It was proven to be manufactured outrage almost immediately in 2016, and we've long since proved that no one cares his broad dehumanization of Americans, not the targeted incitement of terrorism from his allies, and in fact they are all rewarded for it. Trump was re-elected with a very clear anti-American pro-loyalist mandate.

He and his allies have said it's the whole left. Also he's defined the radical left as all non-loyalists, which includes around 70% or more of Americans (depends on the % of lesser-of-two-evil voters).

The only new development was that 1 Democrat had the guts to call Trumpers "weird" and it worked for like 2 weeks before being killed.

I never attempted lightning more than like 10 or 20. Once you hit 20 and realize you're only 10% of the way there, there's no way to keep motivated.

I sadistically like the chocobo race nowadays. On one playthrough I remember beating it first try. It's also almost entirely luck. If your first balloon is close to you, it's way easier. If your first balloon is unlucky, you basically have no chance.

I almost liked that one despite the adds, because his down attack is fun to dodge and kills the adds if you're smart. But if he RNG doesn't do that attack often, then it becomes a 5x harder boss. Too many bosses have poor RNG balance like that.

There's been a lot of infighting among Trumpers, especially about Epstein but also things like the $4T deficit bill. This is the first time one of those infighters has received corporal punishment, and soon after being called anti-Trump by loud voices (e.g. Loomer). I wonder if this will cause less infighting. Someone like Massie who is directly leading anti-Trump lawsuits could be chilled.

You might wonder why Massie wasn't targeted by a hit if the goal was to protect Trump. That's because Massie is too obviously leading the charge. Killing Charlie is more subtle and would still cause a chilling effect, while also able to be exploited for civil war rhetoric. No one would actually give a shit if Massie was assassinated.

Yeah even if you exclude that the 2nd amendment is meant for aggression, at the least violence is an answer as a defense against other violence

I remember getting to Margit in ER and thinking "I've played Souls for over 10 years now and I might have to literally quit this game at the first boss". It's hilarious to imagine people feeling the same at Moss Mother.

Those episodes are dumb af, fanfiction tier. Fun to watch though!

Also S1 is pretty impressive in hindsight. It has so many flaws but the world building is ridiculous. S3 and 4 are much more "comfortable" like ATLA though.

Interesting thing is this is the 3rd person shot to death for defending Trump. Babbitt, Comperatore, and now Kirk. It's also quite likely that all 3 killers were under Trump's command (technically Trump was still commander of the secret service on Jan 6)

Sure, Dark Souls proved how good of a game design it can be

Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring proved how it could be better with a shorter runback and more intense bosses

Ultimately I think that is the design decision made - make longer runbacks to increase perceived difficulty of bosses, instead of making the bosses themselves harder

A runback is definitely long if you die to the boss faster than it takes to runback. That means a majority of your time is in the runback, not learning the boss. You will instantly be frustrated in that situation. This definitely happens with some bosses like LJ.

I would say if you spend over 20% of your boss fighting time in the runback, you are likely to get frustrated within 3-5 attempts. That applies to lots of bosses in this game. Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring have a ratio of more like 5%, which lets you die over a dozen times without frustration. Super Meat Boy is like 1%, which means you won't even notice how many times you've died until like 50 or 100 attempts.

I didn't mind the act 1 finale runback after figuring it out (except that one hammer enemy randomly blocking your entire path forward was dumb as hell).

But I am pretty shocked at how long the runbacks in the game are. Dark Souls 3 already figured out that if you eliminate the runbacks, you can have much harder bosses without triggering frustration. This game could've easily done that but chose not to. Huge reason why this game feels so much like Dark Souls 1, and equally dated.

Widow and the final act boss tbh. But they are both 0-add bosses so they feel very fine.

That boss is great, how all the bosses should be. The projectiles are all predictable and dodgeable. It rewards you recognizing when the projectile will likely hit you and choosing to reposition instead of continue attacking.

Korra is definitely more like 4 shows than 1 epic arc, but it works imo. It's better than just being "more of the same" which is what people really wanted at the time. If you want the same, just rewatch ATLA. It's so rewatchable.

This is an interesting point, I do think it's a huge part of it. Mainly because it's kind of a requirement to do soulslike combat.

The core of souls combat is that 1 or 2 hits puts you close to death, whereas you need dozens of hits to kill the poss. That's how you achieve the David vs Goliath feeling. Flasks make you actually have 20-30 hits worth of health total which is very strong, but you need to feel weak for the game to work. Metroid specifically gives you a huge health reserve so individual hits don't really matter and you feel very powerful.

Legitimately, could you name the mechanics you're thinking of? I can recognize there are some shared mechanics but none of the core systems are there and classifying something for tertiary reasons feels very strange to me.

The level design, locks & keys, currency, corpse run, melee dodge combat, weapon styles, combat heal, boss design, NPC/quest design, are all extremely similar. All of that is tertiary?

Colloquially, a corpse run is enough to be called soulslike, but I think that's dumb too. This game has far more and deeper similarities though.

There's aesthetic similarities too but I'm not talking about that at all (although it seems like that's the majority appeal for a lot of HK fans).

The game it feels closest to is Dark Souls, moreso than even SOTN. That's part of why it feels so dated. I feel like I've played this game 3 times already in 3D form.

Some people say Sekiro isn't a soulslike because it doesn't have stats. But that's dumb.

I would def recommend reading the comics. It's well accepted that the finale is very rushed. There's a bunch of comics now that go into much more detail and answer basically all your questions. They're pretty well written, not by the original writers, but I think they were closely consulted at least.

Korra is very much worth watching but maybe not immediately.

What makes a SotN-like different from a Metroid-like to you? Like I know what I'd mean if I used those terms, but I wouldn't call Silksong either one.

It's very much an SOTN-like (the char even moves exactly like Alucard), the only reason it wouldn't be is that it's also very much a soulslike. But those can overlap completely. Soulslike cannot fully overlap with Metroid though.

The difference is best shown in Ori 1 vs Ori 2 imo. Ori 1 is like 80% Metroid while Ori 2 is like 50/50 Metroid and SOTN.

Main diff with SOTN:
Melee combat and dodging
RPG elements
Loot/equips

Something feel especially Metroid if it focuses on:
Sequence breaking with abilities
Breaking walls for secret passageways
Gaining abilities from bosses
