I'm still a bit lost as to why Dover needed to betray Gustavia when the deal could have simply been something like 'you can do whatever you want with the meds, just let me have a dose and I'll be happy'. It would take a special brand of despicable person to backstab Gustavia the second they felt they could get away with it, particularly when the potential murderer looks like they probably know 10 kinds of martial arts.

Ah, I did not give Gustavia enough credit, it is explicitly stated that he shaved the lamp to remove the blood from it. I am sure there are still plenty of nitpicks one could make with this case, but this at least is an easily resolved issue.

"He was the one who drew first blood, I simply gave him his just desserts!"

If there was aaaaaany lingering doubt at what level of scumbag we're dealing with here...

Trusty Gumshoe with the vital evidence! What a pal!

The blood...is Gustavia's? For Miles, this apparently solves everything.

I question if a rock salt lamp would truly cause such an alteration to the taste of a sherbet sculpture, but I could believe there would be traces....just not enough for Delicia to comment on.

It is enough to get the scary pastry guy to confess at least to his crime. What Gregory and Karma could not have known all those years ago is finally come to light.

I wonder if the amount of time spent training in Zheng Fa will be relevant in a few moments. please say yes!

Oh no...the son came up until the finals and that is when the flavor vanished. And Gustavia has no sense of taste. I think I see what is about to happen here...

Yuuuup, Gustavia's son operated as a taste tester....making the father possibly guilty of some kind of diabetic crime if nothing else.

This guy wasn't quite at horrible levels before, sure he probably murdered a dude over some disagreement, but that's pretty common and hard to really get worked up over. But now we learn that he's pretty much a soulless monster willing to disown his son the second he gets a whiff of a cure. What a heartless jerk! Not even Courtney can refute his bad parenting!

Granted, not much was learned there other than the pastry chef had a taste disorder. Does that really further team hero's case when there is already plenty of motive to desire the world's greatest pastry chef title? I guess you could say there was a point of disagreement in how the book should be applied, but would Dover's dreams of riches not help out Gustavia too? Where is the fallout?

Maybe that sort of issue will be explored in this sudden testimony round. I thought we might have been finished here, but this is the case that keeps on giving and giving and giving and giving.

The secret hint for this testimony, aside from Ray suggesting we press the dude until he breaks, is to remember everything that happened 18 years ago. Simple, really!

The rush of logics come to a head with the establishing that there was indeed a time the murder could happen...afternoon tea. To that end, Miles enters logic chess mode to get Gustavia to spill the beans. This smacks of finale to me, everything should come to a head here...there just isn't anywhere else the case could reasonably go I think.

...this freak has 4 chess pieces. Not bad for a geezer recently recovered from a brush with death.

One piece gets blown up, and suddenly the old man pulls the 'maybe I should go back to the infirmary...' card.

Another down...he was indeed after that recipe book!

Turns out his son was ill...just one more to go!

It was Gustavia and not the son with the illness! In this case about food, there is a surprising amount of i-can't-taste-anything-itis going around!

PIC Courtey naturally allies herself with Gustavia. There always feels like a bit of a disconnect whenever she calls Miles things like a driveling prosecutor, because he oozes so much confidence and general competency that any attack on his character kinda has the opposite effect.

Like some kind of Truth Paladin, Miles is relentless in pursuit of his ideals. But there is no direct evidence to offer to disprove Gustavia's words (which makes game sense, as it didn't present it as a testimony). No, the trick this time is a logic bomb, we have to jiggle some facts around until some truth is jostled loose. I'm just happy some of the smaller details like the hand marks and camera film amount are going to matter finally!

To get to Gustavia, we have to go through Courtney and her PIC logic.

The case seems to be fully investigated in her eyes (although is this not always the case with Ace Attorney foes?). Only Miles' objections stand in the way, and only then if we can find the right path to the truth.

Poor Gustavia...he checks out of the story for a while, and by the time he recovers, everyone discovers he's secretly the murderer of a bunch of years ago. A sudden shock like that could kill someone you know!

He laughs it off though, what a champ! But he probably really is the murderer here, too much plot is pulling that way. What an evil champ!

Not sure how much effort I want to put into something like this, but I feel contractually obligated to claim Ice for some reason...

