i still doubt i'll make it to 40 but i am open to being pleasantly surprised

I had a history teacher in high school (coincidentally, 10 years ago I was in his class) who said he didn't thinl he'd make it to 40. He was like 37 then. But sure enough he did make it to 40. In his case it was more like he wasn't sure if he wanted to be that old though, not that he thought any malady would prevent him from reaching the milestone.

Ten years ago, I was finishing up 12th grade. I thought that today I would have a math PhD and be teaching at some decent university. I also thought I would have made at least one small but meaningful contribution to mathematics and that I would also teach part-time at a high school and help out with their math club since I enjoyed math club when I was in high school.

In actuality I dropped out a few semester after the Master's (without getting the PhD) and though I do work in math education and enrichment I am not currently teaching at any university or high school. Lately I have been planning to transition more into programming than math, but I haven't done enough of that, so it's hardly even worth mentioning about present me.

If the question were about 5 years ago, then I would've dropped the high school math club part and would've said I'd be teaching Community College with far more interest in teaching than in math research. Five years ago I would've at least known I'd be in the Seattle area, whereas 10 years ago that would not have been in my vision.

What did the you from 10 years ago think your life would be like today (10 years after 10 years ago).

Was the prediction accurate?

Would your answer change dramatically if the question was about 5 years instead of 10?

I'm not a fan of camping, but if you happen to be near Seattle I'm fine hanging out somewhere urban or semi-urban and discussing stuff.

Heck, we could even go hiking in one of our many areas call nature even though it's surrounded by semiurban sprawl.

Not if the rich first created robo-police to secure their power and keep the poor in situations resembling S1 Ep2 of Black Mirror (or wose, just let the poor die off without caring at all).

I'm a little worried at some point when the rich have enough technology to aid them that climate change and overpopulation will be "solved" by getting rid of the non-rich.

Are you feeling OK?

I have a bachelor's degree, and I hardly even had to try or go to class. It was so easy.

I had a similar situation with my Bachelor's, but later in life I now regret that I didn't try. I don't think I handled the whole college opportunity the way it was supposed to be handled.

just to be clear

when you remove the bandage, wounds don't heal. they fester, and then you die of gangrene.

the people who work less, produce less, and have more kids than the rest.

I can't speak for other low-on-work-and-money people, but personally I see having kids as a financial impossibility. It seems like something that (absent of government support and/or just shit-poor living conditions) only the rich would be able to afford.

Wait a second, are CEmen really arguing against dropping this bomb on an ISIS stronghold?

I'm fine with him bombing ISIS

But was the first use of the largest non-nuclear bomb ever really necessary?

i can just imagine Trump right now:

Trump: What's the largest bomb we have taht's not nuculur?
General: Uh. We have an MOAB but it's not necessary for this kind of strike. And it's never even been deployed before. We don't even know the fallout from that kind of detonation.
Trump: But...we can use it right? And it's NOT a nuculur bomb right?
General: That's correct? But sir, there's plenty of smaller bombs that will get the job done more efficiently.
Trump: But I want to use the big one...and be the first.
General: Alright...

XD

And nice touch with "nucular".

They don't ban you for this stuff anymore. I think it was during the massive wave of updates with the profanity filter, but it might have been one or two mass updates before then.

Hmmm. Actually now that you mention it I do recall them lightening up on this. Still, it's possible. But it has been 3 days without it happening.

The sad thing is, you're going to get banned for this.

Yes, because we the American people and people of the world will not have companies knowingly advertise to children using information they've knowingly collected from them, but once you hit 13 suddenly it's perfectly fine for companies to do all that.

Tbh it would be theoretically nice if COPPA's protections of personal information applied to teens and adults online too, but if that happened then the current "free" model of the Internet couldn't viably exist.

/rant

Anyway, yeah, TC, that question mark in your OP is probably taking it too far, and you'll likely be banned. You could appeal the ban by showing GameFAQs your ID, but if that's an alt account then I can't imagine you'd care enough to do that to get the account back - maybe, maybe not.

Put me down as voting for MariaTaylor in this debate / discussion / series of semi-sarcastic remarks.

As for the initial post of this topic, sure, I would rather live in a world where technology does more work for us than it does now. I have reservations that the Earth may accidentally be turned into a giant paperclip factory (reference for the joke: http://www.salon.com/2014/08/17/our_weird_robot_apocalypse_why_the_rise_of_the_machines_could_be_very_strange/ ) or that once technology does solve the labor problem the majority of humans will no longer be needed by those with power over the technology (and may in fact be counter-productive because those in power may finally wish to "solve" global warming and overpopulation), but if I get to be around and doing things I enjoy in this world TC is proposing, I'm all for it.
