I think the issue (If there is one) is that they're putting someone like Kate in the commentary booth at EVO, and not something on the level of WNF, which would be at least more acceptable. I also played sports a ton until college--mostly soccer and basketball--during which I eventually moved to weightlifting. Liking e-sports came naturally, since I always loved video games and Street Fighter was always around in arcades when I was younger.
