I don't care if some Americans and some Democrats want to give Israel more bombs because they're wrong. I'm going to vote for Joe Biden in November but that doesn't mean I'm willing to pretend Israel does not carry active genocidal intentions and that the US government does not aid and abet those intentions to become action.

^I would rephrase that btw but yeah, the sad thing is that as the war has progressed I think it's very probable the Gaza ministry of health has undercounted the dead, for the fact that they're trying to cut no corners to remain legitimate under international scrutiny, but the massively deteriorating conditions means their ability to fully do that job was of course diminished.

I think it's the opposite: it is trivially true that rich people have feelings. It's not downplaying a struggle to point out that rich people uniquely have the resources to get the quality therapists and treatment they need that are unavailable to many people. Is having money all that's needed in the world? No, but I think you're kidding yourself if you believe money is not the #1 quality of life differentiator among individuals, because it objectively, measurably is.

There's nothing to meme stocks except hoping its increase will get more retail investors to pile in so you can sell to those at a higher price. AMC and GameStop and Bed Bath Beyond all have bad financials and/or market outlook, there's very good reasons why institutional investors did not want to hold them plummeting their prices.

Meme stocks are a giant pull of people looking to rugpull each other and the "true believers" holding will inevitably be the biggest losers.

I keep seeing this article posted but I can't find a source as to what new methodology or source the UN is using for why they decreased the women and children fatality count. They're now saying instead that some 4,959 women and 7,797 children, instead of the 9,500 and 14,500 number from before.

The change was for deaths identified. They also didn't previously show the number of men identified.It's not immediately clear to me the standard they're using for "identified", the age cutoff or whether men and women above a certain age are counted singularly as "elderly".

Extrapolating the proportions to the remaining 10k confirmed deaths and taking the 10k "under the rubble or otherwise missing" as deaths at face value (given these numbers are probably conservative due to the difficulties of tracking and reporting amid the mass destruction): that would be an additional 6,400 unidentified kids and 4,000 women.

So about 9k women and 14,400 children, which gets us roughly to the numbers before the reporting change. Given how well this napkin math works out, I expect this is in fact what changed in the reporting. Still I don't see an explanation on the UN page at the moment.

That's all to say, it doesn't appear that the UN has done anything to doubt or discredit the Gaza MoH numbers, instead they stopped reporting the total estimates and changed it to absolute confirmed identity deaths.

I'm only finding reporting from right wing outlets that are using the wording to suggest the total death count was reduced by the UN. It honestly looks like partisan opportunism, though the UN could probably have dampened those headlines if it gave more information up front about the reporting change.

This supposes that they all picked only good scripts afterwards and ruined the movies with their acting. They could've not been offered many great scripts, or they could've chosen projects for reasons besides the script like coworkers or subject, or they could be bad at picking scripts. etc

Not to mention how they perform the script depends on the director's instruction
