She wants you to be strong enough to lift her.

There's a thought. I think the term is 'OHP eat out'? ;)

Failing that, you can start giving her piggyback rides which is always endearing.

that both he and his boyfriend are blessed individuals.

I, otoh, am a human furnace. nighttime cuddles can only happen a few nights out of the year else I'm sweating and uncomfortable. I must provide affections from afar :(

The thing with Persona 3 and 4 is that they got milked to hell so most people who are tangential to the series have heard of it.

Between the fightning game, PSP re-releases, Dancing game, Persona Q, and anime series (partially available on netflix). P5 is mostly just riding that wave.

Usually when stuff gets too popular it's ruined.

To a small extent, yes. It's more apt to say it gets 'casualized', but remember this is Atlus so they're pretty good about not catering to the masses. So far the only casualization I'm seeing in P5 is a button shortcut to attack an enemy's weakness and saferooms mid dungeon. Both of those are improvements imo.

most of the stuff you mentioned was before my time.

That's kind of the point. Monty Python and Pink Floyd were old in even the 90's. Part of being a nerd is eschewing Plebeian pop culture and opting for older, quirkier things that weren't fully popular even when they were current.

- Sub out "Jay Z" for a more popular, current artist like Drake or the Weeknd or something.
- Net Nexus is pretty much defunct. I can't think of a modern equivalent. Maybe frequenting some niche subreddit.

Still, when being a nerd becomes partially mainstream, it results in an identity crisis because we can't reject the mainstream when we ARE the mainstream. Best we can do is hate on 'fake' nerds like bro gamers. See also: that handshake then handwash meme.

So the consensus is that this is not satire? I legit couldn't tell when I posted the article.

It's hilarious but I think the author is speaking in earnest. Which makes it not only hilarious, but also sad and a little scary that someone might listen and agree with him.

Did you marry her?

No ._. We went to different colleges and I was a crappier person back then that couldn't do the long distance thing. I'm now engaged to someone who has many of the same qualities as her but is quite the nerd himself (plays Touhou on Lunatic) so I don't really need to... hide my power level nearly as much, if at all.

Which is probably the one silver lining to nerd appropriation. People can show off their Harry Potter replica wands (e.g.) without fear of derision. Actually, nah. If you're gonna LARP I'm still interally judging you. Nerd on nerd hate is significantly worse than normie on nerd hate.

spent your entire night painting 15 Warhammer 40k miniatures to match the Space Marine chapter you created in your 30,000 word Warhammer 40k Fan Fiction, then awkwardly told this all to a girl you like over IM (since lol @ face to face communication), thinking that this would make you look dedicated and creative and not like a giant fucking weirdo

My high school girlfriend googled me one night when we were dating and she found my Final Fantasy Tactics Challenge FAQ. After less than two seconds of silence (read: 5 minutes of internal panic and screaming) she said she liked it. It was mostly greek to her but she liked the formatting and organization and stuff.

Oh, you like Marvel movies and you read Harry Potter? What a total geek lol. You basic fucking bastard.

I think I first noticed the phenomenon in.... 2009? Maybe 10. I stumbled onto the 'nerdfitness' blog while looking into a bodyweight routine. The featured articles almost read like a horoscope -- a giant, disorderly, shotgunned mess of references from all sorts of scifi/fantasy in an attempt to get the reader to connect with the writer. In my case it had the opposite effect because he came across as a try-hard who just read the cliff notes.

His intentions are pure, so I don't want to bash the site too much, but there was a shocking lack of depth with any of his analogies. It's like he watched a New Hope once and then fluttered to the next realm a real nerd suggested he be acquainted with.

For example, from a random article:

"Remember playing Mario Kart, racing past your friends going for the item box, hoping for red shells or star power. Instead, you suddenly explode; it wasn’t a powerup, it was a trap!"

- The "it was a trap" is a hyperlink to Admiral Ackbar in Return of the Jedi.
- If you're passing your friends and in a high player rank, the odds for red shells or star power is abysmally low.
- What sort of nublet falls for those trap blocks? I mean really. They're mines that get placed in commonly treaded areas but it's usually easy to tell in a row of evenly spaced boxes the one that's just wedged inbetween them

The universe needs to stop making me want a ps4

It's available on the ps3 too.

The ps4 version is a port with slightly better graphics, but the difference isn't worth getting a brand new system. At least, that's my plan. PS3 master race.

I'm stoked, but have social obligations tonight. I'll seek it out and fire it up tomorrow :D Hopefully a brick and mortar place near me has a copy.

Self titled in '13 had some good tracks. They definitely peaked with Is a Real Boy though
