As part of the club, that person shared a report that their son had helped write up, and my aunt and uncle shared it with me. It basically went over how pandemics work, how the infection rates of Covid were much higher than being reported, and that (at the time) the numbers were always delayed. It also went into how the disease would spread quicker than anticipated, and the risk of our health infrastructure being overwhelmed. This is the report. I just remember slowly reading it and realizing Oh fuck things are going to get bad. At work, they were about to send us all home, and my co-workers were talking about how wed be back in 2 weeks. I said I was thinking at least until the summer, but likely longer. The fuck does he consider "skill," that older players lacked? Outside of shittier defense and a focus on three point shooting, the game hasn't changed that much in the last 35 years. Players today are able to do flashier stuff on average because the defenses cant get away with as much. Im sure defenses could be better, but they are neutered by the league, and as a result, offenses can get a lot more done. The days of the 80s Pistons and early 90s Knicks are gone forever. And I am not going to deny that current players arent more skilled. As a whole, they likely are. Thats just how sports tend to go - the athletes become better over time. But you sorta need to look at the athletes and how they compared in their times.
