgrade your equipment, you'll naturally assume these would be used in some kind of rune crafting. But no, they're not used in any crafting recipes at all! They're only used for selling! Nothing in their description implies that. In fact, it says they still have energy in them, which only reinforces the idea that they'll be used in crafting. These things sell in chunks of 50 for 5,000 silver, which is a really big chunk of money here, and upgrades can cost over 10,000.

There's an option in the store to sell unused stuff, and a dedicated quick-sell button for collectibles, so I wish they would have made shattered runes part of the quick-sell pool.

Found this channel called Let's Game It Out, which is about playing various games as wrongly as possible. This mostly consists of simulator and management games, especially if you're given control over what happens to employees or customers. Josh can and will spend hours on end making elaborate contraptions of suffering or seeing how far he can take an exploit.

It really annoys me when people don't put a space after an ellipses (you know...like this). It's fine if a sentence starts with one (...like this), but that's it. GoW Ragnarok also has two-dot ellipses as sentence starts (..like this) for some reason. Is that how vikings used starter ellipses or something?

So GoW: Ragnarok actually does acknowledge how you don't have your old armors. One of your dwarven blacksmith friends asks you "Hey, what happened to the other armors we made for you?" and Kratos says "They broke." Probably because of the abuse the armors went through, and Kratos not really being the type of guy to treat his possessions with care.

He asks you to take better care of your new armors and Kratos just says "No."

Also, an early boss has you seemingly fail a quicktime event and get killed, but instead of being prompted to reload, he says "It's not over until *I* say it's over!" And he fucking resurrects you so you can fight him more!

Been listening to the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack recently, and it occurred to me that it truly was one of those rare gems where everything blended together perfectly to create an enduring masterpiece. It truly was amazing to experience back in the day, when I was in middle school. Its only real issue was the English voice acting. The acting itself is good, but since English is spoken slower than the original Japanese, that sometimes leads to characters unintentionally cutting each other off, most infamously before the first Sonic/Shadow fight.

I wish more game sequels would at least try to come up with an explanation for why you can't use your old upgraded equipment at the start. God of War 2018 had you grab up quite a good few sets of armor, but GoW: Ragnarok has you start with a leather pauldron again, and even when Kratos pulls out some better armor he had stashed away, they're only mildly better than the starting one. You'd think a former god (of war, nonetheless) who is fully expecting other gods to come for him would hang on to them.

Assassins Creed: Brotherhood had a good way of doing it. The bad guys attack while you're in the bath, damaging the part of your villa where your equipment is and burying it all under rubble. Doesn't make sense for the prequel's ultimate armor, which is stated to be unbreakable, so it could have been salvaged and slapped onto a new outfit.

But they could do it wrong as well. Metroid: Other M is infamous for its excuse. Basically, you have everything, but you choose not to use it until your commanding officer says otherwise so as not to cause collateral damage. This includes several traversal options. It reaches a literal AND metaphorical boiling point where you have to spend several rooms taking damage from extreme heat before you get permission to turn your heat shield on. And that's just part of why pretty much everyone hated Other M.

Got two more youtube recs. Josh Strife Hayes and Mandalore Gaming.

They're both long-form reviewers like Civvie and Ross Scott are. Josh has a history in theater IIRC, so he's able to make his reviews more eloquent, which compliments his British accent nicely. His main channel mainly talks about MMOs and his secondary channel, Josh Strife Plays, talks about a more general variety.

Mandalore, I'm the least familiar with, but he still clearly puts the effort in, and it shows. He once spent three years trying to get these two obscure, poorly-received adventure games called Ring and Ring II (no relation to the horror property) to run on his machine.

Had a scare with the cat just now. She was pestering me to be let out, despite being 1am and under 40 degrees, so I did. Unfortunately, in the dark, I didn't see that some winds from a big storm upstate had blown our gate open, so she almost wandered out. Thankfully, me putting my arm in front of her made her turn around. But if she had decided to run, well... it's dark out and she has black fur.

We have to get a latch for that thing at some point. We've been making do with just a rock sitting in front of it.

Next day was December 12, which was 47 days.
