It's always the last resort of someone desperately trying to gatekeep. I very very rarely see video games called art aside from gatekeeping in DS. Sure, others are called art, but never to gatekeep. Miyazaki is free to do what he wants, but if there was an easy mode, he'd get more people, one way or another, to experience his art. Because someone will play the game on easy, and then decide to play on normal difficulty, and experience it as he intended. Again, he doesn't have to do this, but it would be a way to get more people to experience his art. Isn't that the point? Or is the point that only a certain group of people who like the intended difficulty to begin with should get to experience his art? Depends on the artist.
