I found that Maria of Austriain Civ V, rivals Venice with city states, was just playing around with her and ended up with a not so great map (long snakey islands). Didnt care for the other rulers either, ( Elizabeth, Dido, Theodora, Cathrine, Isabelle, the mother of China, and Washington) though i ended up have friends with everyone but china and defensive pacts with all but isabelle and China.

I just started playing this and as someone who played way back when (played dual academy on the gba) i love how it doesn't over load you all at once.

Few questions:

How rare are gems given in game?
And did starting character really matter? (i picked kiba)

I think part of the problem was i was stuck in a very bad area, and i had literally one sea route and one land route

To kind of give you an idea, my first era or so im generally setting up a science and culture gennerator the start working on other things while just exploring. I really dont focus to much on military till later usally midevil or industrial eras

Was going for a political win with England in civ 4 and ended up getting a science win like 3 turns before that.

Also anyone ever notice that if your num1 in ratings and are buddy buddy with no 2 the last place person almost always demand that you break ties with them... Like to the point of every 5 turns almost

Started a random map in civ 5, ended up with an archipelago map (ugh!) and may dormens are going in random directions while exploring... Something tells me Brazil will be my bested best friend as long as i keep giving them handouts
