It is pretty weird that to complete it you have to do Rykard after the capital

youre supposed to kill the smaller dragons near the big dragon, and each one of them dying does a huge chunk of damage to the big drafon

IIRC the spiders in DS2 won't approach you if you have a torch in hand.

i found that out in time for the boss which was probably very helpful

never have I been more concerned about dying to a new boss than I was on that one. I absolutely did not want to go through that webbed cave again.

also it keeps them from attacking you, but it doesnt keep them from dropping down from the ceiling on top of you which is still quite unpleasant

but I am enjoying the part where I got an absurd giant hammer by pure chance basically ten minutes into the game that lets me just totally slam dudes to death

im in the bell ringing club which makes you automatically invade people if theyre in one of two specific locations
shockingly there are other people playing the game right now too, and Im loving just showing up as this creep with a jester mask and a giant hammer to crush people and then disappear

I am currently playing through Dark Souls 2 and was having a fine time

but Ive just arrived at the spider nightmare zone and fuck this game forever

at least with the ants in Elden ring I could basically always see them coming and pick them off before they could be a threat

these fucking spiders are ambushing me in huge groups and its not ok

I legitimately hated Demons Souls when it first launched but have now come around and was there like day 1 for the remake (or at least day 1 of me getting a PS5)

I think Elden Ring has to take the #1 spot, although theres obviously recency bias there. I just got so caught up in it, did basically everything there was to do, and even got invested in the lore in a way I hadnt really before.

went with Drowzee (which totally needs a new form or evo or something, its totally neglected), but Spoink is also pretty great

I was feeling adrift after finishing Elden Ring, so I decided to load up my in-progress Dark Souls file

i was a dex/int character wielding a katana. I never change.

anyway, I was in the catacombs and couldnt figure out what Id already done or where I should go so I quit

then I decided to start Dark Souls 2 instead, which is the only Souls game I havent played

wow theres more stats in this and its confusing!
I went with Bandit because it had 1 intelligence and that meant I definitely couldnt do my traditional dex/int thing

beat one boss so far. Feels Soulsy.

I remember someone saying there's a quest you can't do if you beat Volcano Manor - which quest is it?

basically anyone in the manor will leave it when you beat the boss, so any character there who has a quest will no longer be accessible

well I got the platinum (I think this is maybe my third ever)

Ants are always the worst. Doesn't matter that they're easy

its pretty funny. My anxiety about the ants made me so careful that I think I literally didnt take damage from them one time in the entire game.

i got through part one ok then part two went not so good

so now I just spent a bunch of time helping people out for rune arcs

Im already such a high level I should be able to handle this

I did a sweep of the map to make see what stuff I missed to give me a break from her, and now I think Ive done literally everything in the game other than this fight and the last couple story areas

Aw man, it seems like some extra story content related to Alexander got cut from the game. Datamining found some stuff (Alexander quest spoilers:)

you were supposed to be able to talk to NPCs in Jarburg and maybe give Alexanders innards to one of the jar kids there to do some other stuff

also just generally it seems like theres npc stuff that isnt totally implemented... Ive hit a dead end with a couple characters that just seems to have no follow up anyone has figured out yet

this is a totally in researched thought, but it feels like going in hard on either dex or strength is the wrong move because you can just go in hard on faith or int and get a weapon that scales with one of those, + then you get the benefit of being able to cast better spells

Theres some good stuff to craft if you can get the right books. Having instant access to any element of bolt/arrow is nice and crafting the status effect healing items is super useful

and theres like thirty other recipes Ive never touched

The ashes are such a major mechanic with there being so many of them, I definitely think the designers expect you to be using them all the time when you can.

I bet theres more keys in the game than you actually ever need just based on there definitely being more Golden Seeds in the game than youre ever going to need.

Any cookbook or note, and I think a lot of the equipment, you find at a merchant is only going to be available from that merchant. You have to buy them if you want them.

For me, something weird happened and Ranni wasnt where she was supposed to be when I initially went there. I think maybe it was because I had gone to Radahns castle first and made Blaidd show up there, but I dont know.

but beating Radahn solved the issue and she showed up. I had definitely beeen to the capital at this point, so its not a problem

hello here is a hot tip for you and yours

you know those invisible assassin guys who are a boss one time and also in that town outside the Haligtree and maybe elsewhere?

theres a torch you can buy from the hermit merchant shack merchant that makes them visible

other hot tip: I dont remember where I got them, but the Bloodhound Claws are super useful because they have a extra good version of Quickstep that maybe is actually faster than running always (not sure), but is definitely faster than running or backstepping when youre in lava or a swamp or whatever that impedes your ability to run

it was super helpful in a couple of the super annoying Heros Graves

I think that is a legitimate issue with this game

Im not saying it needs a super explicit quest log, but they need to give you some reason to even begin to think that the place you have to go is the place you have to go

i helped Matilda or whatever with her scarlet rot and she was just like ok I gotta go do my adventure now and gave literally no indication of what that is or where it would take her

turns out she went to some random part of the Altus plateau and I stumbled into her there, but then she said more vague stuff and left and for some reason the next place she goes is the top of the windmill town, which is a totally optional area totally out of the way of anything else that I had already explored and would have no reason to go back to

how would I ever know to look for her there without looking up a guide

i just looked it up because I was getting annoyed, its basically as north as possible on that beach. A door in the cliff that basically blends in

yeah that Gaol is basically just his first form. It doesnt do the dragon hand.

2 Crystalians was a lot more annoying than I thought they would be.

theres a cave in Caelid with three Crystalians that cause scarlet rot as the boss

Im strong enough to tear through most stuff in the region at this point, the whole cave leading up to the fight was no problem at all... and they were maybe the hardest battle Ive dealt with in the whole game. It sucked.

yeah the actual story progression in Lyndell is all above ground

in the intro when they called him the Loathsome Dung Eater I assumed he was just some kind of pathetic weirdo, but uh yeah. Nope, totally a monster.

Oh that teleporter is for a place youre supposed to go after you clear the actual castle out... theres a totally different direction into the castle youre meant to go.

the area you got to the bridge from has another exit. If Im understanding the situation right, youve barely scratched the surface of the castle.

I mean theres probably like three more grace points you havent found in there

oh lol definitely go back to the grace point for the volcano boss after you beat him to see something weird going on (or maybe not, it may depend on some decisions you make earlier on... but Im seeing something weird going on.

they give these impassioned speech about how mad they are at a tree and some fingers

I also literally just beat him like ten minutes ago. After beating no demigod for days, I knocked out two of them today (volcano guy and capital city guy)

im also basically level 100ish

the city guy dropped like 100,000 runes, which was maybe 1 and 3/4 levels for me. I have absolutely no idea what level they expect you to be at this point.

if Sages Cave is what Im thinking of, there was a note outside the boss door that said like wolves needed ahead so I summoned the wolves and it helped a lot

The Dung Eater offered to kill me and defile my corpse

so thats neat, might take him up on it
