It wound up working for the Cubs because they were pretty complete except they needed a closer. They also had a super deep farm system. So yeah, then it's more okay to overpay when you're rolling in prospects.

The Mets are far from complete- their biggest current need is a closer (and their starters to get healthy and on track so they can go 7 innings so the bullpen isn't taxed as fuck), but that is true for any team that has lost its closer.

The hype for this season was not unjustified. We are just so snakebitten, its unreal.

I know almost all the 2016 playoffs teams are doing poorly right now. Unfortunately the Nats aren't one of them .
And most unfortunate, all (or most?) of those teams have clear paths to recovery right? Jays are playing well again, and all of those teams either have their good players to rely on coming back from slumps, or returning soon from injury. Not the Mets. There are too many injuries to recover from this time, and they are all too long-term. Especially Familia. There is no way to replace what he brought to this team. The minors are barren of pitching talent, and there is no one good to trade for, who you won't be able to get aside from selling the farm, which is stupid to do for a reliever.

I say I'll be satisfied for life by one ring but 5 years out I'll be dying for more? Maybe?

As a NY Giants fan, I feel set for a little while still on super bowl rings. But i also care way more about baseball obv. I'd like to be able to say "hey at least we won last year" as a fallback for when things go wrong. Would've been nice in 2016 to be able to say that.

I mean, having a good enough team to get to the playoffs is one thing that is a lot more reliable, but it's so random once you get there it's hard to ask for mutliple in a short period. Not saying I wouldn't crave it though...

But for real, if your concern is being hit by a ball, then maybe just don't purchase a seat in an high risk for foul ball area? There's no need for netting down the line. Behind home plate, sure no shit.

Or at least if you're going to force netting you need to first make it unobstructive because it sucks ass to look through netting.