Name: Vilen Ilyushin
Element: Ice
Race: Elf
Class: Wizard
Background: Hailing from the northern parts of whatever generic fantasy land this is, Vilen comes from a distinguished family of illusion specialists. He feels strongly that there is a great disparity of wealth between those who labor and those who benefit from that labor, and through ritualistic gifting of presents strives to correct this.

It is an evil soviet christmas elf, but fantasy-ized. Don't read too much into it, alright? I was operating under the assumption that Elements of Destruction would be bad guys, but if this is not the case, he can easily be spun into a heroic figure and then his name is just ironic.

Don't really care about either of the first match options, but I've seen Boogie on the Cooptional Podcast, and think he's an alright guy.

I actually thought about nominating SGSA, but thought against it due to it being essentially a dead channel. Lots of comedy gold. I don;t think Stephen Universe memetastic animations will prevail here.

A turbonerd MTG channel vs Music Jesus. I think Smooth McGroove is a bit too highly rated, but there is no universe in which he doesn't win here. He's one of the few channels that seem like a shoe-in for top 8 in this tournament. I just wish he had a bit more variety than 'bah', but other than that, his work is solid.

Guys, it was once estimated that there's a 60% chance we're living in a computer simulation, based on how long it took our civilization to develop computer simulations.

Now, if you accept the fact that the higher universe our simulation resides in doesn't necessarily have the same physical limitations our simulation does, that chance jumps over 90% at least.

In fact, the "simulation" wouldn't necessarily have to reside in a computer at all.

I myself always thought it was more probable that our universe came from somewhere rather than nowhere, because the rules of our universe state that things have to come from somewhere. Still have to wonder where the higher universe came from though. Maybe in the future we'll create it so it can create us? >_>

We've got a total of one observable universe that we know of. Trying to assign a probability that it may or may not be a simulation is, at best, an interesting distraction. It is like trying to assign a probability to the existence of a god. There are far too many unknowns to make the numbers work in any meaningful manner. Even if we had 100% certainty that there was a universe that created ours, it would just push back the creation of universes issue back a layer and at some unknown point there would be a prime universe. Sure, you can posit an ouroboros type deal like at the end there, but then that just makes 'simulation' a pretty meaningless term.

As for life after death, I'd say any conjecture is doomed to insufficient data, including nothing, although nothing is what seems to be most consistent with reality as we understand it.

Finally watched the episode. Very solid episode for the Goku/Krillin dynamic. So often sidelined, but he was the original rival. I was gonna make some comment about him being quite the tactical one, but that's pretty much everyone not named Goku. I really liked how these small matches highlighted the fact to Goku that if he just runs in guns blazing, he's gonna get curbstomped by a collective alliance pretty fast. He'll probably still be prime target #1, so I imagine it will be up to the thinkers of the team to strategize around that. At the very least, it should be an interesting situation to watch unfold as the numbers shift and alliances are formed/broken.

And yeah, 17 hypppppe!

Achievement Hunter
Errant Signal
Previously Recorded

I'm not much of a gag person, and the channel has way too many faces on every video I could see. Looks like it is a popular channel, but it is not for me. I don't really care much about Achievement Hunter either, but I love Red vs Blue, so that's all the reason I need to opt for that. If I were to watch videos of theirs, I've a higher probability of liking one from them than the other channel.

I can't watch all of Errant Signal for fear of spoilers (tastefully marked in the titles), but I've long enjoyed what I have looked at from the channel. NoSmallParts actually does seem a bit interesting on second look...all the imdb stuff colored my perception when I glanced at it earlier. The name itself irked me a bit too, with it relating to acting rather than something cool like giant machines. Still, if I want to look up character actors, it will be because I am seeing them in something, and can then use the internet to find interesting things, not the reverse, so a youtube channel is of minimal use to me. Errant Signal is just nice to have on tap though...it doesnt update too often, but when it does, whatever video pops out will be time well spent.

Oh neat, I didn't know RLM had a game channel. I think I've gotta default to this over what is essentially a rap channel.

Say Jesus were alive. And for whatever reason, he had the ability (and inclination) to create a nation. No limits, he can jump straight from zero to modern instantly.

