Love this game. Very ambitious for the Game Boy. Very well designed.

But maaaaaan, I have to knock off points for that "constantly switching items" problem. I know some of it is just limitations of the system, but also, come one, you also didn't NEED to have the Power Bracelet be an item you have to equip every time, did you?
The Switch remake fixed that. I'm not sure if the Switch version counts for this topic though; it's technically a remake but it's pretty similar too

I think it's some combination of:
  • PS3 isn't popular on this website because we're OldFAQs.
  • PS3 is generally not as good or popular as PS1, 2, & 4.
  • Modern consoles tend to have more high tier games, which means more LFF.
  • The lines between which console and even which generation each game "belongs" to becomes blurred which leads to more weird LFF. For example, IMO Grand Theft Auto V should be on a Top 20 PS3 Games list but others might think that it's a Gen 8 game.
  • People might be getting burned out on these lists?

I'm a bit in the middle. Sophie, Pascal, Richard, and Malik are all amazing IMO. While the Lhant trio kinda sucks though they're usually okay. I'd take Symphonia's cast as the best, but Graces is probably 2nd best all things considered.

A year and a half ago I did... something which likely caused by hands to crack up, and it took until recently to get it under control. I still have to use moisturizer occasionally or else my fingers on the palm side of my right hand still get visibly dry though.

We then get to this game's version of war battles which is something out of Advance Wars or something, not that Advance Wars existed yet. Your mobility seems pretty terrible for a tactical kind of setup but it's only the first one so maybe it gets better. I kind of have no idea what you're supposed to do in those so far, but it seemed to mostly be a storytelling tool to show off that our fire spears are, indeed, awesome. Don't worry bro, I played Suikoden 1. I already know.
Advance Wars existed in Japan as Famicom Wars back then. The pre-Advance games were all pretty basic though; it was along the lines of if Advance Wars only had the War Room.

The TBS battles in Suikoden II aren't well designed, and most of the time they're just for storytelling as you said. But they're still fun in their own way. Plus not many games can say they have 3 battle systems (normal, TBS, and duels).

It's a classic I'll never forget, but it's clearly been surpassed by many Pokemon games that came out later. Plus they're just generally very janky and are very lucky that parts of that jank are charming (e.g. the Cinnabar coast glitch)

Episode 2 the rest: 7/10
Episode 3: 5/10
I got up to Episode 5 and this is close to my opinion. It's pretty good prior to it becoming a clown show of trotting out the chuuni witch/demon/etc. of the hour.

I'll still finish it someday. I replayed Episodes 1 and 2 and I guess I see who the culprit probably is now, though I'm very murky on the why so maybe not.

It's kind of interesting on paper, but it's often painful to actually play. Combat is slow, graphics are bad, story is nonsense, and even the characters can struggle due to the large cast. It even manages to ruin Chrono Trigger a little bit in the process (though not anywhere nearly as badly as Xenoblade 3 did to Xenoblade 1 and 2, and no one cared about that, so eh).
