Really my gripes stem from I don't like how you progress the world. That's both in map design and character growth. Video games are tough because I also tend to separate story from gameplay a lot, and favor the latter when I talk about how good it is. I'm a "FFX hater" but most of the reason people love it is the story stuff which I also agree is great. I think I'll enjoy XII and XIII more than the average B8er based on who likes and dislikes them and for what reasons. --- |

So he kinda doesn't amount too much and isn't woven into the main fabric of the story that well, and he exits in an underwhelming fashion. --- |

Togashi has repeatedly said he prefers villains over heroes, and you can see it in YYH with Toguro and Sensui. HxH just takes it to the next level. And it's not like either of these works lacks great heroes either. But yeah FFVIII is amazing without a particularly great villain. Sometimes circumstance/environment/innerflaws can be the ultimate antagonist too. --- |