What kind of nation do you think he'd make?

Has Vlado gotten to you? Why does he gotta make a nation? What if there was some kind of opposite Christ, a reverse Christ, if you will, with the power for whatever reason to destroy a nation? If the two Christs shook hands, would the universe explode? Or would they just perpetually tap dance around each other and keep going back to the night that reverse Christ killed regular Christ's mother?

retsupurae
College Humor
TASVideosChannel

Stamper looks like pretty low hanging fruit, it didn't strike a chord with me. Not the worst I've seen, but eh. I'd take retsupurae any day. Slowbeef and Diabetus have gone through quite a lot together, one of the foundational duos to emerge from somethingawful. While the channel mostly seems to riff on kickstarters these days, it has a vast quantity of gaming tucked away in its past when it actually was about commenting on other people's horrible let's plays. They were kinda the gatekeepers that lead to me discovering personalities like Tie Tuesday and Geop and their fun circle of friends.

What could have been a wash was made a much harder decision due to brutalmoose having some strong presentation skills wrapped up in a solid package. Turns out that there are a number of CH videos I am not a big fan of, as I discovered when browsing through some of their content just now. I still remember some solid select videos which is enough to tip the scales in its favor, but either channel winning would be fine by me.

Never heard of This Exists, but it checks off a number of nice boxes. I don't think I'll be a regular viewer, but if I happened across a wayward video here and there, that wouldn't be so bad. I've gotta side with TASVideos here though. Some might question the fun in watching a game be unhumanly perfected in ways never intended, but there are just some games that are a treat to watch be relentlessly abused, and it is nice to have a channel devoted to the art. Back in the day I remember downloading a number of videos from tas sites, but that doesn't need to happen anymore now that youtube is a thing. The only slightly tricky thing here with this channel would be searching for games you might like, but that probably is made easier with use of the channel's website.

Hyun's Dojo

Extra Credits

I'm skimming through a few of Hyun's vids, both popular and recent, and I am seeing a good deal I like. Sprite fights, animations, and a fair amount of stick figure stuff that reminds me of some of the earlier years I browsed the web looking at flash videos. It seems to focus a lot on anime, as one would expect of something with dojo in its name. I wouldn't call it a quality channel in terms of what it is presenting, but rather the quality is in how it is presented. I could totally get behind this channel as a bit of a guilty pleasure. GMM seems to be a daily morning show channel youtube style, and it is an interesting market to tap...seems to have a reliable large audience too. The personalities just didn't speak to me. They're surely doing something right, but I think I'll pass.

I was concerned I might have to give Todd in the Shadows a fair chance, but then gazorra revealed to me what type of channel it was within 2 seconds of clicking the link. I know I've even posted a few TNG edits here on this board, but for the life of me I could never remember the name of the channel they hailed from. It is apparently gazorra, and it is much better than lengthy discussions about one hit wonders.

I'll give BikdipOnABus credit, I was quite ready to judge the channel based on its name and icon, but there just might be some content I'll check out...what caught my eye in particular was some kind of mario 64 mod he's currently doing, "Mario 64: Last Impact". Presentationwise, he seems a bit on the unenthusiastic side, but he does say on his about page that it is more a dry humor thing than an overly enthusiastic one. Regardless, I think I'm still going to side with Extra Credits for this match. EC's done a pretty fun job of presenting a number of game concepts and ideas without demanding much time per week. It just has a nice feel to me...the right mixture of art style, audio, and content. Even when I don't happen to agree with what they're saying, they manage to have some interesting things to say.

Could they not fucking travel to a time where there WASN'T a war going on and just walk over and get the thing.

But that's not how time travel works. You can only travel to times and places that would be deemed interesting by a majority of early 21st century americans or are easy to make costumes for because those spots are special or something. You try and go to just-before-WWI France, and the timeline will yawn itself out of existence!

Every Frame a Painting

I was adequately entertained with Jeremy talking to me about the batman lego movie, something I recently saw and felt would be a good litmus test for the channel, but I don't think I could view his channel for very long. It has some effort put into it, and the guy isn't too bad, it just didn't spark with me. Besides, the other channel has given me permission to touch their boobies that also happen to be of the heavy variety. The Disney spoof song is pretty neat too.

