I am only at the end of May but I have no issues with characterization and pacing. Although it is definitely way more plot arc driven based on the current target, so that might get a bit formulaic. P3/4 didn't feel like that as much, but in hindsight I guess they did have a similar structure as well.

It's kinda amusing how the game fails to take romance into account. Like, even if you max out Ann and romance her, you can talk about what kind of girl you like in front of her on the trip and go to hit on other women and she doesn't even react.

And if you mean 'you're tired of playing the game by then so who cares' then that's a whole other, much deeper problem that shouldn't be brushed aside because you should never get tired of playing a game to the extent you just want to not play it anymore

The game is 100 hours long. Even if you absolutely love the combat, 100 hours of the same gameplay WILL get stale, unless you're super motivated by extrinsic rewards and don't really care about the gameplay itself like SHINE.

That might be a fundamental flaw of the game, or of JRPGs in general, but I don't think it makes the whole game bad. ESPECIALLY if they specifically put in ways to skip the repetition towards the end, so you can choose how much you want to keep going, which Persona always does. Plus, the important thing is the context of the combat inside the larger year-long daily life loop, which is highly addictive and always changing and interesting. Plus this game adds palaces which are super cool even if you ignore combat.

Games with deeper gameplay can be played for thousands of hours because as you get better at the game, there are more complex nuances revealed, and the gameplay basically transforms into another game. JRPGs like never have that, which is just part of the genre. They don't have the advantage of metas and player competition like multiplayer games.

SP and money is very difficult and well balanced in the beginning... I think that's fine. Difficulty isn't as important later in the game since you're likely tired of the grind by then. As long as individual boss fights are difficult, it still feels epic.

I mean I always get tired of Persona dungeons after like... 40ish hours, so that will probably happen with Mementos as well

But it's just surprising that there's a full dungeon system in there, and the fact that it's optional makes it feel way better... unless there's some forcing later?

Pollen Mementos is sooooo OP. So much equipment and money.

I'm surprised at just how similar it is to P3/4 dungeons though. I heard it was similar, but I figured it would be way more minor since there's already the palaces. But instead it's a complete mode in addition to the palaces... hard to think that previous Personas only had this mode. The presentation is really cool too. The color changing is awesome even though it screws up some graphics, and the roadtrip-style comments really make it more fun.

I like the beginning of arc 2 though. They really picked some interesting social issues to highlight in the villains (and the confidants, who are all uniquely shitty), hope that keeps up throughout the game.
