Also yeah that boss seriously needs a nerf. I probably did 20-30 attempts, whereas final Act 1 boss was 3 attempts. The boss and attack patterns itself are really good and fun, but the adds are just stupid. They need to do 1 damage, remove the 3 second stunlock on hit, and/or remove their invincibility when they are attacking. They only have 3 hp but they are invincible a majority of the time. If you get a lucky cycle where she doesnt summon an add, you get a huge advantage.

In general I would like them to balance the bosses so that the randomized cycles are similarly difficult. It always sucks when 1 of the 3 possible attacks is 10x harder than the other 2. Dark Souls is really careful to avoid that in most of their bosses.

You might be right but this one was also very easy to dodge by slow-falling with the glide. I didn't feel the window was particularly tight for this.

Didn't think about that for some reason. I just did a regular jump then dash, which works but only with pretty good timing

The only time I've really felt this was with that one Widow attack. The rest of the bosses and the vast majority of enemies punish you for staying still, even in the air.

The ants are not especially optional or challenging compared to other upper areas. But it is true that you can always go somewhere else when you're stuck. People who refused to accept that about Elden Ring also got pissed.

I meant to say the big shared prisons. We've seen smaller wooden prisons specifically for waterbenders but it's rare.

But on Switch you typically sleep the game then resume without the intro right?

We've only seen earth and fire benders in fire nation prisons. It makes sense since the water nation is pretty much subjugated and limited to the poles, while the vast majority of the population is earth and fire nation. But yeah either Katara or Aang (and maybe even Toph) would've trivialized the entire adventure and probably destroyed the entire prison. The point is that Sokka wanted to prove himself though, after failing the invasion. It's hubris but that's who he is.

I was using Reaper for a bit until I realized it doesn't seem to hit enemies that are directly above you. It was hitting more diagonal upwards which completely breaks my flow.

It basically swings up behind you (so if you're facing right, it hits the top-left quadrant). The best anti-air for the top-right quadrant is a regular jump attack since it has a pretty good height and distance to it. Even the down air has a lot of lateral reach, so I often use it to attack the top-right quadrant, and from there you can pogo as much as you want.

Christ, getting to and beating the boss for Beast with the default weapon sounds insane

Reaper makes the game so much more fun. I do switch to Wanderer for bosses typically though since the DPS matters more than the survivability. I will never use the default weapon though (even with the upgrade)

It's crazy how strong getting to the start screen is in context, after seeing it so many times with no context (remember that on PS2 you had to boot the game up every time you played so you would see the intro probably dozens of times by the time you get here)

I do like that rosaries only drop from certain enemies. It makes it feel good to skip small enemies, whereas in other games you feel like you're missing out.

I remember dying like 5 times in a row to one of the first bosses in HK and the runback was so annoying, and that's why I bounced off and never played it again. It's funny seeing people say this game is so much more frustrating. Like what is actually different about it?

Reminds me of when Elden Ring came out and everyone was pissed that it was "too hard" because of the animation delays that broke your previous muscle memory. But what it really did was recreate the feeling of difficulty of Dark Souls 1. People got so used to being good at Dark Souls that they thought they liked it because they were good. They forgot that the initial struggle and growth was the real reason your brain got hooked on it.

I'm noticing a pattern for me in boss fights:

No adds: 1-5 tries
Has adds: 10-30 tries

It's pretty much the same as in Dark Souls where Godskin Duo is literally harder than 90% of the other bosses just because there's 2 of them

I'm much farther now but I still haven't gotten past the Hunter's March gauntlet because it just sucks

Although it's so much nicer now having a weapon that actually bounces properly

Hard is not challenging tbh. If you feel stressed and challenged all the time but still consistently make progress, that's not really hard, it's just good game design. Hard is when you hit walls where you need to just get good.

This game does feel a bit on the hard side since there's not many ways to grind and progress without getting past the walls in front of you. Elden Ring feels more challenging overall but you have so many ways to go around walls that you can't really call it "hard".

Food trucks have 1 or 2 orders of magnitude less startup and labor cost than a restaurant, which is why restauranteurs do them before opening a brick & mortar.

There's also an interpretation of "least profitable" which includes the chance that you will make profit. If you have high startup cost but your chance of making it back is good, then it's profitable even if it will take a while. Like buying real estate or something.

Restaurants have high startup and labor cost AND low chance of ever turning a profit so it's gotta be that.

It actually sounds completely plausible to the point that I wouldn't even question it if more evidence for that came out. You really just need the ultimate weapons for 3 party members since they all equalize pretty quickly after going into each other's grids. Fortunately Tidus and Yuna's are pretty easy to get.

Clair Obscur had a good perk system too where you level up your capacity pretty regularly, so eventually the older perks that you used to value are now cheap enough that you just toss them on using spare points. Then there's some perks with multiple copies, and it gets exponentially more expensive the more copies you equip.

That said, loot does not need to be useful to be a good reason to explore. In Metroid you'll spend a ton of time exploring just to increase your missile count from 190 to 195. And it's still so hype every time.

Few people here bring genuinely new ideas to the table, so it is totally hypocritical to single out DK. It's funny that he acts like a mindless robot despite being so afraid of social media turning everyone into mindless robots. But he's not too different from anyone else here.

Yeah I've died a good amount of times but I'm being careless and the runbacks are easy. But you're supposed to die, it's a soulslike. It doesn't feel any harder than Dark Souls 1, let alone Elden Ring where every boss was like "how is this even possible". From what I remember of HK1, it was the same.

It's because no one has seen anyone post something like that before. You should post like that much more often, and then we'll eventually get used to it.

I super cheesed him by staying in the narrow hallway before the fight arena. That avoids his jump attack, so you just need to avoid his regular attack and poke, then repeat.

In general there seems to be a simple strategy like that for every boss. It's fun to figure out but not nearly as deep or exciting as figuring out a Dark Souls boss. It also makes the guantlets way harder than bosses, which is weird.

Played up to a little bit after the boss that looks like that one beatmania animation (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvGRj77EAOo) in one sitting, which is probably more than I played HK1 in total. Discovering how to sequence break using the divekick got me very excited since that kind is like 80% of the appeal of this genre to me.

Funny how everyone hates and/or is stuck at the ant section. It does suck ass and made me retroactively dislike the divekick. There's so many ways they could've made the bouncing more reliable. I also got stuck at the gauntlet there with about 250 rosaries. But I found that if you die near the door, you can get your silk and leave without getting locked in. That seems to work for most boss areas. Not sure why they didn't just leave your silk outside of the door . Things like that make the game feel super dated.

This is what I call bending backwards. This is a liberal version of the argument but there's conservative versions too. At the end of the day, you're all unified under keynesianism. It's the most universally encompassing philosophy that human history has ever seen.

By the way, 100% of US keynesianism is coupled to military spending. A large part is also driven by our inflated healthcare system, and our venture capital tech economy, but even those sectors are fully reliant on USD being the global reserve currency, which is enforced by the military.

An America without war and with universal healthcare is an austere and anti-keynesian America. I dream of it.