Right off the bat OneyNG swings and misses with the first video I checked out. Come to find out it is also the source of the Dragonball Peepee video that I hunted down some weeks back looking for the source of 'super sand lesbians'. I was not impressed. Maybe if I were still a teen it would resonate more. No, potholer54 is infinitely better in my opinion. The guy is pretty much the champion of source checking, explaining and debunking many common myths pertaining to (predominately) climate change and evolution. The channel has, unfortunately, a bit of a glacial video update schedule, but that just means that each new video is that much more a treat to view. One of my top picks for anyone scientifically minded, or desiring to be such.

Gameing Historian actually was pretty decent...but ultimately a bit too average for my tastes, over explaining details in the video I watched. It almost felt like a generic video template was being used, like some kind of AVGN crib sheet but without the anger. I haven't watched as much of Every Frame a Painting as I would like to, but every video I watched I have enjoyed on some level. It is full of interesting analysis that would be a goldmine for anyone with film aspirations, or just anyone wanting a deeper understanding of the medium that is rarely explored elsewhere. It might be said that there are too many film oriented channels in this contest, but if I had to promote just one, it would likely be this one.

Even images trying to portray Trump in a positive light are laughably doing the opposite. Knowing what we know about Trump, the Trump in that image probably believes that just that one truck is enough to get the job done. We are further lead to believe that he drove that truck there himself and set the operation in motion, but that would require knowing how trucks work and how anything works, two qualities we know that our Trump lacks.

I will give that image credit though, it does do a pretty good job of showing how adept Trump is at just standing around not accomplishing much. And that swamp monster is pretty legit too, I could totally see a dnd party fighting something like that.

Numberphile

There is only so much nostalgia I can handle, if I were to describe to Andre, I fear it would be too much. That said, so many things about the Caddicarus channel just rub me the wrong way. The presentation and humor feel a bit forced. Black Nerd, on the other hand, feels more natural and like he's just in it to have a good time. I can respect that.

I don't have any particular love for the Kazoo, but it makes me happy that somebody has made it their thing. I like that more than rap or whatever the other channel does, I could barely last three seconds there. I'm just gonna jam to this megalovania kazoo cover as I continue onward...

Game Theorists isn't a bad idea in theory, and I might go for them if they were not matched against one of my absolute favorite youtube channels. Where to even begin with Numberphile? It probably started with a simple video about prime numbers for me, but then I watched more and more mathematical concepts talked about by some witty mathematicians. There's just so much goodness packed into one channel, so much so that they needed a numberphile2 to deal with all the extra footage bits. More so than any other channel in this contest, I would recommend this one.

That said, I don't really make a point of chastising people for beliefs they might hold, at least, so long as those beliefs are not being sent my direction via laws or aggressive personal confrontations. Everyone should be free to believe what they wish, but trying to force a belief takes it a step too far.

Ugh, I wanted to finish this case off today, but I've been feeling sick the past couple days, and it might be reaching a peak now. You are all horrible people for stooping to the level of ice puns <3.

Ratbird Champion
Larry Bundy Jr
Neil Cicierega

I admit, I didn't do too much digging on either channel here, but I think I would enjoy Ratbird more than Greg were i forced to choose. Both could use some polish, but Ratbird is quite upfront about it just being a hobby for her. She's got a slightly infectious voice too.

I thought Larry Jr. sounded a bit familiar! Yeah, I've seen some of his stuff, particularly when he and Ashens worked together. I am now reminded that Ashens did not make it into this contest, and that makes me a bit sad, but Larry's not too bad either. I think I'll go with him over an angry old person.

I only know about Jon Lajoie for one song he did...'f*** everything'. It is a fun song and makes me think of my brother, so it has that going for it. The problem here, is that I like Neil for a lot more than just one song, but very little of that seems to actually be on the youtube channel linked here. He's done the ultimate battle of ultimate destiny and the ebaums world song and quite a few others, a number of albums it seems. And he's still doing that. Thankfully he's got potter puppet pals videos on this channel that was nominated, so on that basis alone I could pick him over Jon.

“How would they know that?” Mr. Trump asked when told that local historians had called his plaque a fiction. “Were they there?”

