So all AAA games don't have chance at actual or legitimate acclaim because they will be bought out? This is just absurd, and sounds like what someone would tell themselves to convince themselves that something that they don't like isn't actually good.

Well, I guess we can also throw this back on you and say that aLttP's and OoT's acclaim and accolades were bought out as well. Upon release of both, Nintendo was the biggest developer in the world. However, I won't actually be ignorant and discredit Nintendo for what they achieved like you've selfishly chosen to do with Rockstar. A simple Google and doing some homework will quickly show you what impact GTA 3, SA, RDR and GTA V has had on the gaming community in the last decade. Heck, Hideo Kojima has specifically said that RDR is the only reason he's still making video games now days. Guess your next claim will be that Kojima isn't a big deal, yet Sony just gave him the biggest check of any devs life and awarded him his own studio, as to make sure no one else snatched him up. Multiple huge producers and directors at Nintendo have each given huge praise to RDR as well.

Making the claim that Rockstar is the greatest might be taking it to far, but lets not act like the whole gaming industry isn't turning their head anytime Rockstar makes a game announcement or drops new content.

I really hope 1998 won because of the help from Pokemon and Metal Gear Solid.

Those 3 games alone make it hard pressed for any year ever to surpass it. Honestly though if we're looking at ground breaking achievements in the game industry 1998, 2001 and 2004 should have taken the cake.

It was pretty disgruntling to see 1994 beat out 2004. In that case, for that battle, quantity outweighed quality. Because you could argue that 94 had the best individual games. But the sheer mount of great games that dropped in 2004 is enough to say that it was better. The ideas and concepts that were used in games in 94 aren't in place now days. Games that dropped in 04 are still going strong and a lot of ideas that were used are still in place now.

10 years later, were any of the best games of 2004 even similar to those of 1994? Nope, not only that but many of the mechanics and ideas from the games listed in 2004 are still being used today for new games.

Heck, by 2001 the console Metroid games went fps to stay relevant and Sonic had to go full 3D.

Oh yeah, none of them beat out those 2d side scrolling games and insanely outdated JRPG games . Every major series listed there besides FF from 1994 is either dead or right there near it. FF doesn't have acclaim on its side anymore. You're deluded if you think otherwise .

Don't get me wrong, it was a good year. But it's not had the impact on gaming that 2004 had at all.
