At first sure, but it's been a decade. There's a reason the Conservatives are looking at a likely majority government this year.

Canadian bacon is what we in Canada (and I'm pretty sure most of the world) call back bacon. Just bacon is still regular bacon. So it is an American thing, yeah.

Agreed. The nice thing about how our elections work is if you don't have a majority, then you end up becoming hamstrung by a minority parliament. Nobody will want to work with Pierre Pollivere.

Here's how I see it. Like you said, the modern CPC is basically incapable of working with the other parties. This means a CPC minority simply won't last, we'd have another election in literal months. The CPC will go hard on blaming the other parties forcing another election so soon and not letting them govern as Canadians wanted them to. This would pave the way to an easy majority for the CPC on the second attempt. Sadly, I think a CPC majority is just inevitable at this point. Canada's best hope is that that majority only lasts the maximum four years.

Continue to blame Trudeau. Im not even joking. There are people here in Alberta who blame Pierre Trudeau for everything bad that happens even though he was 40 years ago.

Not to mention you'd think Notley was still Premier with the way she continues to get blamed for everything wrong in the province.

Then you should support the change as not only does the gender neutrality brings the English translation closer to the original French version, but the original English translation used "thou doth in us command". Clearly the new line is closer to the original intent then "in all thy sons command".

Even Alberta, the most conservative province in confederation, still maintains its public health care system (though more dysfunctionally than a lot of the rest of the country).

Mostly cause they don't want to deal with the loss of federal health transfers that'd come with violating the Canada Health Act. Danielle Smith has been very open about wanting private healthcare, but they need federal funding to even attempt a switch.

I've heard it too. When the UCP in Alberta used a leader change to claim they were a brand new party not at all responsible for all the things they had done during their last four years in power. The gambit tricked enough people to preserve their majority. Obviously liberal voters are harder to deceive than conservative voters, but it's still a proven strategy in Canadian politics. Besides, as stated, this is about mitigating losses, the Liberals already have no hope of maintaining government.

Conservatives were pretty much guaranteed a majority because of all the negativity surrounding Trudeau. Him resigning gives the Liberals a chance to do some rebranding ahead of the next election and will probably help them keep some seats they were at risk of losing. Probably not enough to stop a CPC majority from getting in, but it'll keep the Liberals from being completely annihilated.

Not really done as an emergency, the government can call an election whenever they want. There's a maximum limit to how long they can go without calling one, but no minimum limit. Most people criticized the election for being called during the pandemic, with people feeling it was just a move to secure a longer mandate while being seen favorably during a crisis. His opponents had as much actual time to prepare as any election, but it might have caught them off guard to do it during the circumstances.

As far as they and Democrats going forward are concerned it's a settled matter left up to the states.

Roe v. Wade was a settled matter and look what happened. We've had GOP members say they want a federal ban ever since Roe got overturned and with control of house, senate, presidency and SCOTUS, there's no reason to think it won't get pushed through now.

Ukraine will carry on as they have. They have known the possibility that they couldn't rely in the US. They can get more of their funding from the UN.

It's not just a matter of Ukraine losing US support, but the very real threat of Russia gaining US support. Ukraine can't fight a US backed Russia.
