Voting status is just whether or not you've voted, and that's often a public record. Who people vote for remains secret, for now.

I'm fairly certain that literally happened to him in both of his civil cases, if I'm not mistaken.

It absolutely happened in the defamation case involving Carroll where he defamed her again and had to pay like 81m as a result.

Civil cases rarely require the jury to be unanimous to reach a verdict.

But the possibility of a mistrial in the Trump hush money case doesn't bother me too much, as long as the prosecution has the stones to try the case again to a new jury.

This trial was decided in jury selection. It's a mistrial if at least one committed Trumpist got on the jury, otherwise the verdict will be guilty.

The trial itself is remarkably meaningless, it's only objective value being that Trump's forced attendance there leaves him less time for evil-doing.

This is remarkably shitty behavior, even for a Republican.

I think I remember reading that according to formal rules of etiquette, a former president is to be addressed as Mr. (or Miss / Mrs. if applicable), or the highest title other formerly held, like Governor or Senator. Since no other government titles apply in Trump's case, in a formal setting like court, "Mr." it is. Or "the defendant".

I'd like to see Scottish insults vs. Trump show up in court for this case -- e.g., having "witless fucking cocksplat" or the like in the transcript would be very funny.

You don't need to be born in the US. You just need to be a "natural born" citizen. Which has no technical definition but most people think as long as you were a citizen by some means when you were born then you're eligible. Republicans used to strictly say it can only be interpreted as you need to be born in the US, so that they could push conspiracies that Obama isn't eligible to be president by saying he was secretly born in Africa. Republicans had to make exceptions that John McCain was eligible though because he was born on a US base in Panama. But then they altogether changed their opinion on what "natural born" means again when Ted Cruz ran for president, and he is very plainly just born in Canada.

The fact that they're OK with the Ted Cruz definition now is funny too because it means the Obama-Kenya birth conspiracy was entirely meaningless. Even if he was born in Kenya, which he wasn't, he would still be eligible since his mother would have passed him American citizenship the same way as Ted Cruz. It goes without saying but it was entirely a racism-driven conspiracy. The only rational path to dealing with climate change is serious policy at the international level. Of course that's a really difficult problem to deal with fairly, but that difficulty is not an excuse to do fuck-all, which is pretty much what's happening.

I definitely think setting a standard for presidents starting with him that such behavior was unacceptable in the modern age would have been a good thing. I'm not sure impeachment was the penalty he deserved, but he definitely should have been penalized.

People constantly refer to the crimes of Presidents like Nixon as if that should be a get out of jail free card for modern presidents. At some point you have to say "we got to be better, these are the new standards".

I find it impossible to take perjury seriously in the context of a Republican fishing expedition where questions were asked that never should have been asked, and that was my feeling back then as well.

The most I will concede is that "fuck off" would have been a better response by Bill Clinton to the fishing expedition than lying.
