Yeah this is true for me also.

Also to me at least I always just like to vote for my favorites in these topics regardless of how many or few votes it has. To me these topics are a lot more about just showing support for my favorite songs than they are for trying to get X or Y song to be the overall victor of the poll.

I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum. Pretty sure I'm already effectively out seeing as I have the same bracket as hylianknight, but he has a much more reasonable tiebreaker than me based on yesterday.

I mean if you value the story and characters more than playing the game then yes I can see that but that's just not me. Still pretty good though!

To be fair I kind of assume in general that JRPG fans fall into the story >= gameplay camp, and I feel that's a good assumption on this board even if not anywhere else.

Even speaking in terms of gameplay I feel like Trails in the Sky is up there even if it's not the best of the best. (Though I guess you can't be in it just for gameplay because there's a lot of story interrupting that regardless)

Trails in the Sky is a candidate for greatest RPG of all time, whereas Trails of Cold Steel is just a pretty good game, so I think that's a pretty good reason to play TitS before ToCS even if you don't technically have to for the story.

There is also an order that is relevant. It's just not that relevant. (Although it's looking to become noticeably more relevant as the series continues)

Also for Mac, Zero and Azure take place at the same time as Cold Steel and both have events that impact the other, and I believe I read in an interview they were designed to be played in either order. (ie. Cold Steel then Crossbell Arc, or the reverse) If I remember when I get home I'll try and find the source. So they are important but not essential either, at least not for Cold Steel 1 and 2.

I'm starting the 4th arc and the cast interaction is fine. The cutscenes are fine, the group events are fine, the text messages are fine. Y'all just bustas.

I like it when he's descriptive about things that matter. The problem is that half the time in Umineko when he goes into that mode it's about something like the various ways a character could or could not have entered into a potentially closed room, and it just doesn't add anything to the story at all--at least for me.

If they're going in the same order as in the "notable games" thing next to the years in the bracket, I think the first game will be the strongest in the majority of cases at least. (and in particular it would be the case for the two years I mentioned, which is probably the ones that would stand to benefit most from this other than maybe 2015)

You sort of answered your own question about 1997 here. If you ask me, 1997 is basically a one-game-year also. Goldeneye has some strength, but I don't think it's anywhere near what this board makes it out to be. There's also SotN, but that's not really a super powerhouse either, and I expect it will have a decent amount of overlap with FFVII anyways.

Basically I think having a lot of good games that cover many different fanbases (this second part is key) is a lot more important than having one really strong game. I don't even have 1997 making it that far since I have it losing to 2000 (which I expect should be close), but if it makes it to 2001 I'm expecting it to lose handily.

Ok, I'll probably do this more or less (see below) right after VGMC ends then since it sounds like most people don't really care. (which I guess makes sense since I'm the only one doing any real listening)

Though, I don't know how the timing works out, but I'll probably wait until after the main site contest ends to start. I don't really want to run nominations while that's going on since the topic will be harder to find, and any randoms that decide to nominate probably wouldn't stick around. Also, as much as I complain when you guys do stuff like kill Aurora's Theme or Ar-ciel Ar-manaf, I do actually generally like B8's taste in video game music quite a bit. Plus, the knowledge that this board has on the subject is far far higher than the average person, which means more variety which is always good.

Yeah I also like Merciless Savior. It probably wouldn't be in top 10 if I did a list like this, but it is pretty good. Shame no one in VGMC seems to think that though. :(

I still don't know why all these other Falcom songs (most of which I don't care much for) seem to do really well but then Merciless Savior flopped hard. Oh well whatever, B8 killing my favorite songs is nothing new I guess.

The only Fire Emblem game I've played was Path of Radiance, but a lot of FE songs (including Id: Purpose) in these contests are solidly tier 2 for me.

Man I love how part time jobs work in the Persona universe. Signed up for a part time job in April and then showed up for the first time in August. Not only did I still have the job, but the store owner just responds with a completely amicable "oh you're here! Let me show you the ropes!"

Welp. Just went through and it looks like I'm up for elimination on day 2 here. Unless I'm mistaken or they've changed something, both @PSI_NESS and @charmander6000 have the same bracket as me except I have 1985 in the second match and they have 1987. This should be "fun".
