I expressed it perfectly fine in my post; that if you're going to make up your own religion anyway, why adhere to established religion at all? It was a passing thought and a joke about Henry the 8th, not a scientific thesis. |

Sure, Muslim people should have the same rights as every other religion, but I can't really sit here and say that 100% of the Muslim people I've talked haven't turned out to have been terrible people in some way or another. And when I see religious people who are like "I'm a blank, but I don't believe in blank, blank and blank" from their religious book that they think is written by God (or just his buddies) that literally says "if you don't take this whole thing all the way literally than **** you!" like three times I just shake my head. Why not just make your own religion up in the first place? You're already half way there, King Henry the Eighth. |

And they both have their achievements stolen by others who people universally love, and the public at large considers them both super scrubs. It's a common trope in everything from superhero fiction to fantasy to sci-fi, and probably it's own self-contained thing. Future Trunks probably would be considered a hero to his own people, but it's not so much a 'secret' in the future so your missing that element. |

| PerfectChaosZ 04/15/17 12:43:46 PM #49 | They had the Great Saiyaman to contrast Goku vs Superheros (Gohan stopping petty crimes, which Goku doesn't, or at least not since DB, which judged by that standard would make him a superhero). They've also got their parody Superman character who shows up to fail. It usually contrasts the costumed heroes as simply not being up to the task like Goku is, like a distinction between Batman and Superman, not that he isn't a superhero. He destroys world destroying threats and saves the universe all the time. He has his own reasons, but so do many heroes. His origin is even a direct reference to Superman. Your description of the Suicide Squad would be wrong because they are in way shape or form superheros. They're a supervillain team controlled by the government. People would be even more confused by describing them as superheros. And I agree, like I said before, you need a modern city setting for an anime character to be considered a superhero because that's the only place superheros exist. Elric or whatever need not apply. In a fantasy world they're just legendary heroes, more akin to mythology and legend types or just in general fantasy tropes. |

But Goku or Great Saiyaman (even more), One Punch Man, Sailor Moon, Tiger and Bunny, even someone like Yusuke Urameshi or Shinichi Izumi. They all have the trappings of a superhero, most of the tropes of a superhero. Fighting crime/saving the world, a secret identity that must be protected, etc.. |

| PerfectChaosZ 03/24/17 3:53:51 PM #411 | Tara broke up with her, then died right after they got back together, she became a dark sorceress and nearly destroyed the world, got oschterized from her friends and probably never recovered the closeness they had, got tortured by an invisible guy and she was "drugged" out of her gourd in the first place from magic. All of the magic stuff is one big punishment from beginning to end. "You should use your magic more responsibility! Oh you didn't? Oh." I liked Xander best when he had his fears (the musical episode) but was willing to face his fears and be a better man than his father. But nope, he waited till the last minute, got all of her friends together and broke her heart because some random yahoo told him to, by his own will. And then nothing. He choose to break it off so him losing Anya and becoming single isn't a punishment like it was for Willow, it's what he wanted. And he has at least one date later in the show so he's not devoted to being single (especially not in the comics..). It seems like he doesn't care one bit. He's even back to browbeating Buffy about her relationships and acting all possessive over her like he does (gross) by the next episode I think. It's at least in the next few. Zero repercussions. Even his friends don't care all that much. They never even liked Anya. |
