So the argument of "PS3/4/5 has no games" is it that they truly have no games to play, or they have no games exclusive to the PS5, so the PS5 isn't as essential of a purchase vs just getting a gaming PC?

Pardon my ignorance. I've always been a PlayStation guy, and while I'm not the kind of gamer than has dozens and dozens of game backlogged, I've also never really felt like I had nothing to play.

Like why though?

This was small town America. It was next to our houses. My family rarely played with the rent. Dad and his brother were just happy it made more money than the regular maintenance.

It wasn't like some huge income generator.

Because even in situations like this, to some people, making any sort of profit from owning a property you aren't using for yourself, whether it be a 2nd house, a 2nd floor, a room in your basement, whatever, is a bad thing.

On one hand, if the 13% it does catch would've otherwise went unreported (which the article doesn't say one way or the other) it may still be worth it.

On the other, spending over $7 million a year on tech that is wrong almost 90% of the time seems like a waste of resources, no?

I say hypothetical because I saw it on Threads, and who knows if it's an actual story or made up for engagement.

But...

Woman was getting shit online because she owns her home that she's still paying off, has a few years left. Her and her husband still work. Daughter is still in college, lives at home when school is out.

Woman's mother dies, she inherits her mom's (fully paid off) house.

Woman is now renting the Mother's house to a friend of the daughter's and her boyfriend. Neither are in school and are both working. She is charging them just enough to cover the bills and taxes on the house. Making no profit. She doesn't want to sell the house because she wants her daughter to "buy" the house from her (at way below market) once she's done with school and is ready to be living on her own.

Woman was getting KILLED online for being greedy for not putting the house on the market and letting someone that's ready to buy a house NOW buy it.

Today's comics have just updated their topics, whereas old comics are still telling the same jokes they told 40-50 years ago and expecting a young audience to find humor in it.

But I also got treated with a lot of confidence and responsibilities at an early age. That used to be common medium, has been going away from what I see. Not entirely, but definitely enough to cause social problems.
My Dad was very much like this as well. I don't remember a single time he ever yelled at my sister or me, but he had a way of talking to us where I know when he was being serious and when he was being lenient.

And he was also the kind of person that silently led by example. He was respectful and friendly to everyone he met, to the point where his nickname was "The Mayor" because his friends used to joke that only politicians are this nice to everyone.

Like, there has to be a spot in between yelling at your kid to the point where they fear you, and having a kid that is a complete terror and you just say "we like to let him express himself in a way he feels comfortable"

Regardless of the argument about strictness, it's still gender essentialist bullshit to make this specifically about dads not being strict enough.

I think it was more just a general observation about modern parents as a whole not being as strict in their discipline as they were in the past. The focus was Dads becasue it was Father's Day weekend.

Anyone with eyes can see that children aren't disciplined like they were even 10 years ago (and I'm not even talking physical), forget about 30, 40, 50 years ago, and parents aren't nearly as strict as they were in the past.

Now whether it's a matter of parents rejecting THEIR parent's way, causing a generation of "pushover parents" or it being a "new" way of parenting where there's open communication between parents and their children, well that's a discussion that will have different conclusions based on how each individual parents their children, as everyone thinks they way THEY parent is the right way.

Probably. Would be no different than when my High School tried to ban kids from bringing their Walkman into school (yes, I'm that old).

We all just kept them in our backpacks and took them out when we were on the bus or out in the quad.

I understand why they would want to take away the distraction, and this would vary by school based on the behavior of the students, but I know in my kids school most of the classrooms have a spot where kids are supposed to put their phones as they walk into the classroom.

Most kids adhere to the rule, some don't, but I don't think it's become a huge issue in their school.