There is no amount of facepalm gifs that could be presented to offset a statement like this.

I made the mistake of watching the recent supergirl episode because the Flash episode made it a point to say 'Previously on Supergirl...'. Instead of any meaningful connection, what I got was plot revolving around Kevin Sorbo and his lady friend attempting to convince some random pretty boy that maybe plaid can be fashion on their home planet of notkypton. The B-plot involved some power ranger alien reject chick and art.

Glibness aside, it was alright, and has convinced me that maybe I should give Supergirl a chance. I just wish it had been more strongly connected to the Flash episode it got paired with.

As for that Flash episode, pretty underwhelming. It was cool hearing the vocally gifted of the cast have at it (and probably most of the reason for their random appearances), but I wasn't invested in the plot at all. The songs weren't very inspired either. Super Friends probably makes it to the top, not for quality, but for charm.

"Whoever you're looking for, it's not me" - Barry Allen

Yeah, I was looking for Grant Gustin

Snark aside, this actually looks decent. Not amazing or garbage, just...kinda there. Which is probably a step up for DC live action stuff.

Epic Rap Battle
Camille and Kennerly
GameGrumps

Wrestling vs rap, but not just any rap, historical rap jacked up to 11. ERB is another one of those pillars of youtube that most people here have probably experienced at least once, or knows someone else who has enjoyed it. I can imagine the amount of time it must take to both research enough to gain a reasonable handle of the characters, and then distill all that information down into lyrics that are also entertaining. Not to mention the amount of work that goes into the visuals and editing process. If one were to consider this dumb entertainment, then it would be the pinnacle. Speaking of dumb entertainment, the other channel is something about wrestling. It actually looks pretty well put together too, with what looks like an exploration of all sorts of things tangentially related to wrestling as well as some of the dumber wrestling moments. If I were in to wrestling, this is likely a channel I would enjoy a great deal! Alas, it is against ERB, so even if it were to find some new audience, it probably won't matter.

Ok, so I make it a point to check out the about page on unfamiliar channels when they exist, and I had a good chuckle at this bit on the harp twin's page. "We are Third Degree Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do and "Distinguished Experts" in rifle marksmanship, but do not hunt and are vegetarian.". You just can't make that kind of stuff up! I'll gladly take harp ladies over an anti-feminism channel with pepe in its banner.

I...did not expect to be conflicted with this third match. I thought GameGrumps had this locked in, what kind of name is jaboody anyway? Turns out what jaboody is selling is exactly what I'm buying. Commercial dubs are a weakness of mine, so I am gonna be watching a lot of these I think. That said, it is a pretty similar cross section with game grumps humorwise. I could listen to Dan talk about literally anything all day and it would be time well spent, the game part of their channel is almost immaterial. Finding a game you love or hate and watching them experience it can make for many a magical moment. I've gotta give them the edge here, but I can't not root for the other channel too. If only we could have days where both channels could lose so that we could have days where both channels could win...

I think I understand what 4-D Chess means now.

"I have no f***ing clue what he's doing but I refuse to believe anything negative about him so I'm just going to say that he's got some crazy plan that will all come together!"

Trump might indeed be playing 4-D Chess. Dumb, Disingenuous, Disturbed, Deranged Chess.

Great read about the crazy ride Republicans went on this week.

Quite the positive note to end on too. Yessir, the future is looking brighter and brighter so long as these republicans are the ones in congress!

Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared isn't really supposed to be funny. It gets a bit overly artsy, but the creators had a vision and followed through with it. I wouldn't expect it to go too far in this contest, but I rated it higher than the other channel, and that's what counted for me. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the one video I enjoyed in the past ended up as part of a series, and doubly surprised that the series had all kinds of layers to it.

I really liked Robbaz's KSP videos dealing with the giant cube he made. Somehow he turned KSP into something like an action packed movie experience, and it was glorious. If his other stuff is as good as that, I might have to subscribe.

I agree, there are a few moments I'd still want to see in full, but for the series in general, the abridged is probably the best way to get one's nostalgia fix for the show.

As for this episode, a bit light on the funny and more a build up to the main attraction, but there's only so much one can do with the source material. I did love the cell game shorts leading up to it at least.
